There are theories suggesting that the Belldam was a human in the 1800s when the Pink Palace was built and that she was one of the original owners. Somehow, she found the other world and began to alter it to her will and began luring children to the other world, like a purple man in a rabbit suit asking children to follow him in an old pizzeria with animatronics that are about to gain some dead weight as a way to remain immortal. It’s possible the cat was also human at one point too.
You forgot to mention how the other mother could only replicate the house and a bit of the outside world, yet at the end of the movie you see Coraline going far beyond what she could replicate just fine

Actually in the book it is written that she actually went through that black door to the real world (her other mother and father said to her to come back soon) but she did not found her mum when she actually reached her real world. What if also because coraline stopped recognizing her as her mother and started seeing her as she was, a sneaky predator/spider. There's a question of whether or not the mom we see in the end is her real mom or not because we know that the other mother has more detailed disguises, but she also could've actually stolen the parents and other residents potentially. If that were the case, the boss battle could be read as forcing growth like... So my relationship with my mom has always sucked but I recently moved out against her wishes and moved back in with her and now our relationship has changed and we're kinda getting along. It was circumstantial but I made the decision of my own freewill and, whether or not things are any different, they feel different and I'm happier because of the trial. Actually, in the book when she first goes in the tunnel it is short, while when escapes she says the tunnel was way longer than before and was going uphill, like if it wanted to keep her inside.
Coraline did go back to her own world, and you can tell this by one big feature: buttons. Every single living thing in the Other Mother's world has button eyes since those are markers of her control over whatever has them. Because Coraline goes back to a world with no button eyes on anyone, that means she did return to her world after going to sleep and did escape the Other Mother by the end of the movie.
Adding onto this, I've seen theories that the cat is actually a different being than anything we know of. It can clearly traverse through worlds and can talk, which is odd. Plus, it immediately knew the mice in the other world were an illusion and tracked them down. Neither the other mother or anyone in the real world other than Coraline, that I'm aware of, never sees the cat or acknowledges it. Seems like it's possibly from another world entirely. One could assume this is just because it's "a kid's movie" (doubtful) and "every hero has an animal friend or sidekick" but I like to think the cat is from a different world.

Its the only time shes actually awake she even says sth like "I knew it was real" clearly hinting that the visits before have been some sort of dream. She won and she is free though. The other mother created what she though it would impress Coraline. In the scene where Coraline and the cat were walking she said that it was supposed to be a well there, it wasn't. Also, how would the om (other mother) be there if she was in her world, the door was locked and her hand was thrown in the well?? She wouldn't let Coraline and Wybie just throw her hand. Going out of the portal it's pretty logical and I personally thought (the 1st time I watched it) that she will go to her home this way. Probably has 2 or more ways to get out. Man I remember the first time I watched coralline I was traumatized, cause that was literally my WORST nightmare, not to mention just the way her parents and everything seemed to be I was almost crying

I do believe this. This is bc at the end of the movie, the cat seemed to disappear which seemed like he was using magic which would not be possible in the normal world. You also see the mirror illusion which means the other mother must be using magic in the “normal world” which I don’t think is possible. Also have you noticed that at the end of the movie when it zooms out on the garden it is in the shape of the bedlam whereas in the other world it is in the shape of coraline. Also at the start of the movie there is no leaves on the trees but at the end there is. The other world was never destroyed, the portals was only closed. But the cat even says that there's portals even the Beldam doesn't know about so they could very well stay open as she wouldn't be able to close what she didn't know existed. And how did the cat get to and from the other world without the door? We know he's been going there long before coraline unlocked the door and, in his lifetime, she would have likely have been the only person to open the door he gives many hints about his past times with her and how they play a "game" where she finds and closes the portal he used to keep him out. The portals are definitely still open. Whybie (or how you spell his name) would also never have come to save coraline from the hand (in the movie version as he didn't exist in the book or graphic novel) as the Beldam controls all the creatures like puppets. She wouldn't have brought him back after she killed him. And the grandmother is also proof. The Beldam wouldn't have made a copy of someone Coraline has never met and likely didn't even expect to come to their little garden party. Also the Beldam wouldn't have made her as she only focused on creating the immediate area, and didn't bother with anything else so the grandmother being there is proof of escape. For this theory to have stable ground, I think there needs to be more proof than "the parents seem off because her mom agreed with coraline" or "The portals are still open" (which makes perfect sense if you paid attention to what the cat says)
She can't be dead, the ghost children said that Coraline was in grave danger and that the beldam would stop at nothing to get the key. I think she's just regrouping and trying to figure out how to get the key to open the door again. With that being said, I would not want to go back there if I was the cat 😅

I also think the other mother had control of that exit as well. For the first two nights, Coraline was able to make it back to her world, but you’ll notice that as the other mother and father panned out of the scene, the other mother sat wherever the doll was in the old world. That’s how she “spied” on Coraline. And, on the third night, when the other mother told her about sewing buttons on her eyes, Coraline said that she wanted to go to bed right away. The other mother knew what was up, and she didn’t want to let Coraline go, so she may have fallen asleep, but she woke up still in the other world.

POV: Once she went to sleep in the other world she never really woke up. She is just dreaming and her mind keeps replaying endless universes and possibilities of what could’ve happened when she woke up, all of those things haunting her. While in reality, she is trapped in the room with the ghost girls, possibly laying in that bed then with them. Later on in the movie after she falls asleep, wakes up, etc, she even goes back in time to their show. (I forgot the name of those women) It shows an example of their past life as stunt women/whatev. Even the miCe guy looked older in reality, but when he’s shown doing his show, he looks a bit younger, and cleaner. More appealing and fun to trick a child. Those two examples of her mind and the belgim (Sorry don’t like I spelled that right) tricking her. Also another thing: when coralline goes back in time and watches their show, like I said earlier, they had better times then. Just like how she thought she wasn’t having better times there than the real world, but actually is. I’m sorry if this made no sense, please just try to figure it out.💀🙃👋😭
tbh i think her parents were different because before they were stressed about their work. And when coraline got back they had finished the garden catalog and it went well so they were prob less stressed. That would explain why the parents are acting different/nicer when coraline got back.
For me, the graphic novel actually freaked me out when I first read it. Plus the illustrations are on the realistic side, so it makes it more creepy. The dad in the movie was tame, in the gn, no, no and no. If they made that version, nightmares.
hi! i was pretty shocked when the cat was able to disappear while going behind the sign post..cause in the book when coraline was still in the other world, and was looking for the lost souls, the other mother actually started barricading the place with her power (the cat said this), and because of this, the cat said it couldn't easily go back and forth between the real world and the other world anymore

Actually, in the book when she first goes in the tunnel it is short, while when escapes she says the tunnel was way longer than before and was going uphill, like if it wanted to keep her inside.

Coraline did go back to her own world, and you can tell this by one big feature: buttons. Every single living thing in the Other Mother's world has button eyes since those are markers of her control over whatever has them. Because Coraline goes back to a world with no button eyes on anyone, that means she did return to her world after going to sleep and did escape the Other Mother by the end of the movie.

Adding onto this, I've seen theories that the cat is actually a different being than anything we know of. It can clearly traverse through worlds and can talk, which is odd. Plus, it immediately knew the mice in the other world were an illusion and tracked them down. Neither the other mother or anyone in the real world other than Coraline, that I'm aware of, never sees the cat or acknowledges it. Seems like it's possibly from another world entirely.
One could assume this is just because it's "a kid's movie" (doubtful) and "every hero has an animal friend or sidekick" but I like to think the cat is from a different world.

One weird thing to me at the end of the movie when it zooms out you can see the top of the garden, and the garden is in the shape of the beldam's head
actually in the book it’s said that the black cat can just travel through the worlds on his own, when coraline asks him in the book if he goes through the door he says no, disappears behind the tree, and then comes back to her a few moments later (not from the house) he’s always been able to do that, it’s how he gets in and out

In the book and film its mentioned the cat can travel between worlds so the cat disappearing doesn't mean much to support this theory.
I think she never escaped to, cause when the mom said: "you're right coraline, I really hate dirt" cause coraline told the other mother that her real mom hated dirt, and she said we love dirt here!, plus bobinsky and the other two were calling her by her right name

Coraline never really enters the other world until the third time. Its the only time shes actually awake she even says sth like "I knew it was real" clearly hinting that the visits before have been some sort of dream.
What further proofs this is that the other mother doesnt let Coraline escape as soon as she really enters also Coraline tried sleeping through it just like in her dreams but cause shes not sleeping it doesnt work.... Like folks come on theories are fun and all but this one just seems bulletproof.

She won and she is free though. The other mother created what she though it would impress Coraline.
In the scene where Coraline and the cat were walking she said that it was supposed to be a well there, it wasn't.
Also, how would the om (other mother) be there if she was in her world, the door was locked and her hand was thrown in the well??

Going out of the portal it's pretty logical and I personally thought (the 1st time I watched it) that she will go to her home this way. Probably has 2 or more ways to get out.
Moreover, Wybie's grandma appeared in the end ready to hear what Coraline has to say and she knew something was off because it happened with her twin sister.
There's a lot that can show that Coraline got back to the real world but there's a lot of theories too.

Uh, might wanna rethink this. You cant have it both ways.
I do believe this. This is bc at the end of the movie, the cat seemed to disappear which seemed like he was using magic which would not be possible in the normal world. You also see the mirror illusion which means the other mother must be using magic in the “normal world” which I don’t think is possible. Also have you noticed that at the end of the movie when it zooms out on the garden it is in the shape of the bedlam whereas in the other world it is in the shape of coraline. Also at the start of the movie there is no leaves on the trees but at the end there is. I believe that coraline never escaped the other world and is trapped and the other mother is ju st posing as her “real mother.”

The other world was never destroyed, the portals was only closed. But the cat even says that there's portals even the Beldam doesn't know about so they could very well stay open as she wouldn't be able to close what she didn't know existed.
And how did the cat get to and from the other world without the door? We know he's been going there long before coraline unlocked the door and, in his lifetime, she would have likely have been the only person to open the door he gives many hints about his past times with her and how they play a "game" where she finds and closes the portal he used to keep him out. The portals are definitely still open.
Whybie (or how you spell his name) would also never have come to save coraline from the hand (in the movie version as he didn't exist in the book or graphic novel) as the Beldam controls all the creatures like puppets. She wouldn't have brought him back after she killed him.
And the grandmother is also proof. The Beldam wouldn't have made a copy of someone Coraline has never met and likely didn't even expect to come to their little garden party. Also the Beldam wouldn't have made her as she only focused on creating the immediate area, and didn't bother with anything else so the grandmother being there is proof of escape.
For this theory to have stable ground, I think there needs to be more proof than "the parents seem off because her mom agreed with coraline" or "The portals are still open" (which makes perfect sense if you paid attention to what the cat says)
The other mother offered coraline to the other mother which is why wybie was never allowed in the pink palace...

My theory is that the bed is a secondary exit but you can’t use the bed like the wormhole
I also think the other mother had control of that exit as well. For the first two nights, Coraline was able to make it back to her world, but you’ll notice that as the other mother and father panned out of the scene, the other mother sat wherever the doll was in the old world. That’s how she “spied” on Coraline. And, on the third night, when the other mother told her about sewing buttons on her eyes, Coraline said that she wanted to go to bed right away. The other mother knew what was up, and she didn’t want to let Coraline go, so she may have fallen asleep, but she woke up still in the other world.
“Film theory” got me Laughing so hard lmao and it would be interesting for MatPat to cover this

Actually the reason why the mother says “you were right coralline I really hate dirt”is because coralline mentions that the rain is the perfect time to garden
The mice carried her through the portal back after she fell asleep. Life temporarily gets better. The cat in the end has always been magical.
The cat would warn her if it was the other world. He can only talk in the other world, but he didn't speak after she escaped. Meaning they are in the real world.

When the cat removes the other mothers eyes she hold them as if she can’t see. Also the other world IF YOU READ THE BOOK 🤦🏽♀️ has different entrances [portals if you will]throughout the real world that the mother can use to spy on coraline. The cat with his far superior senses can sense and use the entrances to jump between world. He “comes and goes as [he] pleases” 😊
She keeps going deeper Into the trap because when she wakes up she’s back in her world so she keeps going deeper and deeper so that she thinks she’s in her world but is now stuck in the other one forever

The beldam couldn't have posed as the real mother anymore because she was losing her control on her illusions and that's why she was SO desperate to catch coraline. As for the cat disappearing, idk. Once she went to sleep in the other world she never really woke up. She is just dreaming and her mind keeps replaying endless universes and possibilities of what could’ve happened when she woke up, all of those things haunting her. While in reality, she is trapped in the room with the ghost girls, possibly laying in that bed then with them. Later on in the movie after she falls asleep, wakes up, etc, she even goes back in time to their show. (I forgot the name of those women) It shows an example of their past life as stunt women/whatev. Even the miCe guy looked older in reality, but when he’s shown doing his show, he looks a bit younger, and cleaner. More appealing and fun to trick a child. Those two examples of her mind and the belgim (Sorry don’t like I spelled that right) tricking her.
Also another thing: when coralline goes back in time and watches their show, like I said earlier, they had better times then. Just like how she thought she wasn’t having better times there than the real world, but actually is.
I’m sorry if this made no sense, please just try to figure it out.💀🙃👋😭

tbh i think her parents were different because before they were stressed about their work. And when coraline got back they had finished the garden catalog and it went well so they were prob less stressed. That would explain why the parents are acting different/nicer when coraline got back.

For me, the graphic novel actually freaked me out when I first read it. Plus the illustrations are on the realistic side, so it makes it more creepy. The dad in the movie was tame, in the gn, no, no and no. If they made that version, nightmares.
hi! i was pretty shocked when the cat was able to disappear while going behind the sign post..cause in the book when coraline was still in the other world, and was looking for the lost souls, the other mother actually started barricading the place with her power (the cat said this), and because of this, the cat said it couldn't easily go back and forth between the real world and the other world anymore
