I’ve been in a similar driver situation and we decided to go to the local police. Where we got to know that the police is especially for the tourists and at last the driver had to give us money from his pocket. So mate in a situation like this always go for the local police.

Word of advise if you are traveling to northern areas... Jeeps are only good for rough roads. On good roads you will be just fine with a normal car. And always get a professional company driver as they are used to driving up north all the time and they take good care of their car and also keep it clean for the customers. These random ones in the middle of the road are not experienced and they just want to make quick buck so if you want peace of mind and no hassle, always hire a professional company driver. You can find many in the northern areas. You are there to enjoy the views and local experience, unprofessional drivers and car issues are the last things you want

Then all you guys have to do is rent a decent vehicle that can travel up mountains and drive it there. I would never have chosen to ride in this jeep, which said "discomfort" all over it from a mile away. Don't just pick random guys where they happen to be. Pick a decent car or a car with driver from a decent rental or a guide, and you guys would do just fine. Do not just pick random guys with random vehicles in the middle of the road. They are not professionals and all they care about is money.
This should be honored as 'The Most Mental Trip Ever'. The wait, the vehicle's issue, the u-turn trip, then vehicle's issue again, the lack of safety, everything. Your patience is out of the world mate 😅

This is a "desi" thing, keep everything looking as new as possible. I was born and raised in Canada, parents from Pakistan. Growing up, our couch and TV remote were always covered in plastic.
They do in alot of places - Singapore in particular I remember. It's obviously to keep the wear and tear to a minumum from all those different bottoms getting in and out of the vehicle. Quite sensible really.
I would have preferred a fist-fight over paying that driver. It cost you what 50 grand to almost get killed and still not make your destination. Yeah, I'm throwing down with the driver.
Wth I could literally regret my whole life if I had paid even 10 extra rs. to such guy and you literally paid him 10000. You really thought he could do anything? Instead you could have told him to bring his boys quick coz your boys are just 10 mins away
