We basically had a 2 handed jack hammer, but it wasn't really a jack hammer! Used it a lot for removing frozen king pins! But, that was back in the mid 1990's, and had to break out the blue wrench several times, even with that!
I have that same cp 717. The Astro “THOR” is the knock off. Had my CP 717 for over 15 years now. Used almost daily. Still going strong. Tool truck air hammers don’t compare. One thing I would advise is not using the Quick chuck. The hard and steel balls beat up the bits over time
Had an instructor who traded mechanic work with a buddy of his for custom attachments for his air hammer to do spring bushings and such. Says he made a lotta money with it.
Harbor freight is Chicago electric and central pneumatic, chicago pneumatic is its own thing, they actually make a TON of different tools as well as compressors of all sizes up to and including huge twin screw industrial units.
That's the most controllable air hammer ever made. It's what body techs call the gold standard. That's why it's so good. For power output is what we use the snapon one for. We use the CP for precision. Like door skins or shaving spotwelds for example.

They say it’s one of the hardest hitting air hammers ever made. I have the short version of that one that I got at a garage sale for $20 with a bunch of bits and it’s leagues better than my snap on and matco
@@RealNickTheCoolest one of them, sure, there’s only one or two more powerful hammers in pistol grip config. But anything bigger than that and you’re looking at a rock hammer not a metal hammer. The zip gun has had 50+ years of blowing dudes away in metal shops, it’s the go to for sure.
I use my air hammer for loosening hard to reach nuts or bolts, and sometimes drain plugs because Jiffy Lube techs use a breaker bar to tighten them for some reason.
I see the new tool box and I know they r not cheap so u must be making good money doing these utube videos. Keep them coming, I appreciate them, thanks to Bob
I love the quick release chuck on them. CP like AP used to be real real decent tools until harbor freight started selling them, but Astro, I love Astro pneumatic.
I like my old Japanese made tools just as much as my old US made tools, none of it high end but still works better than most new stuff after all this time
That there is my best friend at work too. You have a different model there than what we use for bump rivets to make air-cargo containers to ship bulk goods but I love my rivet gun. It's fun making the new guys lube the guns with the air drills for 5 seconds straight and watch their shirt get a big ol wet spot from the blowout ports when they use it right after😅😅
Believe it or not, chicago pneumatic is also produced in rockhill s.c, or use to be because my cousin use to work for them. The hamdle made be japan or whatever but internal parts and assembly is the U.S so you should have a pretty decent air hammer there..... just thought id let you know...
I have an ingersoll rand I bought used 25 years ago. It has a spring that holds the punch in that ive replaced a couple times. I have 3 other air hammer in my tool box that rarely get used.
I'm in the process of collecting a whole lineup of Chicago Pneumatic air tools for starting my business. It's a completely different company from Central Pneumatic, headquartered in the US with R&D being done in Germany and France. CENTRAL pneumatic is all China. Harbor Freight simply ripped off the name for their brand. The genuine CP is still one of the best out there.
The truck workshop i used to work at had two air hammers - one 1/2" Ingersoll Rand, and one 3/4" Ingersoll Rand. The half inch was pretty neat and punched out thousands of chassis rivets in my hands, the three quarter unit hit like a pissed off roided up mule and we only ever reached for it when something had gone wrong somehow.
Sp air tools makes some pretty reasonably priced made in Japan air tools, they’re partner brand vessel makes awesome hand tools so it’s probably worth a shot
A friend had a family member in jail who wanted to sell some tools while locked up for extra money. I bought all of his various air hammer bits, 30 pieces in all, for $100. This includes an 18in punch which is real nice, rivet bits, various curved cutters etc. Best tool purchase i ever made as all were named tool brands.

The Chief air tool hammer from HF is a clone of a tool truck brand. I forgot which one but torque test channel did a video on it. Other than the trigger being less subtle its the same. Pretty impressive results in their test too.
We got a big one from Harbor Freight and made a sold 2-inch bit for it and some others. Works great on high pressure, and if it craps outtake it back. When the baaic steel bits get mushroomed, we just lathe it down some or make another one.
