Even public schools attract players that want to play for a winning program and want exposure. Just cause they public don’t mean they not getting kids from out of their district or zone. Every top school in the country does it.
Kids go schools they are best and most popular. City schools can’t even put together a varsity football team. Crenshaw as an example. Had excellent sports teams throughout the 70s to early 2000s . The students want to go private CIF schools and public schools. It happens in cycles. School voucher programs and charter schools have public schools in decline.

I think whoever wins the trench battle will win when they play BG, 2 years ago MD wore them down in the 2nd half just kept pounding the run. Will be interesting 2 see what the new coaches gameplan is

Centennial of Corona is one of the best public schools in the nation for the last 20 years! Of course, you wouldn’t know it because they play so many of the best catholic schools. They should stop scheduling to play private schools. They should play all of the big public schools like Mission Viejo, Long Beach Poly. All private schools should just play all private schools the entire season…preseason, league, playoffs and state championship. Just let the public schools play each other. Btw, MD does not just recruit and pick the best players to play for them from their area, their alumni send back their kids to attend school there as well even though they live out of state. They have the largest out of state student body because their alumni are so loyal. These are not just local players. No catholic school should ever lose to a public school. Normally, all catholic schools go undefeated during preseason and then to lose once league starts. I know there are times that public schools will win here and there but they cannot sustain it.

Cen10 could compete if not win the state championship in any given year in many of the other states outside of Florida and Texas. They just happen to face two of the greatest teams in the last 10 years in Mater Dei and St John Bosco who have won multiple National Championships. Prior to that they competed with De La Salle for state bragging rights, who were also previous National Champions. So to lose to the top dog in the nation isn't exactly "pretending" anything.

There is way too much to do in the Bay Area, San Diego or LA/Orange County area. In the Central Valley, you tend to have more of the small towns where the whole town shuts down early on Friday to prep for the game, but most people can care less about the local team unless they have kids playing, cheering or some other connection to the school post high school.
MATER DEI shouldn't play against anybody that's not on par as far as recruiting. They should put all the schools that just recruit and aren't homegrown in 1 national league something like a college or travel club team and play a schedule like that. Or else none of the kids from the area have a true chance.
Like a MONTVERDE ACA. or OAK HILL ACA. or those basketball teams OTE Just play against each other every week. Build your bodies and go to college, because playing against rosters that aren't as stacked is really demoralizing and isn't good for HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS.

De La Salle has been beatable over the past 20 years. Bosco is a recent phenomenon since 2012 or so. The CIF moves slowly, and MD has the most influence of any school in California (even more than De LA Salle). MD could slip eventually if Lara can't keep the recruiting going.
