Bonnie here. What absolute over the top opulence of that era. From the top with plaster ceiling decor to paneling on the walls, to the over the door closed pediments to the elaborate wall paper of correct history, how did you ever keep the camera steady and moving over all of it. OMG what a display of colonial wealth. And the history of the slave trade? Well wherever you go Anne, I will go.Thank you so much.
Goodness the architecture is stunning! Murals are breathtaking and the staircase takes my breath away. Even the carriage is luxurious. Absolutely beautiful! Floor to ceiling. I couldn’t imagine living in such grandeur ❤
we see period homes patina'd out and worn through time (which as an antiquer, I adore that aesthetic). What's very appealing with this structure is the "newness" of everything. I mean it feels contemporary in age; IOW you can imagine that you're in the relevant period, with a brand new home and its furnishings. Sort of surreal.
Yes that true. Everything looks brand new. The wallpaper was all redone and made to match the original paper so it all looks very new. Lots of the homes I go to fell in disrepair at some time over the centuries… like used as chicken coops. This one was always owned by people with wealth until they turned it over as a museum.
Thank you for showing this beautiful home. And thank you for showing the history connected to it. Enslaved people wee a form of currency at that time. Perhaps the main form of currency in the New World. Sad but true.
Very true and very sad. Someone asked me why everything just went black at the end and I said… there’s absolutely no other way to end this then to let the truth speak.
@@AnneClay Thank you, Anne, for letting the truth speak. The house is very beautiful, but at the same time marks a very sobering look back at a very sad part of US history. I’m so glad I found your channel. I appreciate everything you do. ❤️🙏
I live near Harpers Ferry WV and the John Brown we all know is the abolitionist just before the Civil War.....I had to look up the John Brown of RI - a completely different guy
Quite the video!
Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome Chris!

I know! But you wouldn’t have to clean it or do anything you didn’t want to. The most you’d have to do is change dresses a few times a day.
Beautiful
The woodwork was so ornate and all carved
What a beautiful home thank you Ann for taking us there ❤
You’re welcome Dawn!

Right… all hand carved!
What a way to make your riches.
Brillant home at a cost.
Thank you for the history
So true right Gail! Before you even tour the house there is an entire exhibit about how the owners got their wealth.
Wow, thank you Anne

Beautiful home, but can't appreciate that the wealth came from slavery. Enjoyed the video, thanks for taking us on this tour
I agree Nancy.
A beautiful home- amazing craftsmanship! It’s so very horrific that its beauty came from the slave trade- 😔
I know!! It’s horrible! More and more stories in the north are being uncovered of the slave triangle trade.
John Brown's body lies mouldering in the grave?Harpers ferry?
Funny
I think this is a different John Brown. You are thinking of the abolitionist and Civil War.

Wheres the dark history part at tho?

Do you have a PO Box? I want to send a book to you, Anne. And maybe a poncho with big pockets for hospital visits, just in case.
Israel Aaron Fairchild went to one abolitionist meeting and then disappeared on paper. Was there more than one John Brown?
Yes this would not have been the abolistionist John Brown.Totally the opposite although later his descendant did denouce slavery
@@AnneClay good to know! I grew up with the song about him moldering in the grave.
i was born in the wrong time
Lots of people feel that way but it wouldn’t be much fun to be a woman back then.
