For Jacob being sick and Julia's dad taking the longer route than the simplest way Google Maps shows: what is up with some dudes doing that? My dad and my brother are the same way, it's like they have a sense that kicks in where when someone is sick/ mad/ any other negative mood or condition and they just HAVE to pick the most obnoxious/ inconvenient route to get to your destination.

Yes they do care for their dead realtives' bodies for years after their death, incorporating them into their daily life as though they were sick or sleeping. They view that line between death and life is more of a membrane than a concrete wall, so maintaining the body of your beloveds as you would in life is normal, respectful, what any caring family member would do. So is taking them out for a picnic once a year - keeping them connected to the way of Living that we know while they are Living Differently. The intimacy, care and connection of it all is really fascinating and warm imho
