I read The Mandibles 3 times. Amazing insight into what may in be in store for US and it's dependant populations in the very near future. In future reprints it would be good if a family tree could be included as this book could be summarised as the survival of a 4 tier extended family at a time of what's to come.... Possibly, probably or maybe
4:44 so damn true. And so much truth throughout this interview. She speaks with much greater clarity, insight and precision than far more successful writers. Ironically, though, imo Shriver speaks much better than she writes. I've watched multiple interviews by her, but I bounced hard off the first few pages of her supposed best novel.
This intriguing lady was interview on BBC's Meet the Author. Annoyingly a recording of the program is no longer available. It was this interview that prompted me to buy the book, The Mandibles. I should point out to her credit that I don't usually read women's stuff. Respect. So pleased she resides with us in the UK, she must be taking up her own implied advice.
ohwellwhateverr I accept your rebuke, sadly it will not make any difference now, I had to read Lionel's book with a large magnifying lens. However I would normally borrow books from a library, on this occasion I actually purchased a hard backed copy, something I cannot remember previously doing. Please give me a little credit and forgiveness.
I'm a fella and I'm the opposite, I rarely read men's fiction and I don't know why. (Non fiction is another matter)... however I don't think it's a matter for either opprobrium or praise. It's just the way it is.
I've read her work and journalism and she's a smart person and good writer. Personally she always comes off as a bit of a jerk EVEN WITHIN the fact she's a conservative where jerkdom is the coin of the realm. She goes the extra mile. D.A., NYC
@@BonRain8734 I can't speak for the person you're addressing, of course; but I just wanted to say -- I've met jerks on both sides of the political fence, unfortunately. I wish all the jerks were just on one side, but they're all over the place, especially lately. It's as if being jerky has become a pandemic whose vector of transmission is social media. 😕 But I've never met this woman in person, so I have no clue what she's actually like when she's not on camera; because that's how we really get to know people: Who are they when the world isn't watching? Who are they with their closest family and friends? That's who they _really_ are.
So sensible, so eloquent, so wonderful. I love this woman.
i love this woman....
sheldon brathwaite I could easily be her slave..... Butler, Chef Handyman/Electrician.
She's so cool.

hey, i'm just curious, which one is her supposed best novel you mentioned ?
She reminds me of Harrison Ford for some reason
On the BBC 2 Arts Critic chaired by Kirsty Wark, Lionel liked to wear those distinctive black erotic ladies gloves which has always intrigued me.

It's to your detriment that you don't read "women's stuff". Why would you dismiss half the human race? Shame on you.

It's coming out in June! I'm reading an advanced copy now and it's fantastic.

Did she came off as a jerk in this interview, in your opinion?
