I have a strong suspician that the majority of sheep farmers are at a similar level of tech literacy, you are giving them real user experince feedback on a working farm. You are a precious resource. Your concern that your sheep have water before being shipped is one of the many reasons I love your channel. I love Marc's woodworking skills, the cabin is beautiful. I will keep Jess in my daily intentions through her surgical journey.

I was thinking that a low level tech user would be even more valuable to FlockWatch 🤔
If they can make the app simple for the LEAST experienced user, they end up with a VERY good product 👍
Plus, the fact that Sandy is guiding them towards an operating system that mirrors another commonly used system, like Gallagher, this also makes it that much more user friendly & desirable.
Little sux more than having to learn an entirely new system to do the exact same tasks 😮‍💨

Initial users that are willing to work with the data geeks 🙋‍♀️ are absolute GOLD! Remember it’s not that you are learning a new system, you are teaching the system designers what is important in your business. The very most valuable information is when you say, “I wish…”. If you can slowly go through one sheep and one group and one cycle, (vlogging as you do anyway) identifying the data you need on each ewe, lamb, and ram, they can give you what you need and how you need it. Your farm perfect for modeling since you are so hands on!

Nailed it! Software developers and analysts don't always know what is going to be important to the farmers and ranchers. They may think that all that is needed is A,B,C, but what is really needed is A 1,2,3,4, and D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L, also with tabs. They also need to make it so that the app is easy and intuitive to use as the farmers or ranchers are working the livestock. Who wants to think about program origami when concentrating on keeping yourself and livestock safe while working them? Actually, I think that software should be tested more often by computer illiterate people. It will only make the software better as a whole. It's a great selling point to let people use the product and they instantly understand it.

Sandi, I am a retired software developer and believe me you are exactly what they need to make the system work. They don’t want someone to give them technical feedback. They want and need feedback from users in the “barn”. Look at it this way they are technical but have no idea what you do with your sheep. If you put the technical people in the barn and said hoof trim these ewes, they wouldn’t have the foggiest idea what that meant. You are a sheep farmer not a software developer. Keep up the good work! ❤

There's a reason, on full display by the Brocks, why most successful inventors have farming somewhere in their backgrounds. It's because such a broad spectrum of knowledge and technologies is involved. Crop management, drainage, plumbing, animal husbandry, mechanic, carpentry, electrical, welding, home making... The list is endless. They're under constant pressure to manage flora and fauna, with all the machinery required by volume of production. If something breaks or isn't doing the job the farmer is the front line of fixing it. Anything that saves time is a constant factor driving them to iterate and modify. When it comes to the rarest commodity, leisure time, they have to be just as creative. If you can't even spare an afternoon to drive 45 minutes to a lake cabin: bring the cabin closer to home... Even if you have to mill the lumber to build it yourself.

Saying a prayer that all went well with Jess's surgery. Sandi, you are the one that turned us on to the Gallagher system for our sheep. We aren't a big producer but it made our lives so much easier. Before it was clipboards and paper forms to fill out. Some people don't write legibly and it was me trying to read their sloppy writing. Then putting it all into the computer for the association that we had belonged too. The Gallagher system made that so much easier. We never said THANK YOU, but I will now, RIGHT NOW. No more clipboards hanging where they get wet, slopped on, chewed on and trying to find a pen that never stays with clipboard. The 'magic wand' is always with the lambing kit. And our lives are so much for the better. THANK YOU AGAIN....
Whatever you are doing with FlockWatch is improving it so that others that come after you, will be able to use it with less problems. Thank you. Have a great week Brock family 🙏🙏🐑🐏❄️❄️ stay warm.

Yes! Being able to articulate a need is priceless. It's a valued ability in all things but especially in this case when, perhaps, others aren't and the developers are much more able to understand what you're saying and needing and perhaps because of you they're able to understand the need that another farmer wasn't as able to relay.

Sending thoughts & prayers for Jess, her surgeon & all of you for a safe, successful, quick surgery & a fast recovery that is as comfortable as possible.🙏🏼🤞🏻❤️‍🩹 As someone with many chronic health issues who has had multiple surgeries(including 3 abdominal/pelvic) & Im likely having major knee surgery soon…Im familiar with all the nerves & recovery. I wasn’t able to have kids but…my husband just had knee surgery in early Jan & is just now mostly back on his feet. I’m also caregiver for my mom who lives with us. Prior to becoming disabled I was a paramedic & ER nurse so literally all my family & friends call me with questions & ask me to be there when any of them or their kids have surgery. Or with any other medical concern/question.
-Which all my friends’ kids call me either their aunt or 2nd mom. Also bc my brother who is 17yrs older than me married early there is only 5-11yrs between me & my 7 nieces/nephews…all but 1 of whom are married with at least 4 kids. Meaning as of now I have 26 great-nieces/nephews! So I may not have kids of my own…but I have a ton of kids I love as if they were!

Prayers for Jess, you and Mark. My daughter is 40 yrs. old and I still worry about her. You are a very loving and caring Mom. I am sure everything will be ok.
Alrighty then, now on to your vinyl flooring. I installed the same type of flooring in our Cottage in 2006. I love the old wide planks for the farm house look. It looks like we just installed it. People always say it looks so beautiful and that it must of been expensive. Here is a tip for cutting. Use a clean, new fine tooth saw blade made for cutting vinyl planks. If you notice breakage or splintering, change your blade again. I ended up using a knife to cut my flooring, because I didn't have the right sawblades. Good luck, I can't wait to see the finished flooring!

Thanks for the great video. Don't get down on yourself. You are doing excellent. You are helping other end users. Developers get so into it that they just take alot for granted. I know what you mean. My older brother is a great programmer but he makes me feel really stupid. It hurts my feelings. I have to remind him that I am 68 years old and didn't have to use computers hardly at all in my previous profession. He has to dumb down the computer language and I can get it. So sorry to hear about Jess needing surgery again. I will keep you all in my prayers. Have a great day

Think about flogwatch like this: you are SO LUCKY that they change or adapt everything you need!!! I worked in finance al my life and had to work with standard programs. If we wanted something altered or changed it would cost the company a lot of money, it would take ages or it would not happen at all .... and we still had to work with the program anyway...
So how nice is it that you can design a program to your wishes!!! That you can call a guy, he helps you and it doesn't cost you a fortune. Lucky girl 😃

I’m sooo tired right now but watching this was a perfect reprieve from my stressed mom brain ♥️
There was a horrible event last night that hit too close to home (we are all ok) and I didn’t sleep a wink until the sun was up. Now I’m tired and sore from sleeping all wonky when I finally did close my eyes. My youngest (8) curled up with me at some point and now she’s watching Moana while I watch Sandi and her merry band of mischief makers (the sheep 🐑). Totally able to relate to Carissa closing her eyes while sitting on the hay bale.
Now I just wait to see who was involved last night and how it may affect my kiddos when they get back to school tomorrow. Hugs and support to all the adults out there loving and raising kids!

There’s actually huge value in the development process in being able to break the app, or articulate what you want that’s not already included, or not being able to find the way to do things that they’ve technically put in already. Because somebody else IS going to have the same problem, and the sooner they hear from somebody who can articulate the problem, the sooner they can fix it.
My hubby works in web development, and has done beta testing of both websites and apps, and folks really value him for that because he’s REALLY good at finding things that break when “dumb end users” do random weird stuff that the developers never even thought of. Like, it’s a legit valuable job skill for him that he’s good at breaking apps and websites!

Helping them tweak it to track what you need is just part of feedback to make the app as perfect as possible for you to run the best sheep operation possible ❤
