I don't think it's good to write as if all Japanese people dislike it.
I think that the “Im healthier than you think” part means that she’s telling them she’s mentally healthy or theres nothing wrong with her mind, like she got told that she’s unstable or something.
I think so too. In Japan, mental illness still isn't really seen as various conditions and is often interpreted as insanity all across the board, meaning depression and anxiety is sometimes lumped together with psychopathy and schizophrenia, which are also just not well-understood and are widely feared. The "I'm healthier than you think" within that context, to me, sounds like someone suggested she might be psychotic just because she had a moment of weakness from the pressure.

Yess and honestly most elderly people said this to me and I think to most young people this generation since now people tend to not open up and stay quiet almost all the time my relatives literally thought and said I’m mentally unstable that’s why I don’t speak or say anything or open up ;-;
Apart from this, I think she is annoyed of the older generation for defining/lecturing about what is good and what is bad for the younger generation, and limiting the younger generation from some experiences just because they think it is bad/unhealthy (e.g., playing video games, going out with friends/partying)
Coming from a person with the stereotypical asian parents, this hits too close to home with how easy they think kids are to be 'controlled' and if they cant then the kids aint 'normal' to them

the song, quite literally is saying: “i’m not gonna live the way you want me to, i dislike how i’m forced to live how other wants. I’m healthy (people would say that you must be sick to say that), i will live my life my way. You don’t understand it? I dont get that the singer feels like shes "special" at all, shes frusterated and lamenting her feelings under HEAVY layers of sarcasm. The whole point (as I took it) of the song was that she was fed up with being the typical "good girl" and striving hard only to achieve so little and live a meaningless life

A messed up setup might make a person grow with a messed up perspective aswell, If the song is going for her to express her rage against that setup I think that would be a really interesting point that the author made her be a "bad person" (on a general perspective, like, swearing and saying egocentric lines on it), makes it feel more impactfull, like a "look what that did to me" thing. It still open to interpretation anyways, and that's also nice
(edit just to add, I'm aware of that last part, but since It's by the end it doesn't change the impression from that rest of the music so it still gets a very cool impact)

It's hard for artists like Ado and Reol who sing songs with rebellious lyrics to break into the mainstream. But I'm so proud of them for finding success as solo artists outside of just the vocaloid scene.

Ado made her major debut with the Useewa song with the record label, Universal Music... I'd say she's always been mainstream, at least from 2020 onward. She's now singing for the new One Piece anime movie.

I'm a huge fan of Reol, man. Her and Giga make such fantastic music, and so many of them are _wholesome_ in their rebelliousness.
This song is a great example of how Japan doesn't get sarcasm. Like, at all. The lyrics are sarcastic, as in someone throwing back what was told to them. "They called me a genius and a good kid, so why am i so sad and tired now" is the impression i get from the lyrics.
Ado is Japanese tho lol many Japanese youtubers use sarcasm too so maybe you're talking about unintelligent population of Japan.
Most Japanese adults don't seem to get sarcasm. I'm in my 50's and when I use sarcasm my 35 and up friends they can't handle it. However, the younger one's often get it.

Lol yes, I'm asian (not japanese) it's mostly just older people. My boss and parents doesn't get sarcasm either and will look at you with judging eyes if you respond in a slightly sarcastic manner or take it a bit literally sometimes

I’m Japanese and I love this song. My mom does too. The lyrics are talking about society and how stressful it is for working class people.
The only people who’d complain about this song is parents (cuz their kids keep telling them to shut up or something) or the upper business people who’s causing problems/stresses to their employees.

I absolutely love this song. In a way it addressess the biggest problem I see in Japan. Even though I love Japan, the idea of people hiding their inner self and everyone trying to stay mediocre and trying to 'not stand out' just sounds heartbreaking.
We in the west are suffering from exactly the opposite. Everyone needs to stand out eventhough we don’t want to.
So it‘s not about standing out or not, but about other people’s expectations in us.
but japan is one of a top/best country in the world in some aspect. and they must did something right, something fundamentally different from other country and they succeeded.

Tbh i didn't understood the song by 100% and i'm gonna try to explain why. I know, that japanese society is really strict in a lots of aspects. According to that, people is always under pressure of society, school, parents, which is always telling you to be that "succesful" and "right" person, who always need to follow the rules and social standarts, which you've never had a chance to change. The system works that way, and because of that, people have no choise but to follow the rules. As the time goes, a human slowly turns into the robot, who can only do what is "right". The saddest thing is that a very low amount of people can actually understand what they need to do in that case, so they're literally dying from overwork or commiting suicide. The thing i did not understood of that song is who one is blamed - the people, who always acting as robots and doing all what society told them to do, or a system, which have made people to behave that way, or maybe both? I would appreciate what kind of thoughts you have about it.
@@user-up4gm6bf1b I think she's talking about the society. Because if you see, society creats the system. It's the long-running traditions and practices that led the rise of the over-working culture. It's not as if suddenly some rich people decided that they'll overwork their employees to death. If you see, people who do not fit in with crowd well, are always looked down upon in Japan, usually by the elders and people in power.
I think she's trying to resonate the feelings of the people going through what she's saying in the song. Because you see this song can't really do much, except make people feel that they're not alone, thinking this way.

I feel like this song is a lot like the western "ok boomer" sense, but from a younger Japanese person's viewpoint. It might seem kinda cringey, but I think it's because the coming generation is feeling unfairly treated by older generations.

I prefer to think that this song is a satirical illustration of people like the protagonist in the song who only criticize but don't do anything to change the status quo or don't reflect on themselves, even though that may not be what is actually implied, which is what I meant by deep.

Hmm this reminds me of Rock, Punk, and Alternative music in the US where the young kids were rebelling and the parents just didn’t understand it. The rigid and sometime oppressive work/social structure drives younger kids crazy so they rebel and say “screw you” to the older generation through songs.
But the older generation just doesn’t understand and misinterprets the frustration of the system as being childish, lazy, or arrogant (which sometimes it is)

Yuta really missed the mark this time. Music is NOT morals. There's countless 'rant' songs with absurd, not necessarily morally 'right' songs that are enjoyed light heartedly. There's a lot of satire songs enjoyed for just the rhythm.

The history of the song is completely different than how you viewed them. Ado talked about the reason why she sang the song and it makes sense. Songs are emotions and experience put into words. People need to stop taking things like it's bad immediately.

I love this song. I feel like the youth of Japan is finally starting to stand up to this oppressive air that Japan has with working and being a model student and just generally all-around perfect person. It's so satisfying when Japanese people speak their mind without being concerned about what others around them might say or judge them.
Reality is not a form of "oppression", it just is. Japan can't print trillions and trillions of special dollar currency paired to petroleum and nations reserves without going into recession again. The only thing the U.S subsidies is their defense as the EU. Japan also can't receive billions from Brussels like Greece, Italy or Spain. You actually need to work or study there. Japan is hurting still from the ridiculous never ending "stimulus" started 1997. They tried copying America's cheese and Brussels when that's something that can't possibly work with the yen (plus demographics and pensions).

I think Yuta slightly missed the mark on this one. Like other people, I definitely get the "gifted kid" vibe from this song. Someone who was considered "bright" or a "genius" for their age eventually goes on to live a completely normal adult life. I think Ado expresses really well the frustration young people experience when they realize this letdown.
I mean, imagine hearing for 15 years that you're special, gifted, a genius... and suddenly finding out that you're totally average as an adult. It's pretty crushing. Take a look at these lyrics:
"Before I knew it, I was already grown up"
"I'm not having enough fun, something is missing - this better be somebody's fault"
"I'm fed up with those rehashed parodies" (this one is a little unclear, i think it refers to the same thing as two lines below)
"I'm your 'so called' genius." (As others have pointed out, this is sarcasm)
"How many times do I have to listen to those memories?"
This person clearly KNOWS they aren't exemplary anymore. It's still part of who they are, but they're angry that someone 'lied' to them that they were special. And this happens to kids EVERYWHERE all the time now.

exactly, I like Yuta, but it seems that the toxic psychology of Japan kinda is even in him, since he didn't understand the reason behind the song. She isn't singing about being better than their bosses and older people, she sings about disliking the way most people live, and that's absolutely acceptable and normal. the social norm almost everywhere just has its mistakes, and that is what she is singing about, she is singing about the mistakes and how if you don't want to do them you are not ill but you are actually healthier than their corrupted mind. idk why Yuta interpreted this thing as something literally totally different, like he is talking about oranges but the song is about apples.
The "I'm your so-called genius" line makes me feel like it's less her thinking of herself as a genius (as you said, 8th grader syndrome) and it's more about mental burnout.
Especially since she specifically says "your so-called genius", instead of something like "a so-called genius".
I don't know how to explain it properly, but I'm not thinking of this song as her being overconfident, but rather like: "I'm not special, I just _did my job!_ If other people also did their job, I'd be seen as normal. I wouldn't have gotten all this pressure on me and could just live the calm life that I want to live!"
At least, that's my take on it. A girl who's tired of being seen as special when she's not doing anything special. Not that she doubts herself either, just "I'm just doing my job, leave me alone..."

I don't think it has anything to do with chuunibyou, just the frustration of a newly-graduated student becoming a normal adult (especially since Ado, the singer, is only 19). It could be she thinks other people are mediocre because they can't see they're only causing pain (rather than making her a successful person or "genius"), or something among those lines.
Ado used to be an utaite, someone who covers vocaloid songs, and while those people really are notorious for never leaving their room and/or not having real life friends, doesn't "healthy" usually mean young? In a sense that people shouldn't pressure her because she's too young to meet all expectations. It's what I always thought.

I have my own opinion. Usually being a pushover (me being one) always heard this line "you're good, you're better than this. you're really good, a genius" whatever and the work always fall to me because I'm good at it, but i dont see myself as a genius, or even them. They only saying that to justify their action to give loads of work on me. I think it's more like about how other people would constantly tell you how your hobby, what you eat or what you do are unhealthy.

I would always be told by the people around me that i'm smart etc. (When i was a kid obviously) But when it comes to actually considering my opinions they go with the typical: they are right because they are the adults. Another thing to keep in mind is that the world is designed for average people. Those with exceptional abilities often have to hide themselves to fit in, especially in societies with tall-poppy syndrome, and when they do express themselves, they can often be viewed as weird or egotistical by people who are unable to understand.
So, just because someone doesn't get good grades or is young, don't write them off as untalented. In some cases they maybe capable of far more than anyone around them, if they are given a chance.

I think Japanese people lacks way to express their negative emotions. Japanese people have very few curse words, which some may say it's a good thing, but I do not think so. Naturally human needs a way to express (extreme) emotions, and curses may be the less violent ways to do so.

While it is true that people who hate this song are most likely Karen-like people, I think you are not putting into consideration the how the young people in Japan perceive this song. I would not expect teenagers or even young adults to understand the satirical tone (which is unclear), not to consider that the Japanese are known for not understanding satire. Yuta, my point of view on the meaning of these words is not that the main character actually believes to be superior or a genius of any sort, but in fact internalized people's desire to see her and treat her as such by telling her to grow as a "good kid" and as an obedient employee. Naturally anybody who sees a person who grew up as a good kid, works as a good and obedient employee and lives their life, essentially almost like a robot, performing the exact same boring tasks every day would either internalize that and live in a loop that they just can't break due to social pressure or absolutely snap and tell everyone around them to shut up and express their views and feelings about those frustrations.

@@kota8.19 well some of these Japanese singers are like Ado in a way since some of them are utaites too and their songs are in a sense similar to Ado's songs, message ( suicide,not conforming to society, social taboos, etc.) and styles. I just found Ado's song interesting since I listen to and like artists like her.
