  • The requirement for motor vehicle inspections is being reviewed in Nova Scotia. The current rule means drivers have to get their cars looked at every two years. But extending that time period, or getting rid of the MVI requirement altogether, is getting mixed reviews. Preston Mulligan reports.

MVIs are a total waste of time and money. Well done NDP for raising this - long overdue. Currently even tiny utility trailers have to be tested. Why?

The inspection is a case grab for too many unethical repair shops, and getting an appointment at an ethical shop can take weeks in many parts of the province. I had necessary maintenance done on my car less than 6 months before my inspection, and still had to pay extra for an inspection just a few months later

Roads arent fit for cars, yet the cars have to be fit for the roads.
Im fine with mvi’s but buying a car to pay taxes on it to register it needs to go.

HaHa vehicle safety what a joke. It’s all about $$$$ for the NS Government, they should worry about fixing the roads instead of this money grab. Today’s vehicle’s should not have to be inspected every two years.

At the root of the problem is our commodified survival...and we've built communities to require motor vehicle transport. There are infinite ways of approaching this problem, one way could be to create a simulator/video game for kids and adults to create solutions from a place where they feel safe and loved, getting paid a living wage to ensure a basic standard of living, all while achieving self actualization in the process. We could develop better life saving technologies sooner, control the weather sooner...it would be like a short cut up the Kardashev Scale.
