Also this was a long time ago and it's worse now. I went back to college instead and by the time I had a Masters my kid didn't need daycare. But it was still rough when we were on one income. And now I've got infinity school loans.

Just had a baby. I had to pay for the hospital and my newborn at the hospital. No paid family leave so am forced to go back to work and pump there which is horrible and my baby hates the bottle. My medical premiums are $800 per month. Daycare costs are outrageous (almost $2,000!). I have never been more disgusted with America- it truly hates families, babies and children.
If you breastfed Be ready when the baby is 3 years old and still wake up 2 am in the morning demanding breastfed. Bottle is not as bad as you think as you go down the years.

@@middleagebrotips3454 I only plan to breastfeed till baby is one and I can switch baby to cow’s milk. Breastfeeding is more beneficial to baby and the cost of formula is outrageous. The cost of diapers is over $100 per month. But that’s nice daycare is cheaper in your area, where I am it is $1800-$2,300. Although I think daycare should be cheaper or subsidized. We should implement the daycare model France uses for its citizens.

We need to stop trying to guilt people into being parents. People who really want children should have children and people who do not want children should not, should definitely not have them.
The problem is that I believe most ppl want marriage, love and babies. But if u don’t have a safe good economy like the American economy then most ppl would rather not have babies or be married, plus they’re talking about microchipping ppl and most people know that’s Revelation and leads to ppl becoming computers and becoming slaves to a system that values machines over humans.Any loving person would not want that for their kid.

This frame of thinking that you are trying to impose is exactly the type of excuse I heard from young women when they were trying to convince themselves to NOT have kids. Those same women are now in their early 30s and unable to find someone to marry and have kids with. THIS EXACT FRAME OF THINKING is what is causing women to lose out on growing as a woman.

Not everyone's situation is the same. I tried very hard to convince his father to be in my son's life because I was abandoned by my mom. A big reason for opting out is the risk no longer being worth the reward. Men can walk away from their families at any time, no problem. If women try that, they're charged with child abuse, endangerment and abandonment.
Having a child is only permanent for women. That type of finality and no way out makes having children way less appealing. And that doesn't even go into the nightmare of what being a single mother is actually like.

A women is at every single statistically advantage with federal and state aide, in 2015 only 3% of all alimony was paid to men, 97% of the time women will receive alimony. There’s no economic stability for average working class Americans. Many people do not want to bring a child into the world when they don’t feel confident that they have job and housing security. Even if you manage to stay afloat the lack of stability can be so terrifying for the children. I was 8 when the 1990 recession happened and I’ve never felt secure since then. They can pull the rug out from under you anytime and I’ve seen a lot of people get permanently locked out of jobs other than the most low paying ones because if you go to many months without finding a new position you basically get black listed. Employers start thinking there must be something wrong with the individual for being out of work too many months even when the individual has great work experience. Plus in corporate America there is a high risk pf being forced into early retirement in your 50s or early 60s when you are nowhere near financially ready to retire.

It’s easy to have kids today than ever before. Before vaccines about 49% died before five. Take away modern appliances, running water, and electricity, it was @$@! raising kids. People just don’t want to make the sacrifice that those before us made.
For many Americans, they may not be financially stable enough to have children until they are over 35 and for many women that can be extremely difficult if not too late. Just like our government, big business is selling the future so they can extra profitable today.

What is conveniently overlooked in this discussion is that social media has given young women an unprecedented look into what motherhood and marriage looks like and it does not look very appealing. Lackluster schools, undisciplined children, cost of living, and weaponized incompetence on the part of the men makes freedom look far more appealing to young women now. The commentator mentioned that child free people’s lives seem “empty” to her, however she is so far off base with this assumption that it’s laughable.
If young women think something like undisciplined children is the fault of the children, that just might be part of the problem. "Weaponized incompetence on the part of men" just means you've watching too much television for 50 years. If anything is being weaponized, it's the idea that men are incompetent when it comes to kids vs reality. THIS! Exactly this, I’m 37 and I have never wanted kids. Sure, my Barbie’s and toy horses had babies all the time, but I never had the interest, and I also love kids! I refuse to live off of the government just to have a family and make weirdos worried about our population decline happy. I see this as a blessing. I’m one of the people who see our world as overpopulated, meaning, we don’t have the resources to take care of those of us who are here now, why the F would I bring another human into this mess. Things are rapidly shifting for our country, there won’t even be social security money for my generation. I’m just glad my parents have theirs. We are a country of renters now, and buying a house is not possible for the majority. When you rent, there is no feeling of stability as landlords have been jacking up rates forcing families on the streets. Children need that stability, and people do not want to bring a child in this world to suffer. There are so many other reasons, but in the end, when animals are stressed, they dont reproduce. Come up with as many excuses as you want, people are all saying the same thing. Only big business can fix this as they own the government. Goodluck, I have no offspring due to this, which makes it even worse because now I could care less about all of it as I have no kids to inherit this disaster.

Also, true story I was 71/2 months pregnant when my husband lost is job. We lost our medical insurance. I went on Medicaid for my pregnancy but NO DOCTOR would take me because I was too far along in my pregnancy because of their own insurance rules...I had to just show up in the emergency room when I was in Labor and the nurses had to run around and ask if anyone could deliver my child... I had NO access to care during those last few months, I am lucky that I didn't have any thing go wrong but I was so scared, I didn't know what to do. It was a terrifying experience.

Women in states with abortion bans know that a difficult pregnancy can be a death sentence. Medical personnel are refusing to treat women in emergency rooms with crisis pregnancies because they don't want the legal exposure. I live in Texas. It is happening here.

Fertility isn’t the problem, the issue at hand is the lack of financial and healthcare support for people having children. Starting with the cost of appointments before giving birth, having to go to work until one gives birth, the expense of healthcare for a child, having to take time off work and be paid less, the cost of childcare once parents go back to work, the cost of housing, the cost of raising kids, , the cost of housing a family with kids, and expense of kids in activities and student loans (if the child goes to college). Once the child graduates from college, it may be difficult to obtain housing which does not cost 50% of earnings and then the child may start the cycle again when they have a child or children. I forgot to mention the mortality rate of women giving birth in the U.S. is shamefully high compared to other developed countries.

It can cost north of $10k out of pocket just for delivery alone. This isn't some great mystery here.
Shortage of reliable men to help earn money, remain faithful, assist in child rearing. Reluctance of both political parties to prioritize paid parental leave.

Most of my young married with children friends (30s) are miserable. And these are successful couples. What people need to be taught is that it's an individual choice. I'm 73 and never been married or had kids and I've had and still have a fulfilling life. I never wanted it and I'm glad I could make that choice. But many friends it's all they ever wanted. There's no "right" way.
Agreed. People need to do what they want to do and stop doing what other people Tell them to do or what they think society wants them to do. Nothing makes people more miserable than trying to live a life for someone else.
I think part of it might be that some young people are looking at what the future for their offspring could be, and it's looking like the world will be worse for their potential kids. The climate might be cooked, the government in the US is turning more authoritarian and won't do anything for it's citizens.
If everyone through history thought that way, humanity wouldn't exist now. There has definitely been worse times throughout history, and people pushed along. Genetic suicide doesn't solve the world's problem, unless your genetics are the problem I guess.

Least surprising story ever. Just the act of having a baby in this country can cost tens of thousands of dollars. A procedure which is free or nearly so in every developed country. Not to mention the cascade of costs that come as children get older.
Most developed countries send mothers home with large boxes of supplies when the leave the hospital as well as provide maternity leave. The United States is the biggest joke on the planet.

As the Roman Empire declined, so did the birthrate. They tried to pass laws and even subsidize the proles. The problem was the economy and society itself (i.e. morality) were collapsing.

This world is getting worse everyday. Its a scary world to bring kids into. I agree the cost of living is ridiculous. Its near impossible to buy a home without two very good incomes coming in. I don’t know why this video popped up on my feed but I must say that it was eye opening. I was shocked that it’s still women out here using these archaic talking points in regards to feminism. Women aren’t having children because we have opened our eyes and we see the world for what it really is. We are tired of being treated like cattle and second class citizens. The cost of living is ridiculous, you either have a great paying job or work 60+ hours a week just to pay bills. We don’t even have time to ourselves yet along time for children. We only have 12 hours in a day and most of us are working those full 12 hours a night/ day then sleeping the rest of the hours away. The food is doped up with steroids, even the vegetables and fruit. A studio apartment is $900 in Texas. Average cost of groceries is $900 a month. People no longer receiving taxes and most have to pay back taxes. Even with health insurance, you paying hundreds of dollars in copay and medicine. Daycare is $600+ a month for one child, and jobs are posting fake hiring events just so they can receive government funding. It’s ridiculous

Sorry but we are living in the modern era which means women have to work. If women want to stay at home it requires sacrifices. During the agricultural economy, which lasted for thousands of years, kids were economic assets. Free farm labor. So people pumped out a lot of them. The Industrial Revolution and the Tech Revolution turned kids into an economic burden. So people are having fewer of them. This is the main reason. If kids were still an economic benefit, the birth rates would still be sky high.
This is the part so many people don't even realize. Kids were almost always a "blessing" before, for the the free/cheap labor and due to societal norms at the time, were also your retirement/social security benefit. As kids aged, they took care of their parents and grandparents. Now it's fairly rare for that sort of dynamic to happen with any regularity.
Incentives drive behavior.
This is something people forget when they scream "You can afford kids! People in dirt huts have 5 kids!" Nevermind that in that dirt hut, most of those kids end up with a positive ROI.

It can be both, but the more important question to ask is if one is causally linked to the other. Is unhealthy nutrition causing the bad economy? Or is the bad economy causing the unhealthy nutrition? I would argue the former is true. I would argue that poor nutrition leads to fear-driven fight or fight behaviors that encourage us to create an economy based on greed. That greed ultimately leads to a vicious cycle of unsustainable wealth inequality where people can't afford to provide for children. "You are what you eat."

Daycare costs have skyrocketed to the point where having two kids in daycare is basically more than one parent is making working full time. Daycares are not at fault, the government needs to step up and help struggling parents.
Or maybe parents need to raise their own children rather than relying on strangers or the government.
Since some women are waiting until they are in their 40s to have children, their parents are either too old or deceased to help rear the children.

Also, for me personally, what if the my kid happens to have a medical condition that would required life long medical aid or if the kid has autism, ADHD, things I know I don't want to deal with and I'd feel bad to bring a kid in this world with health issues, whether it's physical or mental. Infertility is extremly common these days. I'm seeing women in their mid to late twenties having to pay 10k for fertility treatments. I know my wife and I have been trying for almost two years and she just turned 30.

Having children would make me miserable. I have access to education and a choice to not wanting kids as statistically, alot of women are happier that way. Alot of people just don’t want kids. Im one of them.
Society has more then doubled in these past few decades. The problem is the set up we have for non stop growth. Society was doing fine with less then haft the birth rates before they were doubling. They were actually rightfully so worried about overpopulation.
We need to change the way things are ran for constant growth and milking the working class and this won’t be a problem.

Just because some of us don’t have kids doesn’t mean we don’t get hit with elder care on the back end. Adult children aren’t always going to support them. Sometimes it’s care of a non parent. I’m so glad I decided to not have kids. I’ve had to struggle at points and I would not have wanted my kid to struggle with me.

Allow me to scare u a bit. The less kids we have the less kids we're going to have. Adolescent is being extended, 30's are the new 20's socially speaking. Biologically you're not have many kids in your 40's. The amount of resources it takes to prepare one kid to become independent is the cost of 6 kids when our parents had this generation, kid inflation. It's more and more common to still be at home in late 20's and into 30's. Throw in dating apps and there's a significant disproportion, some people have access to far too many dating opportunities and the majority have far too few. These apps have in fact torn the social fabric of dating appart and made it more difficult for people to find a partner, at the same time it's become the predominant way to find a partner. This is a predicament not a problem. Whereas a problem may have a solution, this predicament has a feedback loop that has baked in the consequences of a declining population. Trajectory is more important than magnitude, being below replacement birth rate, even a smidge, means as we have less kids will we will have even few kids until who knows what.
Its not just financial i bought a tesla, travel, soon to get a passport as well. Im 29 dont even consider pursuing anybody because there's things i want in this life. You need to love yourself and live the life you want
