    I had a WR400 '86. Was always hard to start until we blueprinted the position of the coils and magneto. Once they were correctly set up it usually started very easily. Pre-exhaust powervalve engine but still had a great broad powerband. Nice bike to ride, one of my favourites.

    I had the 85 version of this bike. Sounds like that inner kicker gear was problematic. Ultimately mine finally grabbed that loose tooth and brought it to the top. The last kick I gave her was a loud pop. Inner case came apart at the top. All she wrote. Wish me luck on winning that cherry honda cr500r. Maybe my luck will change. Braaap

    I remember when ken was saying he was sponsored by husky and they kept breaking. So he gave them back and bought a CR500. Of course the husky is broke.

    I have that bike, it might be '85 I forget but it's the monoshock version like that. But it's roached and missing a few couple parts. Still it's in my collection. I only paid $20.00 for it.

    These Huskies just look right. The problem with all the Husky 500 CR & WR was the ignition system had a fixed advance. So no retardation in the curve for easy starting basic simple ignition. Today you can get much better replacement ignitions which retard low revs to aid starting and reduces a chance of kickback which damages the crankcases. These motors are beasts! I have even seen them snap kickstart shafts. You have to be a big man to ride these hard

      Yup. Looks like an 85, they had that black radiator shroud. Wish it was white like the rest of the plastics.

      @andretorben9995 Год назад

      In '86 they went to a water cooled engine. My friend had the '85 WR500 and I had the '86 WR400. Also in '86 you got the disk brake front end and the mono shock rear. Also pretty major cosmetic changes with the seat, tank shape etc. Not sure if we were a year later in Australia ??? Many people used to say "you dont need that sort of power" and they were right but they were bloody good fun.

    Always feel how a lot of these bikes are so collector quality if not museum and collection pieces they'd be great converted to road legals, for less wear, switch the sprockets and tyres, low running costs and rocket about in Evo style...

    I usto have 1 i was about 18 no way a mx rider. But it got abused daily. Up and down the beach. It would bury the back wheel upto the swingarm on acceleration. Wheelie in 3rd like i wasnt on it. And i was sat on the tank. The only bike i never had a problem with apart from spark plug. . Only lasted a few week. A month at most.

    How can you paint a plastic gas tank? Won't it just off gas through the plastic and bubble, seen this on other tanks before.

    • @andretorben9995
      @andretorben9995 Год назад

      The problem with those tanks is the fuel used to permeate through the plastic over time, this turned them yellow and made all the factory decals fall off. It was impossible to stop it happening. I agree with you, I think the paint will just start to peel after a short time.
