Two for heaters and a third as a spare just in case he stops selling them. The additional level of control is phenomenal. the biggest selling point is the ability for it to automatically adjust the fuel pump rate to meet demand instead of needing to manually adjust it or use the heater in the default high-low mode which overheats small spaces.
u can control the fuel pump pulse rate using the original controller, it just takes a bit more programming, and the benefit doesn’t really outweigh the haggle. Only advantage i see with afterburner is as IoT device to control ur heater from anywhere thru internet, which is an overkill for a camper!
@@peacewarrior9500 no. You can set a fixed pump rate that stays where you put it. If the temperature drops at night the output of the heater stays the same and the temperature inside drops until you wake up and increase the pump speed. The afterburner will run it up and down as needed to maintain a stable temperature automatically. The Chinese controllers cannot do this.
I take it I’m right in thinking you can’t convert a non remote control heater to be remote and then use one of the controllers you recommended? Or is there a wired version available? I didn’t prioritize a remote version when I got mine as the wired heater control is always within reach in my set up. Edit; Just searched it and got the answer. Looks like it will will as I have one of the compatible controllers on it already. I think it might be more complicated than my limited tech abilities can cope with, though.
@@MapleMarmite it can't be done like that, no. It's really simple to set up. The manual makes it seem far worse than it is. 95% of what's in the manual you'll never need. There's also a good Facebook group full of info to help with anything you need. And it only works with certain main boards in the heaters so if you're interested you'll need to check the manual for compatibility before buying one. Ideally before even buying the heater.
@@MastaSquidge You’re right, the pulse rate can be changed to a fixed value, in order to conserve fuel, not necessarily fine-tune the thermostat. But either way, i still think the afterburner is an overkill for a camper!
Also if you make a checklist for yourself for the essential if you’re going to need every time you leave, you can always check out things as you pack them. Make one laminated leave it in the truck that way every time you can check off everything you need as you pack it

As someone from the south (north of Atlanta, Ga) the sight of snowfall in mid-April is mind boggling to me. Down here we get snow once a year if we’re lucky, not even every year, and if we’re lucky it’s maybe 2-3 inches. And people forget how to drive from such minor snowfall down here in the south. And it makes the entire state pretty much shut down like an apocalypse. *EDIT* : Mav, I LOVE the overhauled, rebuilt camper setup! That is amazing and infinite times better than what you had before. I’ve wanted to build a setup just like this in the back of my tundra 6.5ft bed for months now and seeing this setup is making me get ready to pull the trigger finally and build my setup!!! Love the heater thats out of the way. I am going to try and find a way to have a cubby similar to that for a heater, that I can also utilize as a space to place some sort of A/c or cooler vent for the hot summer months too and utilize a space to be able to place a heater for winter, and remove it and place a small A/C for summer months!!! Love you, Mav. KEEP ON TRUCKIN!!!

I was worried about the leg room but I feel better after seeing you have same...I was thinking I made a mistake but it's not for "living in"...like that build!!
I love this build-makes me want to truck camp when I don’t even know the first thing. (other than what i’ve learned from watching your channel for 8 months 😂) Keep on truckin’.

You’ve inspired me to look at what to do with my truck. Brilliant design. Really enjoyed watching the build in the previous video. I’m a new sub as of last week. Watching as many videos as possible to be caught up. Very impressive channel and ideas for project builds. ❤️
Dude, the new setup is bad ass, so much more functional. Like you said about the air fryer, probably better to cook the food in seperate layers onions and veg, than meat, than add the crispy taters and cheese. I'm really happy you went ahead and made the changes to your setup! Also, yes I am def interested if you wouldnt mind making a video about your battery setup, im contemplating doing something similar with my F150, I dont need power for heat but maybe a portable A/C or a nice fan because I live in the south where its more tropical than anything else. I would definitely like to power a laptop, and air fryer for sure. was thinking about getting one of those all in one ninjas like foresty has in his setup. anyway, if you wouldnt mind, im very interested. take care and stay safe.

Mav, I don't comment hardly at all, although I love your video's but...THIS one, you smiled SOO MUCH! in this video, in a lot of the others it just seemed like you were doing a job, pushing through, but in this one you were happy, glowing even, LOVED IT! This new set up is amazing and I was very impressed with the cooking as I didn't know that lil ole air fryer could do so much lol. Can't wait to see more :)

Hi Mav! I mounted my diesel heater (and pump) under my car, between the rear tires. And yes, even though it is outside of the vehicle, I still hear it at night. But as it is a regular constant sound it doesn't bother me and although it could seem annoying, well.. you'll get used to it 😀
Honestly I hadn’t been so into the truck camping videos, but this new setup feels totally different. I think I realised it felt to cramped in the old setup, but this feels so much nicer! Excited for ya Mav :)
God bless you Mav!! Happy to see this new video, yes the truck setup is WAAAY better!! You inspired me to build one too! mav, lets hear some more about how the battery situation is, how did you connect the batteries together and make it so the starting battery doesn't draw power?
Thanks for the video, Mav. Never disappoint. Also great to see you like the new setup. Always room for improvements and tweaking so I’m sure we’ll see some stuff changed up throughout. Thanks again. 🙌🙌
As a native Minnesota guy, I appreciate that you got it right and said “hotdish”, cuz I live in Wisconsin now where these heathens say “casserole”. The cream of mushroom soup goes over the meat so the tots stay crispy. 😉 Also, I appreciate that you’ve stared cutting an onion the proper way.
I love how you improvised!! Casseroles are so good and easy!! My personal favorite also uses cream of mushroom but I use cream of chicken… 1/2 can on bottom, chicken breast chunks, Swiss cheese slices, other 1/2 can, broccoli then box stuffing on top! Even better the 2nd day!!!
Love the vids.... I'll be a broken record.... Don't speed it ain't worth it you'll get there just fine going the speed limit or just a couple miles over lol... If you have 100 miles to travel going 10 miles over the limit only saves you a couple minutes by the end! Keep that money in your pocket and don't risk the license. Cool the officer was a viewer though
i was expecting a bit more than an 8 second, two sentence summary of the new setup at the end there, but i got the jist from you wishing you did it sooner 😂definitely looks more effective than the last. good work my man, onwards and upwards 👍
I think he means, like how was the first night in it? Did the charger under his head keep him up? Was he warm throughout the night? That kinda stuff. I feel that way. He spent 15 minutes leading up to the first night in the truck, and then it was like, “I’m up. Talk to ya all later. Bye” it was pretty quick ending.
Considering that I am not living out of rig I am pretty much close to it. Thanks for advice and ideas but most of all the smiles you give me for the day👍
Loved the long build video man, got me all excited for my channel. I’m looking for an enclosed trailer now to build out for trips! Thanks for all the frequent uploads your killing it! Stay Inspiring!!!
Hey Mav and co, how important is having windows in your truck camping setup? I have a truck cap off of a worktruck (solid aluminum, no windows/vents) that I've been thinking of using but I'm not sure if I should sell it or just give it a go. Any thoughts?
I’ve never done truck camping before so I might not be helpful but I think it would be best to sell it and go for one with vents or windows. In a lot of the videos Mav has said he leaves a window cracked for ventilation to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning so it would probably be best to try to get something you can easily crack a window in. I hope this was slightly helpful but once again I’m most definitely not an expert in these things. Stay safe :)
In Missouri, we call it tater tot casserole and you're right about it being a Midwest delicacy! I love your new truck camping build. You can tell that you are much more comfortable with the update. Good job, Mav! Have you tried baking in the air fryer?
@@benenovak I never knew that. I find it interesting how things are called various things in their respective areas. I will keep the "hot dish" in mind if I ever get up that way (hopefully).

Make one laminated leave it in the truck that way every time you can check off everything you need as you pack it
Sweet new set up. All there's left to do is put the lagoon table on a swivel to be able to place it in front of you so you're able to prep your food more comfortable. Very cozy looking new set up Mav. Keep on trucking!!
Tator tot hotdish! Variation from my Norwegian grandma who lived in Tracy, MN, onions, celery browned with ground beef, then add a can of Busch's baked beans, a drained can of sliced water chestnuts, mix with Cream of Celery soup (don't add any extra water or milk), mix well, put frozen tots on top, add a couple slabs of butter, then bake at 350' for abt 45 minutes, make sure tots are crisped. Even better for leftovers next day if there are any. Enjoy your new set up Mav!
Love the new lay out Mav! Your are absolutely right, you have so much more space. You must have a big trip planned after doing the over haul. Please share!
Dude I'm grinning ear to ear ever since you got in the back of that truck man. This is amazing. Pure joy. Much love from IA brotha! Keep on truckin
Bruh Iowa weather is nothing compared to this. I thought going from 80 to 40 was bad they getting snow still.
I know it has nothing to do with your comment but I thought it was somewhat relevant.
Yo Mav avoid the air fryer mistake I had . You have the heat vent pointing at what I assume is a fuel tank. It will melt it from like a foot away
Since my motorcycle accident alot of things have gone down hill for me, and for the past 2 months I've been having to live out of my truck here in Vegas.
Your videos honestly make me feel a whole lot less embarrassed when I'm sleeping in random areas lmfao
how do you like living in your truck?
@@coralcortez3879 if it was on the same terms as MAV I think I would like it more but because of my situation and it's all I really have it's not as glamorous lol but it's definitely not the end of the world I have a Chevy avalanche if I had a bad cap like he does I feel like it would be a lot easier cause i can fit a small bed back here
Mmm tater tot hot dish is one of my favorite dishes and of course we learned it from my sister in law from Glenwood, Minnesota. Good stuff man; love how you did it with the air fryer! Cheers bud!
Here's how we do tater tot hot dish
Tater Tot Hotdish
Ingredients
1 bag of tater tots
1 lb. of ground beef
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
1 can Cream of Chicken soup
Half a medium onion, chopped
1 can of sweet corn or green beans
1 cup of milk
1 cup of shredded cheese (optional)
Directions
Brown hamburger and chopped onions on stove
Once the hamburger is done, drain and put it into a 9 X 14 baking dish
Add both cans of soup, the corn or green beans, and the cup of milk
Mix all ingredients together until they are blended well
Layer tater tots evenly on top of mixture
Bake for one hour at 350 degrees
At 30 minutes, take dish out and stir everything together
Cook for remaining 30 minutes
Add optional cheese at the end
Mav - your genuine enthusiasm for EVERYTHING but especially your learning/expanding experience is VERY helpful to a world of confusion! LOVE YOU MINNESOTA!!! You're pretty cool too Mav!
KEEP ON TRUCKIN!!!
it’s so great to see you motivated and refreshed after this new build! definitely excited to see your new journey with this new setup and looking forward for new content ✌🏻
Hey Mav! Odd request from ya:
I would love to see a breakdown of your “closet” during one of your videos. I am always looking for new pants for work (backcountry guide), and you seem to have some good lookin/functional ones!
Love all the videos and I’m excited to see more of the new set up!
As someone who lives in their car, these are quite enjoyable to watch!
Yeahhh Trucking Time! Life is about that! is about adventures and being happy and alive if you’re reading this keep going never give up! ✨🙌🏽💓
Been watching your videos for a few years now, they always give off such a nice, calming vibe, which is always welcome, especially after long and stressful days at work. Thank you for making us smile and in general making us feel good by sharing these experiences with you.
P.S. Appreciate the temp. unit conversion at 1:44, I've always had to convert °F to °C before. :)

Glad ya didn’t lose your license or hit a deer that would put a damper on things! The new setup is superb. Excited to see you back out truck camping, that’s where I first discovered your channel. Been adventuring myself with my pup in the southern U.S. out of my suv. Love your stuff
Mav, if you have time PLEASE make an updated playlist on Spotify of everything you listen to. Between this video and the last I have been going crazy trying to figure out some of the songs. Loving your amazing content as always!

I love that!! I just finished my build (a woman with NO build skills), started with a desk from inside my house and built out from there in my Ram 1500. I was worried about the leg room but I feel better after seeing you have same...I was thinking I made a mistake but it's not for "living in"...like that build!!
Was super excited to see the new build in action!
I love this build-makes me want to truck camp when I don’t even know the first thing. (other than what i’ve learned from watching your channel for 8 months 😂) Keep on truckin’.
Love how you just go with the flow and make things work out even if it’s not going as planned 🤞🏾💙
Man, my girl and I want to put together something like this. You should do a video where you go deep into your setup like the rewiring stuff for example, how it works and so on. Love the content
You’ve inspired me to look at what to do with my truck. Brilliant design. Really enjoyed watching the build in the previous video.
I’m a new sub as of last week. Watching as many videos as possible to be caught up.
Very impressive channel and ideas for project builds.
❤️
Watching Mav's videos makes me want to do truck camping, love the new set up I'm excited to see the new videos with your new set up.
I’m glad to see all that hard work not going to waste you did awesome with that build !!
I don’t know how your new build ended up in my feed but it was cool. Now after seeing you cook a legit meal in the back of your truck I’m hooked lol.
I love the air fryer side quest, you never know how fun sides quests can make the main story shine!
I feel you about this weather! In northwest arkansas we went from being outside in a t shirt and shorts to bundling back up again! False spring got me all out of whack with the allergies too!

Your genuine happiness at this new set up was just the best!!
That happiness that fills my soul when Mav posts a new video!!!! 🤩❤😃
This new camping rig is so fire, It feels like I've been waiting years to see you finally use it!
I'm one hundred percent in love with the fact that Minnesota call it a hot dish I live on the west coast California and Washington where I come from we call it a casserole I love the fact that you guys called Stuff hot dishes cuz a hotdish could be multiple different things is freaking cool I love watching your videos they're the best
Mavs you're one of my favorite RUclipsrs in the world I love watching your content you're a great inspiration in life in general
Wow, very innovative in diy truck camping. Find a spot, pull over, & hop 2 the back, & ready 2 cook & sleep. Few modern appliances with old fashion camping, & voila, outdoor adventure. Thx 4 sharing on Utube.

I have a Mazda 4x4 , did my first trial trip, went great but came home with a mild Covid case… been binge watching your videos this week, while in isolation! 😆 Planning the next trip up the to BC interior to visit an old friend.

Mav, my little pony, thrilled to see the joy in you as you are reaping what you have sown. Love your new setup too. Looks a lot more comfortable. Seeing you happy about the improvements you’ve made, makes me happy. Casserole looked mighty good. Glad too see you going back to your roots. Not the lavish stuff most of us cant buy. Thanks.
mav, lets hear some more about how the battery situation is, how did you connect the batteries together and make it so the starting battery doesn't draw power?
Love you Mav keep up the grind ❤️
Thanks for the video, Mav. Never disappoint. Also great to see you like the new setup. Always room for improvements and tweaking so I’m sure we’ll see some stuff changed up throughout. Thanks again. 🙌🙌
i’ve probably been camping like 5 times in my life but i love watching Mav !!! (the fact that he’s hot helps too)

Looks like you got so much more room now and looks a lot comfier for ya! Sometimes it's just good to start from scratch with something :)
You did a great job on you're build
As a native Minnesota guy, I appreciate that you got it right and said “hotdish”, cuz I live in Wisconsin now where these heathens say “casserole”. The cream of mushroom soup goes over the meat so the tots stay crispy. 😉
Also, I appreciate that you’ve stared cutting an onion the proper way.
We're cheese heads, not heathens :P
Awesome video! Loved watching the build and now the maiden voyage. Great job!
It’s definitely more than a couple minutes, but yes I agree. The change between 60mph to 70mph for 100 miles is 100 mins down to 85.7 mins.
@@jarretrausch haha, thanks for the very accurate calc

i was expecting a bit more than an 8 second, two sentence summary of the new setup at the end there, but i got the jist from you wishing you did it sooner 😂definitely looks more effective than the last. good work my man, onwards and upwards 👍
LOOK UP THE OTHER VIDEO OF HIS BUILD, HE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING HE DID TO IT
His last video has the build
@@dren106 oh that’s what it was I thought it was a timelapse of his first build and all the upgrades he did
I think he means, like how was the first night in it? Did the charger under his head keep him up? Was he warm throughout the night? That kinda stuff. I feel that way. He spent 15 minutes leading up to the first night in the truck, and then it was like, “I’m up. Talk to ya all later. Bye” it was pretty quick ending.
It always is every video is the same its time for me to unsubscribe
The fact that you listen to Sleeping with sirens, makes me so happy. And proud to be a fan of yours.
Im mavs cousin he said sell it
I’ve never done truck camping before so I might not be helpful but I think it would be best to sell it and go for one with vents or windows.

Maybe just don't speed?
People say this but fail to understand todays speed limits are low for the safety standard we are at. Not saying everyone has to speed, go at the pace you're comfortable with, but the limits can be raised in this day and age.
