You can't help but feel sorry for Monica. She was manipulated by the most powerful man in the world, and someone who merely pretended to be her friend. Poor Paula, too, she didn't deserve what she got.
This is an example of why you ALWAYS have an attorney before talking to anyone in law enforcement. They lie and manipulate. The scene in the hotel room is gut wrenching. She was only 24 and terrified. It’s appalling what the Starr team did to Lewinsky. She was depraved of her basic rights.
John Goodman regretted doing that by the way. He was interviewed by James Lipton a few years later. He was sorry he played Linda Tripp because of how it was portrayed.
When this first hit every news cycle, I blamed Monica. But honestly over the years I better understand how she was charmed by an older man, manipulated by a so-called friend who had an agenda and used by Starr. Monica was the only one without an agenda, but took the most disrespect. I wish her well deserved peace. 🕊️

A stranger would never betray you because a stranger knows nothing about you. It's always the “best friends”. This is a lesson for everyone. Don’t give people the power to hurt you.
I watched it, twice. I found it very interesting and was totally absorbed in what went on behind the scenes. I thought the acting was excellent especially Paula Jones and linda Tripp. They did a great acting job and I thought the whole series was done very well.
I honestly think that Linda trip wanted revenge because the president would never look at her at the type of woman that she was that wasn't his type and here you have a young girl so excited bragging about her relationship with the president so I think she wanted to bring the president down because she was jealous of the relationship Monica had with him
People being mysoginistic towards Linda Tripp just makes me wanna stan her fr You just call her jealous or insult her about her physique instead of her character
Annaleigh Ashford blew me away as Paula Jones in episode 9. It blows how these women were treated by the press and the world. I can't imagine how it must have felt to have the world against her. Thank God Monica was able to make something out of all that madness...Linda Tripp was rubbish!!
I usually don’t watch this type of show but I really like it. There were so many details I never knew about. And Johna Hill’s little sister really shined bright as Monica. Also, Sahara Paulson nails Linda Tripp. Both the story telling and the acting is outstanding.
@@Ken9284 I believe this person was referring to the aftermath; even Monica acknowledges that she isn't proud of her part in the affair. She was taken advantage of by the media, and the internet (I'd encourage you to watch her TED talk). At the end of it all, Bill Clinton got away with a slap on the wrist, and got to move on. Monica became defined to the world by the affair, and was the first person to be attacked by an internet mob. She's brave, because now she's fought back and advocates against cyberbullying. It takes a lot of guts to do that when the world is happy to laugh at you/see you fall.
What I always forgot was that she was only 22 at the time. She consistently volunteered to take part of the blame. She never made herself out to be the victim. Not ever. All she ever said was: I am not the ONLY one who messed up, yet I am the one being metaphorically burned at the stake.
I’ll admit while watching the show I couldn’t believe how someone could fall in love with the president and think that something could become of it. Unfortunately, she’s still shamed till this day when it was him who should’ve never approached her or the other victims.
right and they said why she’s still talking abt it like ??? dawg she is reminded abt it every single day, i would get that bag if the media did me wrong for years
You're right. He shouldn't have approached Monica, or any of the other women. Monica was enthralled and it was consensual, but there is a higher standard for those in power, especially a president. They know better and should do better professionally and even more so morally
May as well be called the demonisation of Linda Tripp. Without any reference to other women he exploited. I think Linda became a punchline played by John Goodman. She deflected hat* to Linda Tripp then and is still doing so. Linda of course didn’t like Bill & Hilary Clinton ever.
@@theresakeith5854 so you admit that you have a low standard for ML? Lots of president had affairs and nobody cares, why everyone still pay attention on ML?
Everything seems spot on but!! I will NEVER believe that Hillary was so blind sighted as show in the show. She had her own "team" /staff and none of them didn't know. Hillary is not that stupid
She knew who she married and I think she chose to turn a blind eye. However, an affair of her husband's exposed to the entire world, that was something she didn't care about. On the show, she's also pissed not just because of the affair but because he lied to her about it, despite the fact that she had given him an opportunity to confess. "Is there anything else I should know about this?"
Me too. I'm glad someone else isn't demonizing her and instead can empathize with where she was in life. Everyone is dumb at 22. And she had no power while he had it all.
I can relate so much to Monica, but on a smaller level. In college, I was an unpaid intern at a radio station, and the DJ sexually harassed me, emotionally abused me, and constantly talked about him buying me a boob job and be my new daddy (since mine had passed). I went to college about it, and they basically said “well… we can make sure he gets no interns from our college anymore, and no girls, but we can’t really help you in any legal way because you were an UNPAID intern.” Apparently that’s the thing unless you’re in the spotlight like this.
Watching it just made me feel so very bad for Monica. I know having an affair with a married man is wrong but what Linda Tripp did was just as wrong if not more wrong. She was a kid who got caught up in somthing she had no clue how to navigate.
I am watching Impeachment but I don’t remember much of what happened: I just had second hand information from my parents and grandparents back then. I wasn’t much younger than Monica - I was in junior high/high school at the time.
@@wintersantiago2274 Monica has obviously had a lot of work done. I would too after all the mocking of her looks. The public perception of her looks was very negative at the time, which I think the movie is showing to the audience. The worlds perception of her during the scandal.

Barbara Walters was really in her corner. As a journalist, Walters knew what Monica was going through. Walters isn't in good health these days..bless her ❤️ heart.

Paula was the original Rose McGowan….Me2 This demonstrates that the world is changing. People made a joke of what happened to her and also to Monica but both were victims… the question is of Whom? Not only the man in question but the world, themselves and many more….
I like the series very much thus far. I would like to have seen Monica settling in, and at the same time been introduced to where the Clinton administration was, and what was going on in the joyless life of one Linda Tripp, who I find easily the most fascinating character in this series. Tripp had already tried to sell her secrets, and it’s devastating to watch her ‘reread the signs’ for Monica, for what was 💯 a usurious relationship. I empathise with Monica Lewinsky, who I believe would’ve been a devoted Wife and Mother. Her loss was beyond measure, whilst Ms. Clinton refuses to utter her name. wth is that ? 😳 ps: the year that ML gave her ‘Ted Talk, I understood that nobody in New York City would offer Lewinsky a job. Famous film, ‘All About Eve’, wherein Eve was ‘paid-to-get-out-of-town’, circa the 1930’s.
The parts on the show where Monica says no one will ever marry her right before the 💩 hit the fan & then after it did when she says she just has to get through this & in 10yrs when she’s busy with marriage work & kids & all this will be in the past was what was helping her get through it I was so sad for her & just kept saying “Poor Baby” over & over. I’m glad she did get through it & even if her life doesn’t look now like the way she imagined it would then that she’s still happy & leading a full life. What she was put through then No one should be put through the public shame & scrutiny she had to endure & @ such a young age was unjust. If she wasn’t strong & didn’t have the support of her family things could’ve turned out very differently & then all those ppl that contributed would have had blood on their hands.
Sarah Paulson who was also in Mrs. America. I didn't recognise her at first because of the wig, facial expressions and stoop of Linda Tripp. The latter was full of rage because she was side lined in favour of someone who had the right connections as her husband was a party donor.
I was only 12 when this came out and even i heard about this case from my little country of New Zealand. I always knew something was fishy with Hilary. What self respecting woman would keep a man who humiliated her in such a public way? i knew she was staying with him not because of love but for some other reason so when she ran for president; the penny dropped
@@msrainbowbrite I don't know the customs in New Zealand but in American culture it was EXTREMELY common for women who grew up in Hillary's generation to stay with husbands who have been unfaithful. They also had a daughter and many couples will stay together for the happiness of their children as well. But let's instead go with the theory that they remained married so that Hillary could be President.
It really pisses me off how that ENTIRE situation played out. I'm really glad that new shows are bringing this to light and letting people know that this story would have ended soooo much differently if it happened today. Monica was a very young adult, and at the end of the day, the president of the United States yielded a lot more power than she did. He should have gotten in far more trouble and his whole "I've payed for my crimes" speech is so gross
You do know that this was not the her first affair with a married man that ended up in the news right? She was sleeping around with her teacher from high school and she was his babysitter. The ex wife was interviewed recently but it went on the news back then too..
I think in Canada we dont want to know about this kind of thing. Its personal and they have to sort it out internally But it is useful to learn how to avoid these situations. It is useful for women to learn about their own responsibility for honey traps and boundry setting.
I always thought Monica was beautiful when this happened and especially now. She has shown so much grace and maturity through this unusual situation. The actress that was chosen to portray Monica definitely fell short on all accounts.
I’ve seen the show I loved it if any scene is dramatized where Monica is it’s because it felt or it was exactly like that because Monica Lewinsky herself was in the set and she told everyone how everything was or seemed the way she spoke or how people spoke
If my son brought home Monica and said he wanted to marry her, I would be very happy and welcome her with open arms - beautiful, highly intelligent, highly educated woman with a kind heart, genuine and charismatic... Her past is irrelevant, not like she's done something horrible. The very common things that happen everywhere: young girl gets involved with her superior and regrets the mistake after. I would stand up for her like she was my daughter, if anyone had something negative to say about her.
‘The View’ discussed Monica Lewinsky, and decided add to years of steadfast blaming and shaming. They decided that, had it not been for Monica Lewinsky’s behavior, Hillary Clinton would have been the President of the United States. As absurd as that assertion may (or may not) sound, I encourage everyone to watch the show on utube, Sept. 27th. The question that I pose to the women on the panel, and the viewers alike, is this, ‘When have (most) of these same women ever spoken in such a judgmental manner, so devoid of ambivalence, and with so steadfast an attitude of wholeheartedly indignant disrespect for the complicated personhood of ANY man? Be it Bill Clinton, Jeffrey Epstein, Harvey Weinstein, Tiger Woods, Anthony Weiner, Roman Polanski, Louis CK, Larry Nasser, Charlie Rose, Donald Trump, or Bill Cosby…?
They do. I may have watched a different episode of the View, but I recall it differently. Monica was not blamed for Hillary's failure, one panellist opined that Hillary got the bad end of the stick in this one. She was cheated on, embarrassed and labelled as either weak or manipulative for staying with her husband. Others spoke badly of Bill too. Monica was not vilified by them. She was given no agency at all and treated as a child. Edit: I've gone back to it and yes, they were harder on Bill and mentioned that if it wasn't for her husband (not Monica), maybe she would have been president. One of them (Megan?) even blamed Hillary.
@@subversivelysurreal3645 I don't know what to say - they clearly said that if it wasn't for HIM Hillary would have become president. They mentioned Monica maybe once? "Oh, she was a child!" (22 is young, but a child?). Maybe we watched different episodes.

I think the show has shown a side of Monica that most people probably didn't know. She seems very intelligent, she's funny and quirky, and also very naive. But she was very young when this happened, and I don't think people took that into account. Sara Paulson has done a magnificent job playing Linda Tripp. I know she's been vilified in this, and some of it may be well earned. But at the same time she's a woman that wants revenge for how she perceives her treatment in her career. Who hasn't wanted a little bit of workplace revenge in their lifetime? I know I have a few times. In spite of her actions, she's still a mother doing her best to raise her kids. She has some character flaws, but she's still just a person trying to make her way. I was just graduating high school when all of this happened, so I paid very little attention to it at the time. So while I easily recognized a lot of the characters by name, I really had no idea what their relationship was to each other in this fiasco. I've really enjoyed the show, and I have to confess that a lot is due in part because of Sara Paulson. I'm just a big fan and have been blown away by her portrayal of Linda Tripp. Clive Owen also makes a pretty convincing Bill Clinton. I haven't really seen Judith Light since who's the boss, so that's also been a pleasant surprise. Hell, everyone seems to be really well done.
It saddens me how horribly treated Monica was. She was definitely a pioneer in modern sexual harassment even though consensual such an extreme power dynamic between them.
Produced by Monica only brings a few questions to mind: 1. Why wait 23 years until Linda Tripp is dead and unavailable for response? 2. How did anyone know what happened when Hillary and Bill were alone? Especially in their bedroom? 3. Why is Hillary portrayed as not knowing about Monica and then making comments about "Bill's history"? 4. Why no mention of Hillary's "bimbo squad"? 5. How did Monica know what happened in Starr's offices, lawyers, politicians, Tripp's family home (again, all behind closed doors)? 6. How did Monica know every word Ann Coulter spoke in private? Finally, why is Hillary, the real enabler of Bill, not portrayed as the hands on manipulator that we all know she is? Take this series, with a grain of salt.
To your first question, the series was already greenlit and under way while Tripp was alive. Production got delayed due to Covid and Tripp died in the interim.
@@Raja1938 How convenient. Notice you left out how they consulted with Linda to verify her portrayal before she died. Monica comes out as a love struck, innocent girl. She knew what she wanted and went on her knees to get it. No one was innocent in this mess except the women no one believes.

Well said
Monica’s mistake was to discuss the affair with other people, but she did just fine because she is a strong individual.
Oh God, That’s completely untrue. She had an agenda, she wanted an older already established to leave his wife and daughter. Statements like this makes me wonder how many listen to the tapes for themselves.

Monica Lewinsky is a beautiful woman, inside and out. I am so happy she is getting her story out there, finally!

I honestly think that Linda trip wanted revenge because the president would never look at her at the type of woman that she was that wasn't his type and here you have a young girl so excited bragging about her relationship with the president so I think she wanted to bring the president down because she was jealous of the relationship Monica had with him
People being mysoginistic towards Linda Tripp just makes me wanna stan her fr

Annaleigh Ashford blew me away as Paula Jones in episode 9. It blows how these women were treated by the press and the world. I can't imagine how it must have felt to have the world against her. Thank God Monica was able to make something out of all that madness...Linda Tripp was rubbish!!

I usually don’t watch this type of show but I really like it. There were so many details I never knew about. And Johna Hill’s little sister really shined bright as Monica. Also, Sahara Paulson nails Linda Tripp. Both the story telling and the acting is outstanding.
She was amazing as Linda Trip. You almost don't even see the actress in the roll at all.
monica was taken advantage of by a cruel world and she fought back. What a brave person
Giving to a married man is brave isn’t it...
NO apologies ever...this is just the norm now...like Hillary and Benghazi .. like it never happened....

She wasn’t really ‘put through’ anything…she was an educated grown up with a big girl job and opportunity.. she blew it…oh, wait…

I can relate so much to Monica, but on a smaller level. In college, I was an unpaid intern at a radio station, and the DJ sexually harassed me, emotionally abused me, and constantly talked about him buying me a boob job and be my new daddy (since mine had passed).
I went to college about it, and they basically said “well… we can make sure he gets no interns from our college anymore, and no girls, but we can’t really help you in any legal way because you were an UNPAID intern.”
Apparently that’s the thing unless you’re in the spotlight like this.
That's horrible. I wish you had more advocates. I'm glad men are taught nowadays to take things more seriously
Watching it just made me feel so very bad for Monica. I know having an affair with a married man is wrong but what Linda Tripp did was just as wrong if not more wrong. She was a kid who got caught up in somthing she had no clue how to navigate.

I have so much respect for Monica and how she was able to contain such poise and nobility even when she was being relentlessly targeted by the media. I can’t wait to watch impeachment and the fact that she’s co producing it is going to make it even better.
I didn't know about this story beforehand. I'm only watching for Beanie Feldstein and George Salazar
Famous film, ‘All About Eve’, wherein Eve was ‘paid-to-get-out-of-town’, circa the 1930’s.
outstanding acting and portrayal
Acting was great, especially Linda Tripp.
But let's instead go with the theory that they remained married so that Hillary could be President.
It really pisses me off how that ENTIRE situation played out. I'm really glad that new shows are bringing this to light and letting people know that this story would have ended soooo much differently if it happened today.
This is crazy. I remember seeing the news when I was like 6 years old in Ethiopia, and now I’m here searching about it after almost 27 years later

I wondered all of this myself while watching. I always have tons of questions re: true stories & enjoy every detail.
