    The explanation when you were going up the steps at Bleak Falls sums it up. What people who have never experienced VR don't understand is that being in the game in VR is literally being in the game. It's not an impression of one, like they think its a 3d TV strapped in front of your face. It's being there as if it were real, like you actually see things in the real world with your own two eyes. Give me the sense of scale and the actual depth perception over pin sharp textures. There's zero comparison to the effect it has on you. Sharper visuals will come, but for now, even the most basic visuals in VR are compelling and incredible, but like the Matrix, you have to see it for yourself.

      bmx7596 agree vr is different in irl the only way to communicate how good it is, is to make these videos vr and to wear a vr headset while being able to move
      So its impossible to communicate how AWESOME vr is

    I've always been a gameplay over graphics kind of person. I think Ocarina of Time is more fun than Call of Duty "X", I like 8 bit megaman more than Megaman X, I like Resident Evil 2 (vanilla) more than Resident Evil 7. And I like Skyrim VR more than Special Edition. Vanilla skyrim to me is boring :/ the attack animations look really stiff and repetitive. I get that combat was not the focus of any Elder Scrolls game, this isn't DmC or anything. But I got 20 hours into Skyrim PS3 and S.E. before getting bored. VR has brought the game to life for me. With the moves, I can form my own attack patterns. Even if it gets wonky from time to time, dual wielding swords and swinging like I'm afro Samurai is SO much more fun than pushing R2 and doing the same looking attack over. And over. And over. From combat animation alone, Skyrim VR wins. Not only that though, but the sense of scale and presence in VR... To look at a dead dragon,I have to pan my head from the left of my living room almost all the way to the right. Dragons are so high they wouldn't even fit in my living room so to see them this big IN FRONT OF MY FACE... you really forget where you are. Other perks of VR; turning a new weapon around in your hand with the moves to fully appreciate its design; groping NPC's with your hands for a laugh; speaking all the dialogue for added immersion which can be done in vanilla but feels more real when you're in the world; using your actual hand to grab in game items and search through chests and shelves.
    VR adds such a different experience to a typical game that I can't wait to see what the future will hold. I've been waiting for experiences like this since I picked up my first video game. I don't even care about NEW experiences for VR though I wouldn't complain either; the potential for old favorites to jump to VR is the most exciting thing for me. I would LOVE to play a VR version of Half Life 2. VR Metroid Prime. VR Bioshock. VR Outlast. There are so many good games that exist currently that would be so much better in VR. Just imagine it-- RE2 Remake, in first person VR. The possibilities are endless. VR RIGHT NOW is a little lacking in stand out titles. But I can only hope developers put more effort into it and risk potential profit losses to bring us more AAA, VR games. I don't think VR can replace TV gaming. I dont want it to, either. I want a place for both to exist, and flourish, independently

    Good discussion points and interesting to get your perspective on this; naturally the VR version doesn't stand up to the remastered version on a flat screen but as you tried to convey VR adds a sense of scale and depth that is not possible to appreciate out of VR. Personally I was never interested in Skyrim before the VR version, it's the level of immersion into the games world and the epic sense of being in a massive fantasy adventure that makes Skyrim VR an essential purchase for the PSVR, so very interesting to hear the opinion of someone who has played the normal versions of Skyrim as well.

    I love that intense feel of VR games.
    I basically play GT sport also only in VR demo version. Even though there’s no real races or anything but regular gaming on screen feels like not enough for me.

    Great vid, I'm just wondering if the VR skyrim also comes with the DLC that the special edition has, like the Dragonborn one and whatever the other is called, and secondly, can you swap gsmesaves between the two versions?
    Imagine if one day you fancied playing it in VR and the next you fancied continuing in enhanced graphics instead

    I was concerned about the lower graphical settings hurting the experience, man was I wrong, it actually looks quite good for VR on a console. The level of immersion makes it feel like you're experiencing it all for the first time in a way, if you're a big Skyrim fan, this is a must own.

      I'm a first time Skyrim player and jumped right into the VR version as the normal/remastered versions heald absolutely no appeal for me (and still holds no appeal for me), it's the immersion into a fantasy world of this scale that VR makes possible and that Skyrim VR makes full use of that has made it appealing as a game. So a little of a different opinion on this subject.
      P.S. Jumping off the throat of the world was awesome in VR, I can see how it could make some people nervous, but then I use to jump off cliffs (20-30 metre high) into the sea to wake up in the morning, so I just loved it =D

    Great video as always Oscar, would have loved to seen the Switch version chucked in for good measure! I have some questions if you don't mind...
    I'm presuming you have to buy the VR version on top of the remastered one? That seems a bit rubbish from Bethesda. A free upgrade or at very least a very cheap DLC option would have been what I would have expected. I also presume both are running on your PS4 Pro? Cause the graphics of the VR version look pretty poor considering, especially if it's a separate purchase. I also don't like the way you see the PS move controllers in game, they don't really fit! However without experiencing the game with the actual VR headset, I can see how passionate you are about it and it does seem like it could be a lot of fun. Though what about long play sessions? Does it get tiresome with the headset and waving your arms around a lot?
    Just read this back and it seems like I'm being really negative! Hope it doesn't come across that way, just curious and wanna know more!

    • @HandZ_gaming
      @HandZ_gaming 7 лет назад

      Oscar Cooper woah that is very expensive for just the VR experience. I think not having the option to play it standard then use VR when I wanted would out me off. Say you're playing for an hour, but then just wanna go back to your TV and controller, I would like the option to change back. Ah well, at least it looks like a proper game for vr

    • @fearmonkey
      @fearmonkey 6 лет назад

      Bethesda bought a studio that does VR to handle doing Skyrim and help with Doom VFR and future VR titles. We are paying that extra cash to help cover that. I for one don't mind handing cash over to Bethesda. We need VR games like this, Bethesda makes the best First person open world RPG's, and any encouragement I can give them to keep doing it works for me. I hope other studios and publishers will look into porting older games as well. There a ton of PS3/Xbox 360 games that would be amazing in VR. I would also love to see Bethesda bring Oblivion to VR, and Zenimax bring Wolfenstein, Doom and Doom 2 Classic, and The Elder Scrolls Online to VR. I would pay for those.

    Being a vr owner I can say it's as simple as this... The graphics, pretty shit. Easy to say the Skyrim vr and any vr game really are all pretty rubbish. But, the sense of immersion overpowers this. Although the graphics look unrealistic, when you actually play you forget about the graphics and everything feels real.

      To be able to render crystal-clear graphics in VR requires a super powerful device, maybe in the near future, but as for now, you gotta accept the quality of today's games.... And btw, there are a lot of VR games that have way much better graphics in VR than Skyrim like RE7 or similar house exploration games (basically cuz they're not open world)

    This is very very very very very very simple and I will simplify this even more for the common console Fannie that knows a tenth of a shit about technology no offense
    Virtual reality assets and abilities are a massive MASSIVE resource hog this resource is your system video ram and memory as Well they downscaled the visual detail for the mere fact that half the graphics detail is going toward the ability to look over your shoulder without physically moving its a massive strain even on the beefiest of computers vr is a resource hog but at least you got some what super sampled visuals in 1080p its not the previous *engine* as you called it I might add its the same engine from pc and Xbox 360 ps3 etc they merely turned the visuals to max on the remastered and used the 4k texture packs yes 4k they released on pc my Windows xp ran them with 3 gigs of memory and a 90 gig hdd 4k is nothing special so everyone that plays the remastered copy has 4k right on their tv before their eyes and just so happens to not be that big of a seismic shake of a detail which is why pc users could careless about 4k we know what it is truly the added sun rays are not 4k they are an affect snow? Particles model detail? Textures its the same engine same bugs same everything even exploits
    But PlayStation 4 delivers it well only console you can proudly own now days Microsoft cocked a double barreled shit hair trigger 10 inch machine gun and pointed it straight at their own heads ps4 has won the console *war* as it would be called before it began

      @steve_ire321 6 лет назад

      Right, mate. No dummy here myself, but, er, all you basically had to say to explain the requirements of running a game on PSVR is that it needs to run at a base minimum of 60fps with at least a 90-to 120 hertz refresh rate output to a split screen on a 1080p panel, which equates to just less than 720p per eye therein explaining the fidelity hit. Not to mention how close your eyes are to that screen, which is another thing. The end.
