Prepping is so much more than what people think. It's for more than just emergencies. It's for feeling accomplished and satisfied knowing that you have put up your own grocery store in your own home. Getting deals, saving money, storing and a variety for your different tastes. I know a woman who only cans stewed tomatoes, nothing else. Ok, if that's what she and her family loves. But, she doesn't believe in storing back food otherwise. Everyone has their own ways/tastes. Great vlog Katie.

We just had 14 inches of snow, then below zero temps for a week. I'm so glad I "prepped" for situations like that. Thank you for pointing out it doesn't have to be an apocalypse or anything so drastic to make it a good idea to prep.

You weren't weak, you were wise to take your neighbor up on that great egg buy. My parents went thru the depression, mother said she would put rice in water, the bugs would rise to the top and she would scoop off, then rinse the rice and cook it. Food was so scarce and nothing was wasted, glad I never had to do this lol. Blessings.
Very well said. After a divorce there was a period of time where i had no money for food. I bought a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter and that's what i ate for months. I couldn't afford, tea or coffee so i drank hot water and when things got a little easier i was able to start a stockpile and i call it my grocery store. We had two weeks of -40 weather and i needed nothing from the stores. Coffee on the shelves and coffee cream in the deep freeze. I was set and very glad i had my preps.
That must have been very difficult for you. I know it was really hard on my mother to make ends meet and care for 7 kids after her divorce. Sometimes the lessons we learn are tough but in the end we grow stronger. 🌻🌻🌻

Thanks Katie for explaining why we prep even though you shouldn’t of had to. It irks me when some comment that preppers are hoarders or expecting an apocalypse. I know exactly why I prep and it’s a comfort knowing we have supplies put away. What’s happening in the USA is just mind boggling and I can’t understand how we got here or why it was even allowed to escalate to this point. It’s so disheartening to know we haven’t even reached the peak of this madness yet. I feel it’s going to get worse, unfortunately.

Congratulations on reaching 33K subscribers!!! The weather that your area just experienced is exactly why people should be stocked up and prepared. We had frozen roads last week. Right before it hit, I heard several people say "I'd better go get stuff to last two or three days since we won't be able to go anywhere." I just looked at my husband and we were both thinking how insane!!!!! I went to the grocery store and grabbed four gallons of milk and that was it. I cannot imagine living like so many people do by going to the store daily or never having a stocked pantry. We have always liked to be prepared but the pandemic certainly made us step things up. Food security is just as important as financial security. The tips you share about properly storing dry goods is very important as well. Have a great day Katie. And you look especially beautiful today.
We lost power here in the ice storm for 7 days. Thankfully we were prepared and it wasn’t to hard on us but looking at it as good practice. Our down fall was having enough fuel for the generator for that many days and having things like flashlights in a central location so your not searching for it when you need it.
Those are excellent takeaways! I need to get some fuel for our generator and organize flashlights etc. we have a few battery powered safety lights and a battery power bank as well we keep charged. So many things to consider but the basics we must stay on top of😅
That is such a GREAT idea to not refill jars making you use other items to keep a nice rotation! I think I will do that too, I am doing the Pantry challenge and filming the progress on m y channel as well. I definitely going through February and probably be doing through March.
I might extend as well- our potential Costco haul is weather dependent because it’s 2 hours away over a mountain pass😅 We are still pretty well stocked 3 weeks in. I’ll check out your channel!! 🌻🌻🌻
Keepin' it real, Katie. This is but only a moment in time, and I am definitely appreciating your thriftiness and foresight into knowing what you need to have for your family. You got this, lady :) What kind of sugar you use should not be anyone's business, if they watch you on the regular, they should understand and know and definitely not say anything to you about it. If you have a chance, check out RoseRed Homestead, recently Pam has done a multi video class of how to use powdered milk storage for making every day items like sourcream, cheese, etc.. It was really informative. I love Pam's teaching methods.
I live RoseRed Homestead!! I actually used her videos as inspiration for some of my pantry videos last year. I need to go back to her channel- so much knowledge there!! 🌻🌻🌻
While watching your video, it reminded me that I should check my grains that I stored for possible bug infestation. I don’t think I froze everything in the beginning because I didn’t have freezer space. I need to vacuum seal a lot of my grains and put oxygen absorbers in them. I remember putting Bay leaves in them so hopefully they will be OK Katie I always enjoy your videos.😀
After finding bugs in my rice last month- I’m sure to check though everything this pantry challenge. 😅 I thought I froze it all but one bag I must have thought I’d use it up sooner. 🌻🌻🌻
You sound like you are doing a little better. This video was full of very helpful information. Wishing you and your family well Katie xx cheers from Australia girlfriend 🇦🇺
Having a stocked pantry is so useful. I grew up in poverty and we always ran out of food. When I’m able to afford it I want to stock up on food. I want to get some things in 5kg & 10kg bags. It’s a shame canning isn’t popular here in England, I would love to do it but can’t find equipment.
I lived in the UK- we had those jars with the glass lids and separate seals- I got a few from a local hardware store. But you are right- not much canning going on with the metal lids there. I believe I bought American canning supplies on the US military base in the craft store. You can also repurpose jars and lids that previously held contents. The seals need to be malleable- not dry or cracked. Many folks re use store bought recycled jars and lids with success. But- there are strict regulations here and it’s not advised to do so. The Amish and Mennonites re use jars and lids without issue- as I have too.then you can water bath can anything with the right amount of time- the Amish even water bath can meat but it takes 3 hours in a waterbath canner😅
Just FYI, "oriental" refers to items such as a rug or vase. Asian is the correct term for a person. This is a good video showing a reminder about critters in our dry goods and to make sure to deal with any potential loses.
I just found your channel and its so refreshing to listen to you be so honest about what is going on with your family I also prep and I learned a lot from your videos thank you 🇬🇧😊
Thank you for watching Valerie!! We all have struggles and are navigating difficulties in life. My middle name is Hope- I want to share hope here. No matter the obstacles we can rise above and overcome 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
My grandparents grew up during the Depression, so my grandfather would stock pile items, which drove us mad! We understood why he did it, but it wasn't entirely logical. If there were a handful of guests coming over and any of them were having tea, he'd need to go to the shops and get another 2L - 3L bottle, despite there being a near-full one in the fridge and us telling him that people only put a splash of milk in, which would barely make a dent in the milk bottle. Of course, if he saw me now and how much milk I have (frothed) with my coffee, he'd be freaking out and buying 9L+ per week, if not per day! (Probably a little bit of an exaggeration, but you get the gist.) 😂 COVID has really changed things, though, and now, having gone through a food shortage, I understand him a lot better. If I had enough room, I'd be stocking up and creating a long-term pantry, despite living a 2-minute drive from the local shopping centre with three supermarkets inside! I have very limited storage, and the bedrooms are already spoken for, so I'm unable to really do that. As you said, it's not fear of an apocalypse, but not being able to access food at the supermarket due to unforeseen circumstances - an injury, the car being out of commission, public transport being down, there's another shortage at the store...
I know folks in tiny apartments storing food under beds and in linen closets. In RUclips there are a bunch of prepping channels with amazing storage ideas. I use a linen closet to store buckets of grains. But I haven’t resorted to storing food in the beds😅 thanks for watching!!🌻🌻🌻
I'd be interested to see what kinds of foods you prep for a winter storm. When we have severe storms knock out our power, I feel like we get sick of the food fast and feel yucky because we have things like home baked fruit breads and then pantry things like peanut butter, crackers, pretzels, and depending on what part of the month, apples. I never know what better things to prepare that will be good if the power goes out.
We have canned meats and stews so reheating those on the camp stove works well. We also have freeze dried meals prepped like chili and soups. Plus canned fruits and soups etc. we also have a generator so if I wanted to bake bread with the bread machine we can turn that on for a few hours. Thankfully we haven’t run out of power this year. I may have to do a few days of “power outage meals” that’s a great idea!! Thanks for watching 🌻🌻🌻
You got that right girl the pandemic made us all reflect on how we shop and store food most of us shopped for food to made it through a week and nothing for a later date me included now I have a good supply of stored products for the unexpected that could come around it's nice to not have to worry about the next meal and just keep faith that any situation is in God's hands Katie where do you purchase your glass jars or are they from empty food jars
@@RowesRising thanks Katie for sharing your adventures in life prayers for you and Arron for healing love the pantry challenge and all you who share their experiences and how to make life a little easier with storage freeze meals and shopping tips has been very helpful over these 5+ years
I think those of us with chronic illness become "preppers" out of necessity, if we weren't already stocking up. We never know when a flare up could knock us down. We are a single income family with 4 teens still at home. Preparing for emergency times is necessary.
Agreed! I'm a disabled stay at home mom and my husband has the only income. I lost my preps this last summer when we moved from California to South Carolina, but between my mom and my sister in law they definitely appreciated reaping the benefit, sister has 5 kids and lost her job, and my mom lost her father in law and her husband lost his job shortly before we moved. It was so rewarding blessing them , but I'm slowly trying to rebuild a small stock pile! It is honestly is a major stress to not have one, and my kids are learning the hard way now of why I kept at least 2 months' worth of dry or canned goods before! Living with a small shopping trip only twice a month and having to seriously budget every purchase is truly teaching my 11 year old a life lesson. Also, I make her help build the shopping list, work the budget, check prices, and keep track of the calculator at the store, now. The impulse buying still is strong in her, and it's a hard habit to break! 😂
@antoinettemarie-stautertri4010 we are looking in SC as well to move from Oregon. The beauty out here is awesome but our family is on the east coast so we want to be closer. I hope to use up a bunch of this glass jarred food so we can pack the empty jars and move later this year. 🌻🌻🌻

@antoinettemarie-stautertri4010 we lived in Sumter near Columbia when Aaron was stationed there. We have been looking at properties all over from the coast to the hills. Who knows- I say we may even stay here but we are both ready for change.
Hey Katie, Congratulations on your subscribers, you always do an amazing job, you are a very hard worker and keep the videos coming 😉love your channel❤
Hey, you ever tried making rice crispies with your rice? I had 2 video's this weeks showing how to make them. So yes, I'm going to try that and I'm all done buying peanut butter and just making it with peanuts and some sort of oil. Still wish i could magically morph y'all here to boil sap with us this year. Everyone is getting ready because we are having a warm spell this week after a good hard freeze. Sap will be running so much. Eeeks, so excited because we are down to 1.5 gallons. I love all this making or baking from scratch, even IF i never get to leave the kitchen. 😂😂😂
@@RowesRising This family is addicted to peanut butter. My one son wants a PB&J everyday for lunch and the only thing that's store bought is the PB. It's the last tub we have from when i stocked up 2 yrs ago. I absolutely hate running out of stuff, so that's why we keep things stocked up. Nothing like wanting to cook or bake something and I don't have what i need. Plus we did it because we knew the prices were going to skyrocket. Seriously though, when YAHUAH created this earth, He provided everything we need, we just need to look for it, that's why we have books upon books about foraging where in the area we live in. I wish the whole world was blessed with sugar maple tree's. Boiling is so much fun, especially when you have a bunch of people collecting the sap, standing around bullshitting for hours on end while it is boiling down. It's a lot of work and very time consuming, but boiling sap on a flat pan with wood makes the most delicious syrup ever. What y'all get in stores doesn't even compare to wood burning sap. You ever make it to PA, I'll take you around to all the sugar shannies. They also make a whole bunch of goodies out of maple syrup.
I prep cause I work part-time and my husband is retired and a seasonal worker. So from Mid December to Mid March that extra income is no longer available. I work from March to September to stock our freezer and pantry so during that time of low income, we have food to eat.
This sounds similar to our situation. My husbands new career is seasonal where we live now. I can’t work outside the home case I have to care for him and the homeschooled kids. I’m so thankful I started this channel in hopes to bridge the financial gap for our family and this channel is decent part time pay. It’s helped us so much!! Thank you for being here. Store your dry goods in a container with a large opening so you can just SCOOP them out instead of POURING them out into a measuring cup. I see many young women "pouring" flour out of a canning jar into a measuring cup ... flour going everywhere.
Idk where you are with the government on his benefits. My hub waited for over 2 years for his benefits to come through... he wrote our state rep, and we had a check in exactly one week. Just a thought.
Thank you for sharing. That’s a long wait. He’s retired Air Force. We just found out yesterday- they lost his electronic files and it was resubmitted after a looong phone call so it’s another 30 days- that’s for CRSC. 😅They have the wrong phone number on their website- it’s like they don’t want to help veterans. 🌻🌻🌻
When i heard the storm was coming I didn't go to the store, i got busy with laundry, dishes and tidied up the house. I didn't want the power going and feeling behind.
No judgement about using sugar. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the pantry challenge about using up what you have? That’s exactly what you’re doing! Hang in there!!
Thank you!! Yes the pantry challenge is about using what you have. Many other channels did huge grocery hauls prior but we didn’t. We are using up what we had. We haven’t grocery shopped big in a long time. Money is tight! 🌻🌻🌻
Thank you for the video! Can you please share where the knife block on your counter is from? I don’t see it listed in your storefront, and I’m searching for a long narrow one.
That’s good info!! We just stayed at an air bnb over summer that had a fig tree. They won’t grow here but they will grow at lower elevations in milder weather.
Hey Katie. Your doing a great job!! I’m curious what you think. I want to make that hot chocolate, I don’t have powdered milk but I do have powdered heavy cream. I’m sure it would work but wondering if I should cut the amount or just use it like powdered milk? What would you do? I love how the Lord provided you guys 1/2 price eggs and $1000 to restock!! God is watching out for you guys.
Ohhh I would leave it for a rich treat but maybe take a 1/4 of the measurement away. I believe God is looking out. A few good folks sent us grocery gift cards to Fred Meyers and Walmart too so we have truly been blessed and it has lessened some of the financial stress. We have only been paying for absolute necessities. We are still struggling but without the generous gifts we would be in a much sadder state. We are so blessed and grateful for all the love from you and everyone here. 🌻🌻🌻🌻
No I haven’t because we got rid of our chickens 2 years ago. You have to have perfectly clean fresh eggs with the bloom intact on the shell. So it’s not feasible for me to do with eggs I get from another source. I have a freeze dryer so that works best for me to long term store eggs in powder form.

@@RowesRising Love it!! Have an awesome day :)
Hello Kazacks!! We take it one day at a time. I try to use the days I feel good to make these videos. Thank you for being here!!!🌻🌻🌻🌻
Having a stocked pantry is so useful.
Thank you🌻🌻- I was fumbling my words not sure what was proper. 😅
Thanks for all the inspo!
New here! Thanks for showing how you restock! I look forward to more videos!
Thanks for sharing!
(Probably a little bit of an exaggeration, but you get the gist.) 😂
COVID has really changed things, though, and now, having gone through a food shortage, I understand him a lot better.
@@RowesRising That's awesome! Very creative!
@@RowesRisingYes, a preparation video showing how-to make meals without power. And another video on making nutritious meals in jars.
@justpatty7328 I have lots of canning videos in a playlist.
Thank you for a great video! Prepping is important and I enjoyed watching and getting ideas. Take care and I look forward to the next video!
Thank you for watching Kathy!! 🌻🌻🌻
I purchase my glass jars from azure standard Cheryl. Thanks for watching!!🌻🌻🌻
@@RowesRising thanks Katie for sharing your adventures in life prayers for you and Arron for healing love the pantry challenge and all you who share their experiences and how to make life a little easier with storage freeze meals and shopping tips has been very helpful over these 5+ years
Thank you ❤ you are amazing wife and a mother ! God bless you pretty lady
Thank you for being here Sonia. You are very kind. 🌻🌻🌻
I think those of us with chronic illness become "preppers" out of necessity, if we weren't already stocking up. We never know when a flare up could knock us down. We are a single income family with 4 teens still at home. Preparing for emergency times is necessary.
We sure do!! Between our bad backs and autoimmune issues it’s just best to stay close to home as much as possible🌻🌻🌻
@RowesRising SC is a beautiful state as well! I'm in Summerville, close to North Charleston, and there are so many family-friendly adventures for all ages here! And the people are fantastic
@antoinettemarie-stautertri4010 we lived in Sumter near Columbia when Aaron was stationed there. We have been looking at properties all over from the coast to the hills. Who knows- I say we may even stay here but we are both ready for change.
Preach it, Katie!
Hi Kitty!!! 🌻🌻🌻🌻
I do it to eat seasonally, use the harvest & to eat the things I like. If not available do to crop failure, I have back up. .
That’s smart! Thanks for watching🌻
I found you because of the three rivers hashtag. I’m enjoying your videos
Hello Veronica! Thank you for being here and watching🌻🌻🌻🌻
Congrats on 33,000!
Thank you!! 🌻🌻🌻
Hey Katie, I have some catching up to do. This challenge is a lot easier than the #50dollarfebruary2024. You look great and congrats!
Hey Katie, Congratulations on your subscribers, you always do an amazing job, you are a very hard worker and keep the videos coming 😉love your channel❤
Thank you Jan!! 🌻🌻🌻
I’m done buying rancid peanut butter too😅 And no I haven’t tried rice crispies- I’m curious though!! I wish we had maple trees!!
It’s folks like you helping keep my family afloat with your views🥰🌻🌻🌻
We stayed home too. It’s so nice to not feel like we HAVE to leave our home for supplies😅🌻🌻🌻
Am I planning for an apocalypse? No, but if they show up I can feed them!
I hope I always have plenty for extra folks too. 🥰
My friend made it for her art store 15 years ago…so you won’t find it. 😅
So good organizing ideas. Thank you!
Thanks for watching Karen🌻🌻🌻
My entire family always had "extras". They were Mennonites and Brethrens so, for them< it was what was normal and expected.
Hi Katie I can't find your baked chicken liver recipe can you share again. I think you said that your husband eats it and its good. Thanks
Hi first time watching, I try to keep some supplies I buy foods when they are on sale ..
Thank you for watching!! 🌻🌻🌻
Fig tree cuttings keeps bugs out of dried goods better than bayleafs.
That’s good info!! We just stayed at an air bnb over summer that had a fig tree. They won’t grow here but they will grow at lower elevations in milder weather.
We are stocked for at least 3 years. Use, rotate and restock.
I’m so glad we did too🌻🌻🌻
Love your channel
Thank you!! 🌻🌻🌻
Enjoyed today. I'm on fixed income but enjoy the new ideas.
Thank you for watching and commenting Helen 🌻🌻🌻
@@RowesRising I’m glad to hear people are reaching out in that way. ❤️
I’ll make some of your hot cocoa this afternoon. Thanks for the help.
You are doing a great job.
Thank you Jessica🥰🌻🌻🌻
Congratulations 😘
☺️ thank you Judy!
Have you water glassed eggs?
No I haven’t because we got rid of our chickens 2 years ago. You have to have perfectly clean fresh eggs with the bloom intact on the shell. So it’s not feasible for me to do with eggs I get from another source. I have a freeze dryer so that works best for me to long term store eggs in powder form.
Imo if I don't survive at least someone's going to eat good.❤
We can bless other in our absence- love it Regina!! 🌻🌻🌻
❤
Hey sweetie could you please give your hot chocolate recipe thanks ❤❤
It’s in the video description. I just shared it last week. 🌻🌻🌻
