Inculing the position of the license plate, radio blanking plate, rubber pull handle door buffers, dual voice coil speaker, grill badge and bumper overriders. It also describes how many MG logos can be found on the car and shows the original BMC AM radio that is original to the car. Also shows the original ELAC speaker that is also original to the car.
Description of Iris Blue original paint colour and instrument panel paint colour. Also a desription on the correct way to close the bonnet.
Video includes images of the engine, boot, bonnet, interior, steering wheel, headlights, taillights, emblems, badges, stereo, speakers, chrome, steel wheels, hubcaps, guages and windscreen. Vintage and classic British roadster.

My first MGB in 1977 was a 1963 Iris Blue roadster, it looked stunning in the blue on chrome wires. I learnt very quickly buyer beware - it was a rot box, but it drove well! I'm about to take purchase of a 67 Sandy Beige GT I owned in the 80s - I've not seen for 36 years.

Hello from another MG-loving Roger! I enjoyed reading your MG history. Primrose Yellow was one of my favourite colours for the MGB, along with good old BRG. I hope you're enjoying your C . . . I really liked the chunkier look of it but I only kept my CGT for a little over six months. My BGT V8 was a wonderful car and, as they all say, I wish I'd never sold it. Now living in Vancouver, I'm tempted to get myself another B . . . it's just a shame there aren't any V8s over here!

Nice little MGB you've got there. Enjoy that sucker, that's what you've got it for !
In my 30 years of restoring British cars, I've restored around a hundred MGBs. They each fit a little wonky here and there (referring to your rear bumper over-rider). I'd be willing to bet that if you loosen the bolt and give it a little twist, it'll line up okay for you. Also, the early cars are supposed to have the slightly larger rubber under the door handle. I like your simple solution to make it more appealing to YOUR eye. You're the one who looks at it, so make it what YOU want.
It appears that your car is also an early production 63, judging by the chrome trim around the gauge binnacle. I like that little touch. Keep your eyes out for a "wavy" grill badge - that's only found on the early production cars as well, and not readily reproduced. There are a bunch of things that are unique to the first couple years of MGB production, like the little filler panels under the taillights at the bumper. Your car should have (slightly larger) painted steel ones, not bright alloy ones. Unfortunately not reproduced either. A polished windshield frame with no visors ... so many things that make the early cars really cool. Embrace the oddness, LoL !
One more quick thing - don't bother pumping the gas pedal when starting the car. It does nothing. The carbs don't have accelerator pumps. You could pump it a thousand times and it won't help. Pull the choke, turn the key and it'll either go or it won't.
Drive that cool car, spread the word
    Cheers !

    • @mgbsandotherstuff2982
      @mgbsandotherstuff2982  Год назад

Thanks Thomas. I had no idea about the gas pedal pumping. My plan is to keep it running and driving well, that is why I bought it. If I come across original bits I may replace them but I don’t obsess about the originality of it too much. I tried to adjust the over-rider but it just doesn’t want to seat quite right, I wondered if it may be a modified front one that was drilled out to accept the light fixture. At any rate I really do enjoy driving it and fiddling around with stuff, it is my second one and I simply love driving around the countryside and the most important part is that it is reliable. Thanks for the comment, I’m always learning from you folks.

Great video and a beautiful car . . . and I really like the mods you've made to it. Back in the early '70s, I owned a '62 B in this great colour but it had wire wheels which I think make the car look a lot better. A founder member of the MGOC in the UK in '74, I subsequently owned 3 BGTs, a CGT (a very disappointing car) and finally a BGT V8 . . . a truly amazing car which I kept for three plus years before getting into Porsche 911s. Another fly spec out of the pepper...
According to all the literature I have the 1962 Model was produced May of 1962 to the end of Dec 1962.
Only in the following years of production did MG change to the first model year which would begin in the previous years such as the 1964 began in Aug of 1963, 1965 began in Oct of 64, 1966 10 of 65, 1967 11 of 66 and so on.
Some of the literature varies but this particular information was from Moss motors.

I have seen that chart of dates at Moss. I get a littel confused with Model years and build dates. Do you suppose that the Model year of this car should be a 62 since the Moss chart shows that first car # in 63 was 4169 and this car is # 2147. Maybe it was registered as a 63 based on the current system of model years vs. build dates. Interesting, maybe I will get the "Heritage Certificate" as you suggest. One thing that annoys me a bit is that the previous owner had a helper who decided to put "British Leyland" badges on the wings. I am going to touch on this in my next video.

Excellent video. Very nice B. The sheen on the paint is as close as I have seen to original.
I am curious about the "model" year of your car. The 63 production started in October of 1962.
I sold my 1964 (March 64 production) Iris Blue MGB 2 years ago. It was sold new in April of 1965 so registered as a 1965, which it is not as the 65 model year began in Oct of 1965 and had a 5 main motor.
I missed the 64 so much I bought a 1963 MGB (red) which I am now in process of undoing what the previous owner had inflicted upon it. I prefer the Iris Blue but this car was red as new so it will stay that way.
Nerd point.. The little shiny metal bits by the corners below and to the side of the trunk/boot lid
next to and inboard of the tail-lights were painted in 62 and 63. In 64 they changed to bare metal.
Do you have the original "riveted" vane grill? My 64 had one and I just found one for my 63, needs
    a bit of restoration.
I notice you moved the coil to the inner fender from the original position on the bracket below the Generator.
I did as well, but to install an alternator, Lucas of course.
I like your painted dash. Mine is also painted, done by the previous owner. I was going to go back to the wrinkle finish, but like you, I have begin to like it.
Your list of You Tube sites is exactly my list minus "endfloat", I'll check it out.

Thanks Jeff. I wasn't sure about the colour when I first saw it but I have grown to really like it. I'm kind of an understated guy and the car garners a lot of attention, so much so that I get a little embarrassed about it. On the other hand I really like to share it and RUclips has given me that opportunity. I have to give all the credit to the previous owner and I feel a real responsibility to take care of the car that he had put so much time and effort into.
I am pretty sure that the car would have been built in 62 and sold as a 63. The car # is 2147 so I think that would have put it in October/November of 62. The previous owner always called it a 1962 and 1/2. I was specifically looking for an early MGB but really prefer the 5 bearing main with an overdrive so I was happy to find this car.
I would really live to get an original riveted grill, rather than the stamped one and will keep looking.

Hi Luke, I will work on that for you. Thanks for the comment. My first MGB was a 1980 and had a very nice stereo that was stolen by ripping it out of the console. Very disappointing, it happened to be in a lockup where a garage was re-wiring the car. I made a deal with them that if they supplied the parts needed to rebuild the front end I would call it even as I was able to sort of fix the plastic console. I always was told never to lock the doors when the soft top was up becouse a theif could cut through the hood to get to the stereo.
