      This is what happens when the mustang driver can actually drive lol. I used to run with light modded ls cars in my 410 geared 97 cobra back in the day light bolt ons. I bang gears too and that really does make a difference. On these cars the driver mod matters even more than it does on most other cars which is already alot it always matters but with these they're top end happy so if you short shift and/or shift slow it makes a big difference on what the car can do that is why you see some races where these older 4vs get smoked the driver really effects their performance you cannot short shift them and you cannot shift slow period. It makes or breaks their performance even more so than usual.

      @@midnight347 yep. My 96 cobra ran just as good if not better than my bolt on 6 speed Lt1 did.
      Cobras normally get revved to far , or not far enough.
      And they're not as quick nor easily to shift as an f body with a t56 paired to a hydraulic clutch

      @@mattorama you are correct. Those cobras eat when you do that. It's people that don't know how to drive them that make them seem slow.
      The 6 speed in the Lt1 etc was more forgiving on shifts because of the hydraulic clutch in my opinion.
      But the mustangs are serious when you can do exactly what you said just right, they show the true potential they have.

      @@conwaysdetailing387 I’ve been saying it for years since I got my 96 cobra! I’ve managed to beat or keep up with cars that would annihilate the 96-98 cobras on RUclips and figured it was because most 96-98 cobra guys can’t drive them worth shit! Every time I see someone shifting these cars they grandma shift them and on top of that they short shift these cars too much, the guy in this video is a damn good example of how you’re supposed to drive these cars!

      Sure, I owned a stock 97 Cobra, and it was quicker than stock camaros and firebirds, but not by much! After 25 years of slow cars, it was great getting into something like the muscle cars i owned in the past! Corvettes, and GTO's! On my second Cobra now, that's set up for track! Fun!

      ​@@tesladrive1152 Quicker than some stock LT1's maybe, but not LS1. LS1 6-speed was much faster than 96-01, that's why Ford invented the Terminator.

    I had a 96 cobra off-road
    H-pipe, flow masters, Cold air intake, 3:73 gears, pro 5.0 short throw shift and an aftermarket clutch and I raced many LS1 ram air TA’s and LS1 SS Camaros and every race went exactly how these ones went lol! I ate LT1 Camaros and Trans Am‘s for breakfast so often that I never lost to one lol!

      Okay, but much like a N/A Modular 4V a LS1 is a total dog below 3,800-4K RPM. A LS1 is not a pulleyed Terminator, or GT500, or GEN5 LT1. It's not an engine you want to use its lowend power to efficiently lug itself into a healthy topend pull. LS1 is an engine that you want to make very sure you're in the right gear before starting a race. A stock LS1 redlines at 6K RPM, but it feels like it's spinning 7K RPM because it's power is so focused on the topend that the 6K RPM is deceiving, and the car feels and sounds like it's turning way more RPM than 6K. A large cam LS1 is going to be even more topend focused, and spin higher than a stock cam LS1.
      Besides you don't need a huge amount of lowend grunt to get a good launch. Tire/chassis setup/RPM/driver skill for a good launch. I knew a guy with a basically stock C5 Z06 that would easily outlaunch my pulleyed/tuned/bolton 03 Cobra, even though I was making way more lowend grunt. On the big end I would pull on him, but a Terminator on stiff MM C/O's and heavy 18" replica's is going to have a hard time launching better than a C5Z.

      ​@JROC734 this. People act like whatever has more low end torque is automatically gonna take the dig race that ain't how it works. If you're launching at 5-6k it don't matter what your torque is at 2500 lol

    Late 90's pony cars were starting to get fast! Ford with 4valve technology, and GM with cubic inch torque! The beginning of big things to come, with even Dodge stepping up to the plate! Glorious! Electric cars are bound to surpass, as electric motors have increadable potential! Just ask the railroad companies who rely'd on electric motors to move freight for the last 70 years! 18 wheelers are going to use that same technology, with an engine driven generator powering electric motors on the driven wheels! Regenerative braking to charge the battery pack on downgrades! Solid state control technology advances has made it possible!

    good area to race haha nothin around. That t/a did a good job keeping up with the bolt on cobra! LS1 kicks ass lol. Im about to buy a 96 cobra though, due to the ice here and the t/a is to front heavy for ice.

    What type mufflers and does it have a catd mid pipe? You should def make more vids! Thanks for the info man. Im resto/modding a '96 Cobra. Im having to do paint and body work too so my funds are divided...also now debating getting a second car so when its in the shop its less hassle. I run a car dlrship and you think that would make it easier, but Piedmont Racing is a 30 min drive from home and my work is a 30 min drive and in different directions DOH! haha

      The ls has alot more cubes and it has higher compression. Bolt ons and a cam is a pretty big upgrade on ls cars. They have the advantage stock for stock already because of said advantages then you add in bolt ons and cam it's no surprise it runs with a 4v on lowish boost. I know he wasnt running much boost hes at 420 whp. Cant really run much more safely on a stock bottom end which is prob why it is where it is. The ls has got to be in the 400 rwhp range or higher that's pretty common with his mods. With upgraded rods and pistons only you could really turn it up on this cobra they have a forged crank stock and one or the strongest aluminum blocks ever put into a mustang. The 96-98 cobras are low key underrated cars for big power without spending huge money.

      Yea it goes to show what another 65 cubes and more compression plus going into the engine does for you lol. Idk what people expect 6-8 psi to do but you're not setting records with it it's a fucking stock long block 4.6 from the 90s. I think it's more impressive to see what the cobra can do against a much larger engine that has been gone into the ls cars also had 6 speeds instead of 5 speeds so gearing advantage. People always talk na or boost but totally leave out the other details. The cobra is just pushing 420 rwhp with turbos guys push 500 on stock bottom end you can make higher than 420 on stock bottom end you just gotta have more supporting mods fueling cams headers etc better fuel. You can get in the upper 400 wheel range at the same boost level. This is just a run of the mill low boost stock long block cobra from the 90s. These cobras came out 96-98 the ls1 didn't even start in camaros till 98 it's a more fair comparison with a Mach they were stouter stock for stock...I've owned both. Still just 4.6. Like today the Ford cars got down with way less cubes some things never change they both went up half liter now to 5.0 and 6.2 but it's the same story different day.

      @@DickVanNiggz they have way less cubes less compression. A light modded geared cobra with the driver mod can easily keep up with a light modded stockish ls1. I seen a fbo one with 456s trap 109 but was turning low 12 ets. The ls has the advantage stock vs stock and mod for mod but the cobra is close enough to be within striking distance if it has a coupe more bolt ons long as the driver mod is present many guys cant drive I cant stress enough how much it matters but it matters even more so with these cars they're all top end gutless down low you have to keep the rpms high as possible and shift fast as possible and too many guys dont do this and it really hurts them. They can surprise ya for what they are if they have the driver mod. They're all manual so driver mod makes or breaks them.

    I got a 94 cobra. It's the bigger 302..full bolt ons. I beat a r35 skyline and a 01 cobra the other night. Beat a rx8, 98 cobra, and a 03 GT.

      I love the 5.0 cobras but they dont got nothing on a 4v cobra. You may have beat the driver. Stock for stock the 4v is faster and bolt on for bolt on you would have to do heads cam intake upgrades on the 5.0 cobra do even it up or have the advantage vs a well driven fbo 4v cobra. You can just do cams in addition to that on the 4v to have the advantage again. The 4v is also rods and pistons away from making 800-1000 rwhp reliably whereas the 5.0 cobra would need an entire rotating assembly AND an aftermarket dart block to acheive those same numbers. The 94-95 does make more power than rated but not as much as a 4v they dyno around 260 whp bone stock the 5.0 cobras do like 220-230 bone stock. The 5.0 is a little stouter down low but in a race that dont really matter the high rpm capabilities of the 4v trumps that in an actual race like the ones in this video. It might be larger but it isnt better. Everybody has their preference and I have nothing against the pushrod cars I've owned both just stating facts. You may have beat an 01 you're prob more modded than him OR they couldn't drive for shit or both.

      @@midnight347 bro I totally agree. But I mean ive beat 2 4.6s and they both either had pi heads or trickflow heads. As well as headers and gears when I only had full bolt ons. Ite confusing cuz i think somebody put a mild cam in my car before I got it. People always told me your car is built different, no way it should be that fast. I mean it redlines quicker than anything I've ever been in. Thinkin maybe it's got ported heads or a mild cam in it. Fixin to do a head swap anyways as well as installing the highest performance cam In it I could find so I'll find out what's been done to it internally.

      @@midnight347 sn95s have a hard time making it past 5000 cuz they have shitty airflow. Mine just shoots to 6k like its nothin. I knew that was always wierd cuz sn95s aren't fast like that. It's been a mystery cuz it doesn't have the aggressive lope a big cam would give it. Im thinking somebody ported the shit out of the heads or something before I got the car. Idk.

      @@5leatereater854 the cobras had gt40 heads and cobra intake same as gt40 they got 1.7 roller rockers stock etc they pull up top alot better than regular 5.0s of the time so it isnt that unbelievable especially if its modded like ported intake possibly heads too its possible to get some decent power without swapping the cam.

      KODstorm21 if you watched the video, you'd see it has a procharger, aka a blower, I'm aware of what came in each cobra lol I'm saying the only ones that beat even lightly modded ls1s only win because they're supercharged.

    Hmm, not sure if I believe the Cobra has a Procharger. I have a 97 with intercooled Procharger, 7lbs boost, made 440 to wheels, I have 315 Nittos in back and a 40mph roll is worthless for me, blows tires off, much less a 20mph roll. If I tried a 20mph roll, I'd get traction once I hit 3rd gear, no sooner. Don't believe a cammed, bolt on LS would touch me, not even close. JMHO.

      There's no way he'd keep up with that Trans Am without a procharger. Could be he's running stock fuel setup with lower boost and the 420whp was a high dyno reading..

      Because you prob run garbage street tires 315 don't matter if it's shitty street nittos. I promise your little centri 97 cobra ain't got nothing for a pair of 315 et street r lol. They hook my 750 rwhp gen3r 07 gt500 with 410s in 2nd on a warm day. It's a total torque monster I a 3700 lbs coupe. Just having wide tires don't help you much you gotta have a diff tire compound. You're better off running a 275 drag radial over a 315 street tire.

It's prob only running 6-7 psi on pump gas with like no supporting mods it's a stock long block 4.6 from the mid 90s taking on a cammed ls1 with another 65 cubic inches and more compression etc and the cobra took the w. It could make alot more power with just more supporting mods at the same boost level. A fbo cammed setup on the ls is prob up 100 rwhp or more over stock just like the cobra is with low boost maybe little over 100 more than stock but it's not that far off what each of the cars setups added over stock power. People see boosted and na and just assume boosted should have a big advantage let's just forget the 65 cubic inches and extra compression the ls is running on top of going into the motor. These cobras aren't pitiful at all they ran good for their day and put in work. That cobra is rods and pistons and more boost away from 1000+ rwhp capability. They're far from pitiful.

    I'm confused my 01 gt beat my friends full bolt on ws6 with Bolton's and a tune my gt had just mufflers and I got him by 1 car how the hell a cammed bolton trans am running with a procharged cobra unless one of his Bolton's is nitrous lol

      Well for 1 the guy you raced in the WS6 didn't know how to drive, 2 the Cobra didn't have a procharger in this video.

      @@mr_business this cobra does have a procharger it says it in the video it's at 420 rwhp the ls1s with bolt ons and cam can get into the 400+ rwhp range easily nothing surprising about this video...and yes a stock 2v has no chance against a stock ls1 properly driven let alone a fbo one this is coming from a die hard ford guy but I speak facts.

      I'm a die hard ford guy and love these cobras but do you really think a bolt on 96 cobra can run like this and even pull on one race a bolt on cammed ls1?? That ta is prob in the 400 rwhp range or damn close to it come on man be real. Nothing unbelievable about this video. Again I'm die hard ford man but I speak facts not bs. The cobra is on low boost if hes only at 420 with a full exhaust because stock bottom end cant reliably handle much beyond that.

      No it's not it's a fucking ls1 there's nothing special about a damn ls1. That 4v is rods and pistons plus boost away from 1000-1500+ rwhp reliably. Guys went 5s at 256 in the QUARTER MILE over 10 years ago with a 4.6 4v stock block stock crank stock style ported heads no ls has come close with any factory parts anywhere near 281 cubic inches let alone a fucking ls1. Get out of here with that bullshit go read a book and do some homework before talking shit. That "mod pos" runs circles around that ls1 on potential modified and built.

      Because bolt on cammed ls1 get in the 400+ rwhp range and the cobra is on low boost because stock motor and is at 420 rwhp it really isnt that surprising? Just because it has forced induction dont mean its running 20 psi lol. It's a nice bump in power dont get me wrong but it isnt much better than bolt ons and cam for an ls those cars gain alot of power with those mods they're already quicker than the 96 cobras stock for stock to begin with. Nothing surprising here the ls has way more cubes (346 vs 281) and higher compression too. I'm a Ford guy through and through I dont see anything surprising here.
