Going to tell you a true story. My father was in the record business He worked for Decca records and then on WEA Warner, Electra, Atlantic I lived with my Dad for a short period of time. One day in 1971, he brings home this album. Says, I want you to listen to this and tell me what you think. I was 20. He asked me how much to order, and all I could say is Dad, just order all of them. I swear to you this a true story. And Rod Stewart is still my #1 favorite singer of all time.
Music used to Grab me. Electrify me. Energize me. Pump me freakin' up. Not so much anymore. But this tune still does it for me. Beautiful, Amazing song.
One of the best albums ever.. in his prime Rod was on a different level saw him live once with the Faces now that was entertainment.. oh to be young again
Mickey Waller was the drummer on the studio version. If that's Jones in this video he did a simplified version of it as he did with Moon's drumming when he was with the Who. I'm curious how Zak Starkey would do on this being he does such a good job with the Who. The other note I'll make is the studio version featured Ron Wood picking the lead guitar more than strumming it. The drumming, guitar and Long John Baldry's added vocals made this a unique and beautiful song when it came out, albeit difficult to recreate live which is probably why Stewart sings it so rarely he needed a lyric sheet.
Saw him in 1972, Seattle Center Coliseum. Again in 1988. He hadn't lost a step. Played all the "new stuff" for an hour and a half, then asked if it would be okay to go get a quick shower and come back for some "maggie may." The place exploded and they played another hour - all the classic stuff. What a show.
Sir Roderick David Stewart CBE, always gives his best. Humble enough to admit his memory is not the best sometimes, but his talent never fails. I am among the many who feel that this is one of his best songs he has written (he has written so many - starting with Maggie May).
I listened to this album day in and day out in an art class in high school. I love these songs. The studio album is a gem. The guy who played the mandolin was perfection.
One of those songs that has been a guide post for my life. After almost 48 years I've encountered way too women who've spent my bread and wasted my time... still haven't found my Shanghai Lil yet, though.
I love you, Rod Stewart!! One my favorite songs!! Watching this brought a smile to my face and made my day. I felt like Meg Ryan, shouting, “YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!” ❤️
Lyrics: Spent some time feelin' inferior Standing in front of my mirror Combed my hair in a thousand ways But I came out looking just the same Daddy said, "Son, you better see the world I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to leave But remember one thing don't lose your head To a woman that'll spend your bread" So I got out, woo Paris was a place you could hide away If you felt you didn't fit in French police wouldn't give me no peace They claimed I was a nasty person Down along the Left Bank minding my own Was knocked down by a human stampede Got arrested for inciting a peaceful riot When all I wanted was a cup of tea I was accused, woo I moved on Down in Rome, I wasn't getting enough Of the things that keep a young man alive My body stunk but I kept my funk, woo At a time when I was right out of luck Getting desperate, indeed I was, yeah Looking like a tourist attraction Oh my dear, I better get out of here 'Fore the Vatican don't give no sanction I wasn't ready for that, no no I moved right out east, yeah, listen On the Peking ferry I was feeling merry Sailing on my way back here I fell in love with a slit-eyed lady By the light of an eastern moon Shangai Lil never used the pill She claimed that it just ain't natural She took me up on deck and bit my neck Oh people, I was glad I found her Oh yeah, I was glad I found her, woohoo Wait a minute I firmly believe that I didn't need anyone but me I sincerely thought I was so complete Look how wrong you can be The women I've known I wouldn't let tie my shoe They wouldn't give you the time of day But the slit-eyed lady knocked me off my feet God I was glad I found her And if they had the words I could tell to you To help you on the way down the road I couldn't quote you no Dickens, Shelley or Keats 'Cause it's all been said before Make the best out of the bad, just laugh it off, ha You didn't have to come here anyway So remember, every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it Every picture tells a story, don't it
This version was edited by Rod Stewart because of the lyric slit eyed lady referring to a women of Asian descent. That is why he had the lyrics on stage to know where to break. He did say it once. And if you noticed he jumped intl lyric Every Pic Tells a Story.
Wow, I can’t believe one of the all-time greatest voices in rock ‘n’ roll meets a cute card call a song he wrote? That kind of ruined it for me. I thought he was more professional. Oh well, I like the song anyway.
Georgia Satellites played it better live. These guys are amateurs compared to the Georgia Satellites and they do it right with a goddamned four-piece. Rod is a joke.

Ok
I grew up with his songs
“Every Picture Tells a Story” what a work. Not a false note.
Great drummer on this cut.
Wouldn't that be great if we could go back in time?😅
The Drumming on this , and more so on the studio is just insane
Kenny Jones? Ask Roger Daltry!

Tony Brock, has been one of my favorite drummers, since 1977 when he was with the Babys
@@mdteletom1288Tony Brock
We were so damn lucky for rod, the stones, and Hendrix, Joplin and doors, the list goes on.. Prince.. Ozzy.. who.. amazing!

so pure and organic... nothing forced . he’s a natural entertainer
Don't you just wish you could sing that song like Rodders.
His grovel is perfect for this. Just a great rock and roll song.
I'd rather sing it like Rick Richards. Rod is a joke.
your best song ever yet you treat asa a throwaway
Maggie Bell did background vocals on record. Miss her but Sir Rod must carry on!
Sir Roderick David Stewart CBE, always gives his best. Humble enough to admit his memory is not the best sometimes, but his talent never fails. I am among the many who feel that this is one of his best songs he has written (he has written so many - starting with Maggie May).
Mayor of Kingstown brought me back here 🎸🎸🎸
I listened to this album day in and day out in an art class in high school. I love these songs. The studio album is a gem. The guy who played the mandolin was perfection.
The guy that played mandolin was from the UK band lindisfarne
One of those songs that has been a guide post for my life. After almost 48 years I've encountered way too women who've spent my bread and wasted my time... still haven't found my Shanghai Lil yet, though.
It took me 50 years!
Oh man !!!
Have you ever been Shangjaied?
ARS
Way better than this imho.
I love you, Rod Stewart!! One my favorite songs!! Watching this brought a smile to my face and made my day. I felt like Meg Ryan, shouting, “YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!” ❤️
Rod Steward has a strange locomotion, but this song is fking Awesome!
The true king So soulful. Rest in peace Mickey Whaler the true time timekeeper blasing those drums so beautifully.
The best delivery of an artist is when they really feel it when they’re singing it. He does and he’s magical ❤
Lyrics:
Spent some time feelin' inferior
Standing in front of my mirror
Combed my hair in a thousand ways
But I came out looking just the same
Daddy said, "Son, you better see the world
I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to leave
But remember one thing don't lose your head
To a woman that'll spend your bread"
So I got out, woo
Paris was a place you could hide away
If you felt you didn't fit in
French police wouldn't give me no peace
They claimed I was a nasty person
Down along the Left Bank minding my own
Was knocked down by a human stampede
Got arrested for inciting a peaceful riot
When all I wanted was a cup of tea
I was accused, woo
I moved on
Down in Rome, I wasn't getting enough
Of the things that keep a young man alive
My body stunk but I kept my funk, woo
At a time when I was right out of luck
Getting desperate, indeed I was, yeah
Looking like a tourist attraction
Oh my dear, I better get out of here
'Fore the Vatican don't give no sanction
I wasn't ready for that, no no
I moved right out east, yeah, listen
On the Peking ferry I was feeling merry
Sailing on my way back here
I fell in love with a slit-eyed lady
By the light of an eastern moon
Shangai Lil never used the pill
She claimed that it just ain't natural
She took me up on deck and bit my neck
Oh people, I was glad I found her
Oh yeah, I was glad I found her, woohoo
Wait a minute
I firmly believe that I didn't need anyone but me
I sincerely thought I was so complete
Look how wrong you can be
The women I've known I wouldn't let tie my shoe
They wouldn't give you the time of day
But the slit-eyed lady knocked me off my feet
God I was glad I found her
And if they had the words I could tell to you
To help you on the way down the road
I couldn't quote you no Dickens, Shelley or Keats
'Cause it's all been said before
Make the best out of the bad, just laugh it off, ha
You didn't have to come here anyway
So remember, every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo
Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo
Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo
Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo
Every picture tells a story, don't it, woo
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it
Every picture tells a story, don't it

Ridiculous p.c. pandering. Let's take away from authenticity so as not to offend authoritarian liberals.

Not woke

You have no credibility with such a embarrassing statement, you should keep that to yourself
i’m with tony! for starters it was rod’s song and the vocalist is no where near him and it’s too clean in sound man? no way!!!
lol I hear deliverance in the background while you were typing.
Really? I gotta check it out
