The problem with "Ready to Rumble" is that its hero is not a wrestler but an actor, Oliver Platt. Platt is a good comic actor and I have liked him in a lot of movies, but here he is not well-used and occupies a role that would have been better filled by a real wrestler. That is demonstrated every time Diamond Dallas Page is on the screen, playing himself with such ferocity that Platt seems to be playing "Jimmy the King" in a key heard only by himself.

According to WWE's own website, the WCW/NWA world title can trace its lineage all the way back to 1904 with George Hackenschmidt. Over the years it was held by such legends as Lou Thesz, Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair. Truly the highlight of that belt's prestigious history was putting it on David Arquette to tie in with this cinematic masterpiece.

I'm not going to lie, I absolutely loved this movie when I was younger. I remember watching it with my brother and uncle, we died laughing.
Especially the part where he drinks the blue slurpee and sticks his finger in his rear-end, then takes it to the clerk and says "I think somethings wrong with my drink, I think I need a new drink". Granted I was only 10 when this came out. But, I went back and watched it recently and I still had quite a few good laughs. It's a nice ride on the Nostalgia train, taking me over 20 years back in time.

Also, I can see why you would prefer this film over The Wrestler, since the Wrestle seemed more like a character study piece that used wrestling as a vehicle to tell its story more so than a celebration of it. Ready To Rumble just felt like a celebration of pro wrestling and how fun and wild the storylines can be.

Me and my brother used to watch this taped on a VHS over an episode of "Boy meets world" when I was in elementary school... I remember it vividly because as soon as the triple cage match started, it would cut to Eric Mathews doing the Mr. Feeny call... fafafafeenyyyy😂 I loved this movie as a kid but hindsight surely doesn't make a good historian... This move as an adult may suck pond water bt the memories live on! R.i.p Scotty, I miss you brother more than you can imagine. Thanks wrestling bios, another banger video like always! 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

I am so happy to see I'm not the only one who loves this movie. I have a lot of fond memories of this movie. My uncle and I use to watch it on a monthly basis, and a month before he passed we watched it for the last time. We use to quote this movie constantly. Such good movies.
