    - Improper shape in your vowels
    - Lack of vocal confidence.
    These are challenges that most singers, no matter their skill level, have had to deal with at some point or another.
    And today, Lisa will teach you the right exercises and techniques to tackle these issues and show you how, with just a little bit of work, you can finally sound good when you sing!

    Wonderful tips. I'm someone who is just starting to fool with singing in my 50s. I've played and shared my piano playing with friends for years and now I feel its time to try this. Right now I'm not very good but have seen a few little improvements here a there and with help like yours will help me get even better at it. Its all fun. took me long time to get as far with the piano as I am, I would imagine the voice is about the same idea and probably will pay off. Keep up the good work.

    I grew up in a house where singing wasn't allowed and carried a punishment. In music class at school I couldn't even open my mouth. So then I would get in trouble at school. I could not physically get myself to sing the scale for the teacher to place me soprano or alto , I would have thrown up. Now Ive spent my whole adult life with an ear bud or radio on, and I do sing, but am still terrified of being heard(caught) except alone in my car. Its makes me feel so happy and free and even safe. I think I sound good at times and absolute crap at others. This has helped me so much. I am 57 now. I feel such tightness in my throat and I feel like its permanent and that idea kills me. An ear bud goes in my ear from the minute I get up, and music is on all day, I even sleep with music. I think its my drug, an addiction actually with some need to someday be able to not hush to a whisper if my husband walks in. He is loving ,kind and sweet and sings on and off, but I can't shake the terror of being heard, not even humming. Any suggestions to get past this?

    • @charmainedsa
      @charmainedsa Год назад +12

      Aww I'm so sorry this happened to you. Singing is wonderful but you're unconsciously associating it with danger. I'm not a vocal coach but I'll try helping you. Try to find a place where you feel safe, where you feel free to sing and start from there. That might help you losen up your throat and you will find it easier to find your natural voice. Once you feel comfortable singing in your safe place whether it's your car or in your room or out in nature, wherever it is. You will find it easier to sing anywhere. You could then try singing along with your husband. It will be hard at first but he being there for you and singing with you will make it easier. This will help you feel safe in singing in front of someone and letting them hear your beautiful voice. Slowly but surely, you'll win over your fears! You can do this!! I believe in you!

    • @myleerose31866
      @myleerose31866 Год назад +11

      @@charmainedsa Thank you for the confidence. I finally told my husband why I go for so many car rides, he gave me a gas card and told me to remember to use the air-conditioning...lol. But sing with him? Umm no. We've been together for 32 yrs and I've tried a few times and my voice cracks to pieces. But I sang in the car to my 2yr old grandson today and didn't die, so that is encouraging. I would like to be able to do all their lessons one day . They are fun and make the exercises seem easy. I don't do well with recording myself either, although it is very useful to hear progress..but my elderly mother lives with us now, so singing at home no longer happens. I have to do the warm ups over and over in my car to release the tension. I haven't gone through all the videos they have, but would like some recommendations for warm ups. I can't do bubbles if my life depended on it, but find the puffy cheeks and straw seem to make some of the tension in my throat let up a bit, til I walk in the house.

      I delt with similar fear for me just due to my anxiety it’s still something I struggle with but it’s slowly getting better with exposure therapy not like actual therapy you can replicate the idea of exposure therapy at home pretty easily all you have to do is get yourself used to the thing that makes you uncomfortable in small doses start off with small things that make you a little uncomfortable but a manageable amount of it and slowly work yourself up to the things that seem impossible now

    That first one was legit kinda mind-blowing. I thought power and volume go hand in hand and as a shy person, singing loud isn't overly appealing so this is a big adjustment already!
    Second step too really helped me get the clarity I Was searching for too! My insecurities make it really hard for me to feel secure and confident behind my singing so I knew that one was gonna be an obstacle. It really does make such a huge difference.

    when i listen to recordings of me singing, all i hear is lazy and disgusting singing - i hit the notes no sweat but for some reason i just hate the sound of it.. when i hve my headphones on i feel like im singing so beautifully along to a song and then when i hear the recording of my singing, it sounds so awful and lazy.. meaning that i dont really "articulate(?)" the words enough. It almost sounds like the words are being mushed together creating one big and fat disharmony :(

    One disagreement...Adele's hard glottal stops and air pops at words beginning with vowels, and vocal fry, along with busy touring, led to vocal injury.
    We vocalists do emulate others already, quite a bit, so it is important to understand the baseline. Sure, add that stuff when you understand it, but PLEASE , singers, don't use abusive techniques for every song.
    I had tiny nodes long ago from smoky bars, and one of my recovery techniques was to listen to pleasant singers only, because our very folds respond to it.

    Ive practice many technique like tongue trill and stuff but I still sound bad,
    and all my friends and peers says its because I'm just not use to my voice thus I think it sound bad.
    which isnt true! I know what I sound like! I know when I sound good or bad, and its not related to confidence issue!
    I really need technique training and this video shows me its not always about the emotional side of singing that needs
    work! It's technique!
