If you get a spare rabbit, they make awesome eel bait. Burn the rabbit whole over a fire or singe it, cut it up a bit to release its blood etc and put that into your eel trap, hinaki in Maori. That’s the best bait I’ve found, taught to me by my grandfather. Thank you for this awesome video. Has got me keen to go eeling again!!! Cheers
i know this is an old video but incase someone else reads it and gains some knowledge, your hinaki at the first spot should have been set 180 degrees in the other direction

When I was a kid I was taught to urinate on the eel trap before putting in the water. Acts as bait. It's an old Māori practice.
