"I am Jaguar Paw, son of Flint Sky. My Father hunted this forest before me. My name is Jaguar Paw. I am a hunter. This is my forest. And my sons will hunt it with their sons after I am gone." Fun Fact: Many substantial speaking roles were filled by Mayan people who had never acted before. The sick girl, who curses the hunting party as they and the captives pass right before entering the city, was played by a seven-year-old who lived in a dirt-floored hut in a village similar to Jaguar Paw's (Rudy Youngblood). High Stunt Fact: For the waterfall jump scene, Rudy Youngblood jumped in a harness from a 15-story building in Veracruz over about 10 takes. The shot was digitally superimposed over the real waterfall later. After director Mel Gibson harassed Youngblood about his initial fear of jumping, Youngblood got together with the stunt crew and goaded Gibson into taking a jump himself. Historical Fact: Apocalypto (2006) is the answer to the extremely racist and historically inaccurate "Noble Savage" myth. The film is allegedly inspired by the text of the Popol Vuh (sometimes called the Mayan Bible) and Spanish missionary descriptions of the Maya. According to director Mel Gibson and co-writer Farhad Safinia's DVD commentary, the halting of the sacrifices at the onset of a solar eclipse is a carefully-timed ruse by the Mayan ruling class. As precocious astrologers, the Mayans used their knowledge of celestial phenomena to control the underclass.
The scale of Aztec human sacrifice is something that never gets talked about, but helps explain how just a few hundred Spanish could conquer the Atzec Empire by easily raising many many thousands of American allies.
Anything Mel Gibson is a good watch. Especially in pre colonial Mexico the Aztecs had the biggest civilization/most advanced they first discovered chocolate and were able to map stars and constellations in the sky. They were the most advanced in North America only other central/south American native empires could compete this movie is brutal and jaguar paw gets savage but in order to survive you had to be in pre tech times. Great vid yo 💯
There seems to be a short time delay from where he's at in the movie to where it shows movie is at. It takes away from the reaction so not finishing video. If there is a way of fixing so it matches up, I will come back and watch.
