Taiwan’s lawmakers should consider the health and well being of women and children when deliberating legalising surrogacy. Chen Shu-fang is right, it is always the exploitation of women as women are the ones going through orphans and birth. Children shouldn’t be commodified and trafficked. An expenses-only model still exploits women (Canada and UK).

Taiwan has some of the best IVF and healthcare systems in the world and one of the lowest birth rates. For people that want to have children but need a surrogate, they also have to be wealthy in order to afford a child to do surrogacy abroad. Just to ship the embryos to other countries cost thousands of dollars. Surrogacy needs to be allowed. It's allowed in the US! Keep the rules stringent. Allow it to just Taiwanese nationals at first but allow it. It can only help. For those talking about women possibly being exploited, most of these women are desperate to better their lives and their families and this would be an amazing way for them to do it. Keep the rules stringent to protect them. It's when there are no rules that women are exploited. Thailand is on their way to legalize surrogacy again soon. Let Taiwan be the first in this and legalize it now. Taiwan says we are democratic and progressive... then allow us these same rights as the US has.
