    WWF: Our champion is getting top tier heat on TV with a challenger who is the most popular talent in the game right now

      @Roflcrabs 15 дней назад +1

      That's not true. Hogan, Sting, Flair, Nash, Hall and Sid.. then Norman. Which honestly for a guy who never left the mid-card, top 10 is damned impressive.

      @ I dunno man, Sting and Flair were baked in, Hall I don’t think was around enough and Nash wasn’t doing anything, the most significant thing they did was the NWO 2000 which was rotten, people were bored of Hogan even then from what I can see. Sid always had an aura about him though. DDP maybe but I dunno, Norman was pretty over, definitely top 10 as you say but I’d go as far as at least top 5

    The thing is, I figured Vince Russo would've done more damage to the WCW brand by this point, but he's only played a minimal role so far since he was only involved for a few months a while back. Doesn't mean he doesn't really F things up later, but I seem to recall WCW's downfall being more because of him at first than I remember.

    • @andrewstiegel9730
      @andrewstiegel9730 6 дней назад

      Russo didn't really kill WCW, he did however probably hasten its demise. What really killed WCW was the AOL/Time Warner merger. The new company had no interest in "wrasslin" and pulled all funding for the show. Even then Bischoff allegedly got a group together to fund the thing but AOL also pulled the TV time spot. Without TV WCW had no value and that was that. Russo was just a shitty booker which didn't help matters.

He could work a cruiserweight style, comedy matches and also do hardcore style and do all of it well. Plus his character could work as a face or a heel. Very underrated as a performer.

    The Harris Twins got consistent work because they were tall, built, and intimidating.
    But more importantly, because they were identical twin wrestlers. It's a pretty unique gimmick. How many other identical twin tag teams can you think of?
    The Beverly Brothers is the closest I can think of, and they weren't even really brothers.
    On top of that, they had friends who got into positions of power in WCW. That sort of networking never hurts.

      I suppose the Hebners. But that was a referee gimmick, and they only ever did it the once as far as I know.

    I yelled “Yapapi” when I opened YT and saw this posted…forgetting a plumber was in my kitchen working on our sink. Would have been 🔥 if he yelled back “the strap match?” Instead, I just got awkward silence.

    The final Uncensored PPV, which did so poorly that it apparently got outperformed by ECW's own PPV, Living Dangerously, that same month (& if WCW had to paper some of the seats for this show, ECW might have actually sold more tickets for LD '00, too).

    @WrestlingBios one “obscure” redeeming quality I have about this show was that WCW (specifically referee Billy Silverman) actually stuck with not allowing a stipulation change when Terry Funk announced that his match with Dustin Rhodes would now be an “I Quit” match.
    Considering the Uncensored 1999 main event, the Canadian Rules match at New Blood Rising, the Nitros where wrestlers who weren’t even in the match were getting pinned (Rick Steiner by Hulk Hogan when Sid Vicious was Wood From The Hood’s opponent) or doing the pinning (Roddy Piper on Goldberg when Bret Hart was Billy Boy’s opponent), wrestlers pinning their own tag team partner in a standard tag team match and the referee ACTUALLY counting the fall (Sid on Hogan), Kevin Nash running the New Blood Gauntlet where Slick Johnson (who was supposed to be AGAINST the Millionaire’s Club) counted falls on guys Nash had jackknife powerbombed but NOT pinned, Sid’s “winning streak” when he was losing every house show match he had SOON AFTER they started promoting it on TV (and already had DQ losses on TV), and even the main event of THIS show, I was pleasantly surprised.
    The Funker must’ve still thought he was WCW Commissioner, or something…
