i love shemaghs. i got one from a surplus store and while practicing tying it, i got cold and i put it on my lap and it kept me warm. i bring it everywhere. its my best friend, like a kid with his fav. blankie. i have a spiritual connection to it.

Hey i'm a muslim and i am actually also of bangladeshi origin, I just want to apologise for having to read what that 'islam bangladesh' dude said about the Shemagh, please don't think muslims act similar to this.. obviously they are a 'hater' without logic..I live in UK n wear a shemagh to the mosque when I pray and I love when I see non-muslims wearing it, there's so many ways to wrap it and the point you made about the beach made me laugh. Anyway as a muslim I just wanted to show good manners

I bought some linen fabric from a local fabric store. A little more expensive, but more durable and evaporates well to keep me cool. They wear linen a lot I guess near the equator, Mexico, south America. I bought a 48 by 52 inch piece, and it works great as is, but I plan on hemming the edges so it won't unravel, and maybe use the extra material to make tagin (sp?) tassels. You can definitely make these on your own, all you need is a big square of light cotton or linen, maybe even hemp.

Cool man, thanks for the reply. Since it got cold here too I started wearing mine running as a scarf too. It works great since it's so breathable yet still kind of warm. People don't care as long as you don't wear it like you're going to rob a bank.

Most people in Iraq BEGGED to be liberated. Shemaghs are great for camo, keeping debris out of your eyes and face, keeping you warm OR cool, and they just look neat. I don't take much stock in what people in the middle east do with theirs, like I said, some gang members use bandannas to signify their gang colors, I just use them as rags. Thanks for sharing your opinion and the info!

Hey Kingmanted I wore mine today on my walk to school due to negative degree weather. I got some looks but no one harassed me and honestly I wouldn't have cared if someone had said something to me. It keeps my face warm and works a hell of a lot better than a scarf. Although you shouldn't walk into a store with it on. Take it off once your indoors and just keep a beanie handy.

I bought mine from an Army Navy store, but you can buy them anywhere that sells military/tactical gear. LAPoliceGear, OPSGEAR, Amazon, even BladeHQ. Depending on where you buy it will determine the color/pattern. Also, the countries of origin differs, and the size differs. Most are 42"x42" Some of 41"x43" but it doesn't really matter. Also, the knit is tighter in some than others. So some you get will be real soft, and others will be more "cloth" like.

You can play around with the area above the glasses, to vent. Or put the shemagh over your nose, and lay the bridge of the glasses over that, that should help. Other than that, they make some goggles and glasses that are anti-fog, and they also make anti-fog glasses spray :)

Just how bandannas are only used to signify what gang you're in. They may USE shemaghs as you described, but that's not why they were invented. They were for men who worked cattle, it was to keep the sun and sand out of their face and keep them cooler. The US military use them for the same reason, they don't view themselves as "liberators"

To those thinking of trying one out I would say go buy a cheap one for five bucks and see if it works for you. Then get a better quality one that will last.Don't be put off by the tassels.Somehow they look good when you wrap it on.Not feminine at all when worn by a man.
