Shoofly pie is an Amish/Mennonite recipe and it is called "shoofly" because Amish woman bake it for church meals, which are commonly eaten outdoors. The molasses attracts flies and other bugs, so the food is often covered with screened boxes. Now ya know!
All I can remember from this video is Jinger, taking the pie out of the oven acting like it was steaming, hot, but then proceeded to touch the pie pan once she set it on the counter. The magic of editing!
This time sweetened condensed milk is part of the recipe. However there was the time she tasted the Tater tot hotdish that she added sweetened condensed to and had an odd expression on her face, but didn’t let on her mistake. This is an add for coffee. The music is distracting. They don’t appear to be experienced cooks.
Everytime I see Jinger I have a taste for coffee. I still remember when she worked at a coffee house for some kind of event/cause. She was drinking all the coffee. Thank you for a fun video.
Not a coffee person; but i love watching your videos. Only suggestion i would have is to show your recipes at the end with all the ingredients and measurements. Blessings!
Jinger, It is So Amazing to see you doing a cooking show!! I love it and am So HAPPY FOR YOU ❤️ If I could give a word of advice, I would say to post the recipes with measurements and cooking times... the shoofly pie you said to bake at 350 for 15 minutes and then turn temperature down for 30 minutes... However, you didn't say what degree's you turned it down to... We LOVE YOU JINGER!! AND CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE OF YOUR COOKING VLOGS🙏♥️🙏♥️
That ice cream looks so good! I haven't made a shoofly pie in a long time. Seeing this brought back memories of baking for my family, especially when Jeremy couldn't wait to get into it!
I was born and raised in Maryland. It was not unusual for us to drive into Pennsylvania. My first experience with Shoo Fly pie was at a restaurant called Plain 'n' Fancy. I live in Maine now so there's little chance that I'll ever eat at Plain 'n' Fancy again. I'm delited to have seen your video and to know that this delightful pie is so easy to make. I can't wait to try it!! THANKS
You did amazing and I can't wait to try these recipes. Thank you for sharing this our family loves coffee. In fact my youngest my daughter has been working in the coffee field for little over a year. She's a supervisor now of a coffee place and it's so fun because I get free coffee grounds. I get to try different flavors so now I can make goodies out of it. I hope you're having a fantastic day
Soooo cool and looks so delicious! I can’t wait to try both recipes!! I am so excited that you are producing this series! You and Anne are both such a joy to listen to/watch and appear to be naturals at making viewers feel like they have a place around your kitchen table. So excited to watch more!!
I don't drink coffee my self but I enjoy watching you on here and miss the show when you were on tellavision God you and your family are may God always watch over you all and all your families love you always love 💕 Linda
I like your cooking videos!! How about sharing Grandma Vuolo's spaghetti sauce recipe? Also, do you have any crock pot or insta pot recipes you like? I'm always looking for something new to make!
Was I the only one who freaked out when she took the pie out of the oven, with oven mitts, but then proceeded to take them off instantly, and touch the pie plate directly with her hands? I literally said OH NO! Thinking the pie plate was hot and she was going to totally burn her hands LOL 😅
It’s called shoo fly pie , because it’s sweet sticky. And when they would put the pie on the window sill to cool, they would have to shoo the flys away 😊
Interesting ice cream making recipe. I’ll have to try it. I grew up in PA and went to the Dutch Country and never had Shoe Fly Pie. But I don’t really like pie so I probably never noticed it on a menu or table. Lol.
My husband is from Pennsylvania. I love the ice cream recipe I guess we can do with other flavors as well? I love coffee And my new favorite flavor is Praline Pecan
I might want to try this icecream recipe at home I am sweetooth I love icecream and I love my coffee too as well just like you so what’s better than putting your favorite things together .
🤤 it’s spring now in Australia 🇦🇺 and that means soon it will be summer and too hot for coffee (although I still try 😂). Coffee Ice-cream;… I love affogato, so I know I’ll love this;.. no more sweating in summer for my coffee.
Did you both know latte means milk in Italian? If you ask for a latte in Italy they will give you a glass of milk. It's called caffe latte which means milk coffee 🇮🇹
Hello from Amish Country! When your family came and stayed, the whole town was talking about it! You were only five minutes from my house, but I never did get to meet y’all 😩
Ha Ha a little tv theatrics taking the hot pie out the oven with two mittens then immediately using your hand without a mitt to place the pie on the counter and then . . . immediately cutting the pie. Great job. Great 'cooking' live.
Shoo fly pie is called that because as the pie would cool out in the open or on window sill, this was before screens on windows, the baker would say, shoo, fly, get away from the pie…..
According to historian William Woys Weaver, shoofly pie started as a crustless molasses cake or Centennial Cake. It was baked in 1876 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Shoofly pie was a variation of the treacle tart.
I’m sure this won’t be read, but when she’s pouring the coffee grounds into the other container, isn’t there a paper filter they were in? At least it looked like it. If so, May I suggest taking that out and kind of making a pour spout in the paper, thus not making a mess. But it’s easy to clean up. 🤷♀️🤷♀️
I love your "Cooking with Jinger" programs. The recipes are fun and you are a natural. Jeremy makes great comic relief too.

And it is delicious! So good with ice cream, coffee, or a glass of milk.
great info!! thank you♥️
Sounds great

Yes! She took off the pot holders and immediately grabbed the pie tin. It cracked me up.
You saw that too!! 😂 also she touched her hair way too much !!!!
This time sweetened condensed milk is part of the recipe.

I said the same thing then I read your post afterwards. I hope the oven had actually cooled and it was a filming “glitch “ just for looks.
First thing I thought too was someone one missed that. Pie was cool or she could not have placed it in her hand
I figured she didn't want us to wait until the pie was cool. I've seen this done in a lot of cooking videos. I expect this! :)
Wonderful episode, thanks , omygoodness Jeremy cracks me up. Love it.❤
It’s called shoo fly pie , because it’s sweet sticky. And when they would put the pie on the window sill to cool, they would have to shoo the flys away 😊
I hope now that you have written your book you can do more recipes on this channel.❤
This is why you put your hair up when you're working with food.
Interesting ice cream making recipe. I’ll have to try it. I grew up in PA and went to the Dutch Country and never had Shoe Fly Pie. But I don’t really like pie so I probably never noticed it on a menu or table. Lol.
I love all the Starbucks coffee cups in the cupboard lol it looks like ours, thanks to my wife ❤️

Did you both know latte means milk in Italian? If you ask for a latte in Italy they will give you a glass of milk. It's called caffe latte which means milk coffee 🇮🇹
Ah interesting! So that's why they call it a Cafe latte at my local Italian owned coffee shop
Can you please let me know where you got the cold brew container from?
Shoofly pie is also quite popular in the Mennonite community near us in London, Ontario 🇨🇦
I loved the star bucks mugs behind you!! How did you store them? Mine are starting to take over the cabinet.
How can you tell they are from Starbucks??
Love your cooking videos.❤
Jeremy 😅 Love him!
Hello from Amish Country! When your family came and stayed, the whole town was talking about it! You were only five minutes from my house, but I never did get to meet y’all 😩
This is very similar to the French Canadian Sugar pie but we make it with Maple Syrup of course. ;)
Delicious
Shoo fly pie is delicious
Oh my gosh I want some ☕️ coffee!!!! Can you buy hers? 😅
Ha Ha a little tv theatrics taking the hot pie out the oven with two mittens then immediately using your hand without a mitt to place the pie on the counter and then . . . immediately cutting the pie. Great job. Great 'cooking' live.
Hi Jinger, I'm knew to your channel and just wanted to say , I'm loving the cooking videos , your doing a great job ☺
Oooops * new to your channel
Thanks Ronda! :-)
I love Shoefly pie, but don’t have the recipe. Please give measurements along with a recipe. Thanks!
It's in the description box :)
Shoo fly pie is called that because as the pie would cool out in the open or on window sill, this was before screens on windows, the baker would say, shoo, fly, get away from the pie…..
Your videos have been great lately 👌
Shoe fly pie.. I would think it got it’s name because it is so good that flies swarm it.
Jinger, I remember you loving coffee for many years, as I love coffee as well. ❤
A little Carmel sauce and sea salt would be good addition:
According to historian William Woys Weaver, shoofly pie started as a crustless molasses cake or Centennial Cake. It was baked in 1876 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Shoofly pie was a variation of the treacle tart.
Why did my mind automatically go to “Encino Man” when I read “Shoofly pie” 🤣
So when the ladies made these pies, they would set them out to cool, and the flies would find them tempting....Shoo Fly!!
❤
I'm from Pa, and have never heard of shoe fly pie being a thing here. I have never had it!
What part of pa? I’m over by Lancaster and it’s rampant!
@@alliesteph6274 Yes! It's a Lancaster area thing!!
WHAT???? I'm guessing your in western PA maybe? It's the most common thing in my neck of the woods.
@@janet6763 I’m from Harrisburg area and I know what it is.
I'm from western PA and I know what shoefly pie is...very popular in eastern PA, Lancaster area, an Amish recipe, it is good try it!
Very nice! One suggestion for future videos, your top is the same color as your cabinets and makes you sort of fade out.
Its because you have to shoo the flys from it!
I imagine it's named Shoofly Pie because they had to shoo away all the flies as it cooled 😉
Soooo… the pie was already cooled when she took it out of the oven??
👍
I thought Jinger's Matchbox coffee blend would have ginger. 🤔
Funny husband talking pie
