Bob Dylan Playing Piano Somewhere in England (Don't Look Back Outtakes - 1965)

- Here's an interesting morsel of footage for all you Dylanites. This was filmed in the breakroom of an unknown venue somewhere along Dylan's 1965 tour of England. Another sequence of Dylan playing piano at another venue was famously used in the final cut of "Don't Look Back" (14:25 in this video: • All of Bob Dylan's per... ) but this sequence was banished to the outtake reel. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy a few months back. Here is the alternate piano scene! Enjoy this gem while you can.
For so many reasons, this is extremely peaceful. Just how his voice drones in and out and the piano plays a somber but relaxed tone; almost reminds me of something alike to a daydream. Much thanks, Swingin' Pig.
Any footage from this tour of him at the keys is ethereal
Brilliant stuff. I've always found it remarkable when he just feels around for a song and plucks it out of the aether. "I'm Not There" is probably the most well-known instance of him doing this, just finding the basic melody and tone and using nonsense filler lyrics.
See also (and on piano) Patty Gone to Laredo, a 1975 song he works out with dummy lyrics then drops for ever.
You’re doing a fine, fine job sir
You might have. These aren’t impossible to find. It might have been on RUclips years ago.
Thanks Swingin’ I love those pieces of unique peeking thru into Dylans’ free playing. ❣️🌺
This clearly shows that Bob was and is looking for his best
whether it's Dylan, or John Lennon or Paul...they seem to have piano skills...
Not every kid grew up to be Dylan, or Lennon, or McCartney, obviously, or Starr, even - but a lot more kids in the 1950s were forced to learn piano, I suspect.
Dylan, though, seemed to have more chops, at least compared to Lennon.
Dylan was a force to be reckoned with.
Really brings to mind Tom Waits.
Rosie right?
I’m not very familiar with Tom Waits’ stuff so just listened to Rosie as you mentioned, and I presume that’s specifically the one I was really hearing in my mind’s eye, so to speak. Very reminiscent of each other! Thanks.
that's awesome! Im glad that you listen to it :)

Wow this is like Xmas! I don't know how I missed this video but I sometimes do and when I discover it or stumble on it it really is the best surprise! I really love these fly on the wall backstage clips a lot, it's like peeking into the past at someone's private little moment. In this case Dylan appears to be in some kind of zone just playing around on the piano possibly in the midst of a song being born.
Thanks Swinging!!!
Hurray!!! Wow this is a true thrill! Thanks so much Swingin’ you are quite the Dylan prospector to find the gold nugget! ♥️😎🌟
Great quality! Thank you for sharing this piece of Bob with us.
Shot between 1965 and 1966. Backstage before a concert. He has not buttoned up his shirt yet. Right around the time I saw him at the cleveland music hall on november 12,1965.
neer seen this before it's really a wonderful gift thnaks ♥♥♥
Just made it here, Sun AM What a lovely quiet, snowy, warming listen. Thanks as always
Thank you,as always! I've been looking for it for a long time! It's astonishing
So precious...cant quite make out t words, but t ( je ne se quoix) mood..( not quite gospel-- not quite blues) more like Surity & Stregnth) but, sounds like he is singing true worship (& Knowing..& SRENGTH with thanksgiving..& a gratefulness.for t long journey, but Notalone, Not abandoned...a Truly Sacred song to & for him. Thank you for this Blessed Share. Grateful
Thank you for the always great uploads!
it always blows me away how these snippets of him just practicing and fiddling around sound like some gorgeous song. looks like the audio is a little out of sync though, lags a half-second behind the film
Really touching. Thank you 💖
More of these Rare footage vids please!

HAPPY 79th BOBBY!
This could be (only could be) at the Backstage Town Hall (Birminghan ) before concert ... Why ? Well I suposse that the woman is on the background is Marianne Faithfull who in that time was with Dylan . And the song , well when i've heard for first time only came in my mind I'll Keep it With Mine (acoustic version ) ... but a good friend of mine (another Dylan crazy fan) that is here with me say that I'm old and my ears are overdubbed with thousand melodies thru the years .... maybe he's right
Your old overdubbed ears are not alone!
It does have the same feel as I'll keep it with mine, but I think it's another song he's just trying to pin down. Sometimes he is in a different world from the rest of us, and that is where the songs come from.
"I'll Keep it With Mine" is what I thought too...I agree with your ears, or my ears do...even, hearing again sounds like a combin. of several songs, making it feel even better than first listen
The woman in the clip isn't Marianne Faithfull, it's Jones Alk. She's recording the sound. Also seen in Don't Look Back, notably sitting next to Dylan during the interview with the Time magazine reporter ("You've got a lot of nerve asking me a question like that. Do you ask the Beatles that?")
The point is what exactly Dylan is playing and the venue itself , have u an idea ? (poor Marianne , she was never where she was supossed to be)
Thank you!!!!!👏👏👏👏🎶
There's not a single word that I can understand, what the heck is he singin'?
Michał Armata Words don’t matter, he’s working on a melody
something is happening..and you don't know what it is..
@@nitrousnine do you Mr Jones?
Actual iPad pic lovely just can't send this way just now beach was on Sunday. Now it's feckin winter
Melancholy to the limit friend I need a quick slug after that. 😎 Epic
Sound like Blowin in the wind. I could hear his singing and a bit of lyrics were from that song
Anyone know what chords approximately ?
Love ❤️ it
Was this clip pulled from the Criterion Collection Blu-Ray of Don’t Look Back ?
JimmyJazz332 It was not. I don’t think they have it, but I’m not 100% sure. I ripped this from a bootleg tape.
Swingin’ Pig ah ok. The Criterion Collection version seems to have everything so I just assumed it was within it.
Also that's his wife sitting next to him. Sara
Amazing find! I can't really make out the lyrics, is this improvised or a cover? I've been trying to get a hold of every original composition of his from this time not featured on his studio albums.
Mike TheGamerGuy I’m assuming it’s just an improvised bit. He did that a lot.
@@SwinginPig That makes sense, by the way you wouldn't happen to have an extended version of the piano scene that was used in "Don't Look Back" would you? Thanks for all your hard work.
Mike TheGamerGuy I do not, unfortunately. I don’t think an extended version exists. They probably shot was used, I’m assuming. And thank you for watching my vids. Glad you’re enjoying them 😊
I saw an interview with the guy who filmed it once and he said when asked what song it was dylan replied " have you ever seen someone write a song?" ..you can find it on utube I'm sure it's in one of the doc's out there.
The best
Maaan … whatre these chords? Anyone know?
❤❤❤❤❤
Legend...
Love it
Really sounds like Tom Waits’ Rosie
Not Sean that before
I swear I've seen this video before
What song did this become?
woow
don't know what song this is????
Kinda sounds like 'every grain of sand', maybe the song came back to him in a flashback 🤣
I'll keep it with mine??
It sounds similar to Ricky Nelsons "Garden Party" which mentions Dylan. I know they both really admired each other. Perhaps Dylan gave him the melody since he never used it.
Interesting idea
What song is he playing ?
Namoratron No idea. Some original. Just jamming with his mind.
I don't think we will ever know what song it was, even Bob wouldn't remember now
If I were a piano….
Sounds like Gospel Bob

Sorry, I redact my statement. I read your description. I had this recording for many years and thought maybe you took it from my channel. I've been trying to get the original video that went along with it to no avail
@@1988tecate4rida Ah, gotcha. No prob. Here’s the video! Cheers :)
