Insane. I don't think it's possible to grasp a sub 3min/km pace until you've tried to run it for any amount of time. I'd be lucky to hold that pace for 400m on a good day. Incredible stuff.
I've kept that pace for an 800m once. Maybe I could somehow have hung on to it till 1km. Nothing more than that though. I've done 11:10 in the 3000m which felt like death. Can't imagine doing it more than 2 mins faster and then hanging on for another 2km.
What a joy to be able to run on that beautifully flat, long straight path at the start there, in the crisp, fresh air. I know you work hard, and I know you also appreciate it.
Epic Nick. Don’t worry the lead Marshal will now know your name 😂 I’m 49 in a few weeks and pushing for sub 20. I think individuals like yourself are encouraging others in a positive way . Hats off 👍
I've been out of action for 5+ months from injury and really struggling to find any motivation, binging your vids definitely makes me start getting that itch to get out again
100% same here. 3 year leg injury. Consistency and patience are the key I think. I'm seeing signs of hope. Good luck and hope you can get out there soon.
Well done, I saw on my news timeline you had the fastest UK Parkrun for the start of the New Year, great running, and a great start to what we hope will be a great year for you, Boomshakalaka 👍
The crazy thing is, the other runners look like they're jogging, but so does Nick?! It looks like they're going the same speed when you watch them from the 3rd person view, yet Nick is going 2x faster.
Omg the temptation to just shout ‘COMING THROUGH!’ You should come to Scotland for our parkruns where they post on Facebook after about how busy it was if there’s more than 200 runners 😂
Oh my lord that looks so congested! I've got a 10k RunThrough race at Battersea next month. It's going to be absolute carnage on the 3rd and 4th laps... Was hoping to go sub 35 for the first time, but unless the organisers have a method to set aside space for the runners on different laps, looks like it could be a stressful challenge
its a little funny how i would crave after high-resolution exorbitant over-the-top cgi movies and video games & whatnot in my teens but in my mid 20s i love this authentic website more than any other entertainment, thanks RUclipsrs :)
Love these videos Nick, they are the best running content on YT. Congratulations for not hitting anyone on the way to the finish line, I'd be frustrated for sure with such unpredictable traffic! Love that you give the 5K and 10K the love they deserve. I admit, I am put off with the "trendiness" of running marathons nowadays (which I see as a massive overkill for the vast majority of people). Speed is more exciting. As if Le Mans 24hrs was ever more popular than F1!
Yeah I find training for shorter distances gives me more energy and focus in general life, training for marathon burns me out. 1 marathon a year max for me. I love them but they take their toll
Absolutely brilliant video right from the start when someone got told off. 📹😂Ed didn't look too happy coming 2nd too you 😂he will be back.. 😳...the guy from OZ was so lovely....Boooooommmsshhaaakkaalllakkka onto the next one Nick... Let's gooooooo....🏃🏻♂️😊x.......shout out too J MILLS...😊x
I had a 10km with the slow people form the 4k on my way like these people in your video and injured my hip in dec2023 so many collisions I had to avoid, man! And I was running 03:20ish/km (33min 10k), imagine avoiding all those people in 20km/h pace, insane finish!
Nick, did you know that J Mills from Crown My Run was about 3 rows back at the start, and his goal was to try to keep up with you as long as possible! He failed! Because he was 3 rows back, he didn’t get to stay with you, people got in his way, and he had to change his strategy to running his best time possible, which he did with a PB! If you don’t know Crown My Run, look those guys up: brilliant running content!
@ there’s a marathon just outside Montreal that many people use to qualify for Boston. It’s on a slightly downhill section of an old rail bed (now paved), basically downhill for all 42.2km. May be the fastest course in existence if you’re looking to break 2:19
I dont know for sure cause ive never been to this park but if the parkrun route is to the left, then going around the other way especially being the only person to do so and ending up in first afterwards... small bit cheeky, but still its just a fun parkrun.
Great video .. great running....it makes me cringe to see the runners all over the place...keep left & allow room for overtakers...Nick has got great patience to weave through them all..👍👍
Well done, so close to sub 15. I think Ed lost time on the final bandstand. It was a good decision to take it on the right. Steve Magness has a great video on nasal breathing, in which he showed the science says nasal breathing is good for your health, but does nothing for performance during running.
Steve Magness on his youtube channel did a in-depth look at the science of nose breathing and for 'full send' mode nose breathing is a waste of time! Great run Nick!
Don't worry about nasal breathing. The great coach Steve Magness has a video on his YT channel that explains why it's irrelevant for performance improvement whether you breathe through the nose or your mouth. I personally breathe with the nose for easy runs up to light tempo. The advantage for me is that I don't get a sore throat in winter with the cold air, and I know I'm in control as long as I can breathe with the nose, so that gives a psychological help.
I actually haven’t planned a next attempt but it’s never good to go too long without a full send ;) I’m doing Farnham HM on the 9th of Feb. So perhaps before or after that

Whenever there is 1 second, or a short time between finishers, I think it's so unlikely that both of your best would have been 1 second between. Which makes me think at least one of you could have done a bit better. It's the same with longer distances, you see the top 2 are seconds between each other. I think people speed up or slow down based on those around them. They've got more in the tank I'm sure.
@@justalilbester I believe 100% you can break sub 15. Imagine if that guy was just a tiny bit quicker, would it have pushed you that extra 0.5%? I know it's painful, keep up the hard work! I'm looking forward to the future Battersea Park runs, looks a nice course.

Aim for small win, after small win 🎯 and you’ll be surprised what you can get to!
Nick Bester running with Jody Mills commentary would be awesome!
Yes, having watched J Mills in the same race, but a bit further back, lol, it could be a good match up!

Lovely to hear and running has no age! PB’s coming up at 50 😜 go get it!!
Agreed. My dream is to meet Nick at a parkrun one day. Just out of the blue.
“Man with camera please” 😂😂😂
The most power she's ever felt.

What an effort Nick such a solid performance. 🎉😎
You are increbible you make this video so good and I still dont know how you are so fast
Thanks 🫶🏻🫶🏻 we keep working! Onwards and upwards!
Practice, dedication, a love for the grind. He started as a 25 minute parkrunner. He's put in a lot of consistent work.
Love this Nick. parkrun is for all. Race, casual run, walk. I choose race. Have a great year mate 🎉
That’s what it’s all about. And you really get that feel at parkrun. Long may it continue 🫶🏻

Looking forward to your journey this year 😊
My heart rate went up just watching this… true story😮💨. Nice one.
You and me both! 📈🤣
Awesome battle, well done man with the camera!
You win some, you lose some! We’ll take it 🙌🏻
So humble crossing the line at full speed and then congratulating others still running. Brilliant 👍🏼
6am start for a 9am park run? The commitment is as impressive as the running. Great vid as always
Was definitely worth it in this occasion. Dam train cancellations, country life problems!
Working through the other runners and dogs stresses me out lol. I like how you got called out while nobody else follows instructions.
Great race with a lovely kick at the end!
