Want to learn about Cuban Coffee? 🇨🇺☕ I just released a comprehensive course breaking down the history of coffee on Cuba, where it’s cultivated, the four variations, and how you can make each variation yourself. 🧠 Expand your knowledge of the culture of Cuba by enrolling here: www.udemy.com/course/cubancoffee/?referralCode=961B166FD359ED5A3E53
El Cine Yara was actually el Teatro Warner Radiocentro built in 1947, which later was just known as Radiocentro. The theater projected movies in cinerama, which is a widescreen process that had images projected by three synchronized projectors, something similar to Walt Disney Word's Circle-Vision but in 180°. Cinerama became a must-see spectacle in Cuba in the 1950's. Adjacent to it is a 10-story building that housed radio station CMQ, which later became Cuba's most prestigious television/radio network. As a side note, Cuba's TeleColor Canal 12 owned by Gaspar Pumarejo made its first broadcast in color in 1958 making Cuba the second country in the world outside of the United States (1950) to do so. I would venture to say that Cuba's Chinatown -el barrio chino de La Habana- is empty because of the mass exodus that began after the revolution took over in 1959. Most of them were, no doubt, unwilling to live under a regime similar to Mao Tse Tung's China. One thing that I love about Romina's videos is that they remind us, Cubans like me, of a Cuba that no longer exists.
After hearing about the long wait for Ice Cream,I will try not to complain about the line at Starbucks. I vaguely remember hearing my dad talk about Chinatown. Cool Video!.👍👍
@@redromina Yes, I loved the location. It was so close to everything and as you know was like less than a 5 minute walk to rhe Malecon. I did find it super funny that there was a Chinatown in Havana
While growing up in the 70s and 80s as a kid I had a friend who was Cuban, but of Chinese descent. So yes, I knew from his parents that there was a China Town in Cuba. Cuba also has or had a lot of people from Lebanon and other Middle Eastern countries. There is also a small Jewish Community in present day Cuba.
@Gaby Kelly yes, you're right! After the Haitian Revolt in 1802?-1804? many French fled to Cuba. And I once heard a Cuban historian say that it was the French that introduced Coffee to Cuba. Also I did a dna test a while ago with Ancestrydna and I got 53% Portuguese, 24%Spain, 10%France, 4%Italy, 3%Ireland&Scotland, 2%Basque, 2%Middle East, 1%No.Africa, 1%Sardinia. I was born in Cuba just as my parents and their parents, so there you have it. And Yes, you're also right about the Spanish being the largest group of Europeans in Cuba. P.S. I love History and Archaeology.
When I was in Cuba in June, the last day we went to Coppelia, the wait in line was about 2.5 hours, it was raining (not super hard but ya know sprinkling / thunder), when we finally sat down they only have vanilla ice cream left lol, I didnt even eat any since me and ice cream dont get along very well, afterwards we went to the resturant inside that hotel across from the theater and ate some food. Interesting day. Another cool thing I found about Cuba (and this is awful) but cigarette prices are VERY LOW and they also have flavored cigarettes, I quite enjoyed Cuba.
Hi Romina, I loved your video because of the nice vibe that it emits. I like listening to you speaking and the music is well chosen. Only thing: if you hold the camera stable and straight (a gimbal or post-editing can help), the takes look even better.
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it. Thank you for the feedback. It’s usually just me when I travel and I’m always on the move, so doing that kind of thing is unrealistic. But I’ve got pretty sturdy hands and I use a weight under my camera to stabilize otherwise. Never had anyone tell me my shots weren’t stable or straight. You’re the first! Post-stabilization looks quite bad in my opinion so I never use it; only in extreme cases when it helps me get the look that I want. Thanks again!
Romina It’s a minor thing. Overall I love your videos and like how you bring in your personality into them. I just subscribed ! If you come to Berlin and want to know anything, hang out or even do a collab, I’ll be there! :-)
There are a number of ways to go to Cuba. I have family in Cuba, so mine is different from most people who will watch my videos. But you don't need to go with a tour group to go to Cuba regardless. Tropical Tours does private excursions if that's why you brought it up. 😉
Havana’s Chinatown has me reminisce about ‘El Imperial’ the Cuban-Chinese restaurant I’ve frequent with my folks growing up. (They had items such as mariposa, sopa China, arroz frito) Unfortunately, It closed a while back. All in all, nice presentation of how the locals spend their day🙌🙌🇨🇺

Also, your older Havana vlogs from 2017 were so helpful when I went to Havana last year.
Hello William, do you have the Airbnb link?

@@redromina Oh wow! Interesting, you are like the 6th Jewban I now know. ☺

i didn’t knew Cuba has a movie theater!! that was the best part lol haha
Well they have a lot of movie theatres... but a lot of them don’t have movies to play 😅😭

They are having the Havana Film Festival right now.

Cool! Yea the ice cream flavors are quite limited as they just don’t have the resources
Looks like fun..👍
Thank Zeus I’m stuffed with Greek food or else this would have been torture! Everything looked so yummy!
Haha it was all quite delicious

Quite an interesting video but the most interesting thing for me was your hairstyle :)
It's a shame you stopped making videos, I really enjoyed them
You really took me to school on Cuba. I didn't know they had a Chinatown in La Habana! Enjoy your visit. Hopefully, I can get there someday.
Haha yup! Thanks for watching 🖖
Haha good stuff. Pro tip. You can travel to Cuba as a journalist...without the tour group.

Most interesting part: Pinky Up. Lol jk jk I really think that it’s fascinating that so many gather at an ice cream shop just to socialize for a day.
It’s okay. That was the most interesting part for me too. PINKY UP. 🤙
The "$10 pizza", I'm not planning a trip to Havana but if I do I will definitely be heading there!
Haha 😅🍕

All the food looks so good! What I found most interesting about this video was the fact that Cuba had a Chinatown! I would have never thought of that!
@@GaryTurbo Oh yeah...same here!
Awesome! Ya learned a new thing! Thanks for watching
