Although there is no Islamic ruling against the wearing of the Gutra for Kuffar, there is a hadith wear the Prophet Muhammad [saw] stated that Muslims wear their various head-wear (Kuffi, Taqiyah, Turban, etc.) because it distinguishes us from the Kafir (Disbelievers). Again, there is nothing stating you can't wear these items, but there is a ruling in Islam that I should warn you of if you do wear these items. You may wear the Gutra, but please don't pretend to be a Muslim when you are not. Allah [swt] calls these people the Munafiq and considers them the worst category that any human can be in. I may be 2 months late, but I hope this information may help you or others tat may read it. Salam

I was watching a movie and I saw men wearing this, and i googled what the actual name is (i am neither muslim or middle eastern) because I didn't know. I really like different kind of 'rituals' (i don't know how to say it, I am not English) and this looks amazing and pretty functional for a hot, sunny and sandy country. they do, many in Jordan , Palestine and the Syrian Bedouins still wear their traditional clothing even the nomads of northern sina in Egypt dress just like this.. and ofcourse in iraq this is as traditional as it comes ^^
notable example is Yasser Arafat who wore Palestinian ghutra and Igal! I have also seen in Iraq that a lot of elderly men wear thawb with a coat on and a Palestinian ghutra ;)

Yes, khfyah is the the small white hat and ghetra is the one above it. Also ghetra is the white one, shmagh is the one with red and white. Yes there are many ways and you can tell where the person is form according to their style and Lebanese people don’t wear it.
There are different styles of headgear for sure...the style shown is a common style found in Kuwait/Saudi/Bahrain...the Omanis wear it completely different and those from UAE...although royalty do wear it in a particular style but that never stopped the common people to copy and pretend they're royalty..:) As soon as I find a place they sell it on the internet..I'll let you know!

The size of the egal might be the problem. It should be big enough to keep the gutra secure on your head and not fall off....unless you're jumping :)
