It is clear to me why the balancing entry to compensation expense (for stock options) does not go to AOCI. But why doesn't it go to another contra account for shareholder equity (just like the accounting treatment for stocks issued to employees)? After all, it is deferred and it is a compensation.
Animations do not help.
While I could see it be annoying for some, I actually found them to entertaining and interesting 😀
