In Australia, Cane Toads are eaten by keelback snakes, Salt Water crocodiles, and Rakali who flip them over and eat internal organs, also some birds eat their lower half, avoiding the poison glands.

I figured it's more about overwhelming population and what they eat. Sadly, natural predators did have to adapt which still hurts the balance of nature.

Lovely vid, I think if something 100 times my size tried picking me up I'd urinate all over it as well 😂 The main issue with the adverts is that it doesn't restart where the video left off so you have to rewind. Before the 1st ad you were holding it saying 'we'll keep it there' when the ad started and when the vid started again it was already in the new home, . No matter how many ads they put on it, it won't put people off your excellent content 🙂

    Ah the old Cane toad
As you know im in Australia and they were introduced to Carins in Queensland and they are now as you say quite the nuisance up there especially in certain weather and they grow into huge toads some as big as your head,
Having one to watch grow in a controlled environment I think they are great but in the wild not so much.
Great video as always guys 😊👍🏻

As much as I love the mossy frogs and your big Odin, this one reminds me of the Bupo toads in Florida and they give me nightmares. It isn’t their fault that dogs like to chew on them and get poisoned but it did give me some bad experiences. I never thought I would prefer spiders 😮🤣. You have made me a changed woman. Hi Dave, and camera lady. I really liked this video about the Cane Toad. That is pretty, and large toad. I live in St.Petersburg, Florida. I worked for a vet. A nice family dog, found a cane toad, and was exposed to the poison. They brought their dog in, but it was to late, and the dog died. 😢They are all over in Florida. So now there are signs now about cane toads, and don't loose sight of your dog. Really nice rehousing, and thank you for all of the information about the cane toad. Cindy USA

Yeah it's always a bit of a mix of things. For you Aussies, they are an invasive and problematic species. In other parts of the world it's a big growing toad that's very cool to look at.
Just like Aussies get along with huntsman spiders a lot more than Europeans would. Everything is an issue of mind. Just like eating tarantulas in Cambodia vs. Australia, America or Europe. Unlikely to happen, even though it's totally possible.

Thanks for explaining that it's a combination of their toxicity, eating habits and monumental reproduction rates. That said, at this size, they are rather cute.

This is what chatgpt has to say about the natural enemies of the Cane Toad:
Natural enemies of the Cane Toad:
The Australian black snake (Pseudechis porphyriacus):
This snake is known for its ability to eat Cane Toads without severe poisoning. Scientists have found that these snakes have developed a specific adaptation to break down the poison of the Cane Toad, making it less harmful to their own bodies.
Other natural predators include various native birds, mammals, and reptiles. In their native habitats in Central and South America, Cane Toads face predation from snakes, birds of prey, and certain mammalian predators. However, in areas where the Cane Toad has been introduced as an invasive species, the lack of natural predators has contributed to its successful establishment, posing challenges for local ecosystems.

Great video Dave and lovely camera lady I really enjoyed seeing your cane toad such a fabulous beast, I hope he/she is settling into the new enclosure and enjoying the new space. Just a quick question do you have any tips for getting rid of fungus gnats in enclosures ? I have some that I driving me mad!

I know Dave that you remarked in whether or not these cane toads could /would survive our winters... I know it was a general query. But I wouldn't want them too, fearing what they could inflict on our native species & other vulnerable wildlife. Personally I feel having creatures like these warrants a licence & was wondering if that's the case for hobbyists? I'd hate to think there's some unscrupulous people out there that aren't as responsible as you & many of your followers that would turn these out into the wild because they've grown tired of keeping/caring for them?
