As a side note, I love the way the physio uses her hands, it really does help with my understanding; adding a visual element I suppose. Excellent & easily accessible health promotional advice.
Not only is the information helpful, the delivery is fantastic. Your speaking pace is spot on, fast enough to keep me interested, but not so fast I can't keep up. You present the information in such an organized way that I'd think there must be a script, but a no moment did it seem like you were reading. Also, I don't think there was a single time that you used an um that nervous people use to collect their thoughts. Best of all, every other video on this topic was 15 minutes long, yours was less than half of that because you were focused and stayed on topic.
Personal Experience : I slept + spent most of the day hours on my preferred Left side on the floor on folded blankets . The cushoning of the blankets decrease so fast. This lasted 3 weeks. Suddenly ( overnight) i developed severe piriformis / sciatica ( Severe ...but strange symptoms such as walking ok for 30 seconds ,then severe pain in one spot of the foot ). It was probably piriformis spasms as the pain stopped when i stretched my left thing.... the problem lasted a week or so........ Now , a year later, I still am not comfortable sleeping on my peferred left side. The whole left hip area ,bursa,,,,,muscles,,,and all ,,,is not the same.
Thanks again, and I've tried all those. The only position I can at least get some relief is on the belly, unaffected leg bent, affected side foot pointed out the opposite side. Of course, unconsciously moving in my sleep will always wake me up because the pain returns immediately.
@@elizabethw.454 I have been working on this for a year, physio and exercising religiously at his instruction. The inflammation has now subsided to a more tolerable level, but I feel I will need to just cope with it. I exercise in the water daily, I recommend a swim spa for this, as the temperature is deliciously warm in winter, and I cool it a little in our tropical summer. I hear you about being miserable, but I strongly recommend seeing a physio for manipulation and instruction on proper exercises. Good luck!
Thank you for sharing, I have hip bursatis in my right hip and an herniated disc and sciatica in my left leg, I've used a pillow under my legs but still pain through sciatica, would of been good if I don't have a bulged disk then I can sleep on the left. I have put a pillow under my legs when I sleep on my back with the sciatica.
Ali you’re absolutely brilliant. You’re completely describing me at the moment. The tips and information you’ve given are so good. I have severe outer hip pain on my right leg this last two months and it’s all a bit complicated due to the sudden lack of help walking my dog twice a day due to my friend who shared the walking leaving the country. As for Crossing legs - Ouch. I am always standing with legs apart to give me balance and relieve pain. The worst for me is climbing up hills and the stairs. I have to walk up like a toddler. (Can’t raise the right leg into the flex position without stiffness and pain). I need to book sessions with you ! I also have DDD. X-ray just came back. Gluteals are weak and have decreased in size these past couple of years and I have a ventral hernia.
Ali will be happy to help - you can find out more about the online consultations and book an appointment with her via this page: www.sports-injury-physio.com/services
You can do it in any way - with that position, the idea is that it should allow you to sleep pain free with either hip on it because it does not place direct pressure on either of them. In reality it is often only comfortable for a while and then you need to change and switch over. Experiment and see what works best for you.
@@stardawgbro9201 .....I see there's no answer to your query. Sleeping on a hard mattress is not good, but you do need a firm mattress, and I use a Feather bed topper on top of the mattress, and a heated mattress pad. This combination works wonders, and using a pillow between your knees can help, because it will take the pressure off. ( as she demonstrated) . I also do a few hip strengthening exercises, which do help.
@@Nivek_Fartswamy I just wanted to give an update on my situation. It wasn't nearly as severe as yours and after adjusting my sleeping position it went away relatively quickly. Now I'm laying on a "halfway between side and belly"- position or on my back, wich does require some time to get used to. Hope you'll get better soon.
Dumb question: on the third position, which leg is on the cushion? I slept all my life on either side but especially the "bad one" and with hip adducted and loved it. Can't really sleep on my back. I am now sleeping on my front and it's ok but I wake up with painful tingling arm from compression.. will try the suggestions :)
i left my good mattress with that woman and sleep in recliner or on piles of comforters and blankets for 5 years. memory foam sux might try hammock soon
The position where Ali is on her back with the pillow half under her might work - it creates a half turn without placing direct pressure on either hip.

If my right hip has the bursitis and I want to sleep half on, half off (last demonstration), dies my right hip go on the pillows or on the bed?

Thank you i going to try it tonite god bless
i tried this naked and within 30 seconds my.boyfriend decided to slide in.my ase.
The question is, HOW do you stay in the position throughout the night?
very helpful thanks. :)
Is it possible that sleeping on the same side of your body on a *very* hard mattress can also lead to such irritations?
Must be im in agony on my matress

It's the injured one so that the pressure is half off it.

Which exercises can I do to stop me having this tightness during the night. I want to solve this problem not live with it.
