    Amazing how quickly Crouin has suddenly become a contender out of nowhere, beating huge names recently like Momen, Marwan, and Makin. His game reminds me so much of Thierry Lincou. Always happy to see a new star emerge on tour and I hope he keeps it going.

      I think it was the lack of competency on the part of the ref than skill on Marwan’s part. There are players like this who are well known, and the ref should take action in the very beginning of the match to keep it fair and free flowing.

    This format best of 3 until the semi finals works really well and should be used far more often. Too many tournaments last year were disappointing in the final rounds because of exhaustion and injury. Well done Nantes.

      Best of 3 format also allows upsets to happen early on in the tournament. Much harder to beat a better player over 5 games vs 3. Despite the best of 3 format, you could still see Marwan clutching his upper hamstring during the 5th.

  • @M0odez
    @M0odez Год назад +20

    Very impressive from Crouin, the sheer quality of his winning shots is at the very top level. He could have made it a lot easier if he just showed the effort to avoid interference with Marwan; you can't expose any blocking movement if you make no effort to avoid the space taken up by his shot anyway.

    • @michazawadzki3813
      @michazawadzki3813 Год назад

      The one at 7:35 was caused by Crouin though, he pushed Marwan towards the ball and didn't let him clear. So I would say sometimes it's no effort but also sometimes it's just fishing for strokes.

    • @M0odez
      @M0odez Год назад

      @@michazawadzki3813 I agree in either case; ultimately Crouin plays a loose shot and then doesn't avoid interference.

    • @ewallt
      @ewallt Год назад +3

      I think this is more the refs responsibility. Even though a point may be a no let because it’s too good, that doesn’t make blocking ok. The ref should be pointing this out and use devices like conduct warnings to make the player clear, or he’ll just keep blocking.

    • @M0odez
      @M0odez Год назад +1

      @@ewallt It depends on your view of "taking space" vs "blocking"; I think Marwan did a good job (100% deliberately, of course) of pushing "taking space" as much as he could within the rules.

    • @ewallt
      @ewallt Год назад +2

      @@M0odez A couple of times you could see him move into C’s line. Also you can take space until the nanosecond your shot ends, at which point you’re required to clear, and there were numerous cases where M made no effort whatsoever to clear.

    At least twice that I saw, immediately after Marwan plays that forehand drop, he makes a movement across to the right directly into the path of his opponent. 06:15 and 07:35

    • @ewallt
      @ewallt Год назад +3

      Yes, and the ref should make him stop.

    • @M0odez
      @M0odez Год назад +1

      Hey Stefan, the problems for Crouin and ultimately why I agree with the ref on both cases of no let are:
      1) Marwan's movements are mostly from momentum generated as he plays his own shot, putting his shoulder forward and extending his follow through in the direction that he wants the ball to go. In both cases, the movement isn't exaggerated to the point where you could definitely say it's not part of the technique, and it's mostly during his own shot rather than after his own shot.
      2) Crouin doesn't make any effort to avoid the interference. In both cases, he commits to an unrealistic line and he commits too soon (at 07:35, his hand is on Marwan before the shot is played), so irrespective of Marwan's actions interference will occur.
      Without a doubt Marwan knows what he's doing, but he is doing it fantstically well.

    • @adriantaylor365
      @adriantaylor365 Год назад

      Watch the footwork of marwan at 7:35. His left foot trailing onwards indicates that the momentum came from somewhere else. When moving right you would push off left. I didn’t see him do that. I think Victor takes/pushes him into the line.

    • @ewallt
      @ewallt Год назад +2

      Whether Marwan intentionally blocked is debatable, but that he made no effort to clear isn’t, and this happened many times just in this portion that has highlights. It’s hard to blame a pro for taking what the ref allows, so I think it’s on the ref to keep the game fair and free flowing.

    • @ewallt
      @ewallt Год назад

      It depends on whether the ref thinks the ball is too good in terms of awarding a let, but in any case the ref should have been making Marwan clear. For example, one can call it a no let but still issue a conduct warning.
