Zipping files is easy. Go to finder select the files, press down to get menu and select compress. You even showed the pop up in your video for a second 😂
The option was not there when I needed it.
But that’s not a real issue with the iPad, because it’s easy to create a ZIP-file.
When you’re in your “recent files,” you can’t create a ZIP-file. That’s not possible. But that’s also not possible on a Mac. At this point, you have to copy or move all files to the same destination and compress them.
Another problem is when the files aren’t downloaded; sometimes it won’t create a ZIP-file. Similar to the Mac, with the difference that you get a small notification-window with a progress-bar. That same is happening in the background on iPadOS, but without the notification-window.
If the compress option is not available at all, you can also try a hard reboot.
In the video, it sounds like it isn’t possible at all on the iPad.
Point is Apple makes is a pain in the ass and Patrick isn’t wrong

@@PatrickRambles I love your work on RUclips, agree with everything else you say about the iPad in this video - in particular with your comparison to iPhone OS - but compressing selected files in a folder by right-clicking on the selection is a standard feature :-)
I don’t get understand all of the “can I replace my MacBook with an iPad” videos. An iPad is designed to be a tablet. By attaching it to a keyboard doesn’t magically turn it into a laptop. It is the same iPad attached to a keyboard. If your workflow requires a MacBook, use a MacBook.
Because it's one of the most common questions from viewers. I agree with your take.

I use my M1 12.9 iPad Pro as my main computing device..I’ve never owned a Mac and have been absolutely fine! Given that I have an iPhone (14 pro max) & an actual “work computer” …I find that the iPad fits perfectly into my apple ecosystem system as my main computing device for e-mails, content consumption, surfing the net,taking notes…the list goes on!! I also love how it can connect to my other apple devices in a very integrated & seamless use case… I do plan on trading in my M1 12.9 pro for the new 13” M4 pro by the end of this year as I like to upgrade every 3-5 years with my iPads and every two years for my phones..I work in accounting and use my devices as tools to better help me satisfy day to day tasks as well as compliments to my everyday workflow..Believe it or not but my favorite apple product that I own is still my Apple Watch Ultra !!! Couldn’t live without this thing! 🤣

Nice Bimmer! Enjoyed Warsaw on my two trips there. Agree iPad OS needs a serious upgrade, especially Files. Despite that, am enjoying my iPad Pro 11" as the great tablet it is.
The hardware is pretty spectacular.
Those single-arm chest raises (idk if that's what you call them lol) at 6:38 are awesome. I switched to single-arm on those too a while ago and feel it so much better. What a shockingly good gym for a hotel! Glad you had a great trip, and great video!
The gym was two floors, never seen anyting like it in a hotel! Single arm chest raises is what I would call them too I guess lol. They isolate that middle upper part so well!
@@PatrickRambles I’m all about trying to build that upper chest shelf lately! If I may ask, which hotel was it? My (US) company has offices in Krakow and Warsaw, we work with them remotely often. In the very unlikely event I travel there for work, I’d love to know which hotel to shoot for! There should be an online group dedicated to which hotels have great gyms! I have been to some hotels with real stinkers LOL

Hi Dave, yeah I've used cellular models before but haven't really found the added benefit worth it. I never leave the house without my phone and my iPad autoconnects to the phone's hotspot. Since most of us have unlimited data plans these days, I don't see the need for a cellular model anymore and would rather save the cash.

I'm considering getting an iPad just to be a sidecar. I have a portable display, but at 500 nits, the brightness is lacking. I'm trying to find a brighter display, like 1000 nits, but I may just have to get an iPad.
Hey! Sidecar works pretty well, but imo doesn't fully replace an external display.

The battery drained by 54% from 9am at the airport to 2.30pm is kind of fast tbh. If you're always using it for 5 hours straight then I can understand it drained quite fast but I don't think you constantly used it throughout the 5 hours right?
It really feels like the only thing all content creators and people who want/ need the iPad to be a laptop ( which it’s not, it’s an amazing laptop replacement), is a desktop style Home Screen. And that feels like it’s coming with iOS 18. You can drag and drop anything on an iPad. The file app is different than the finder application on a MacBook. Different isn’t worse. I’ve owned and used my iPad Pro M1/ M4 every day for business for years now. It’s had a few hiccups from time to time, but it’s what I grab first almost every time. With each new iOS update many concerns get addressed. My only real complaint is that the keyboard track pad can’t always replace a finger tap on the screen in some cases. Like while watching RUclips videos in full screen. I can’t always click on the minimize screen button in the corner of the screen with the track pad. Almost as though it doesn’t sense a button there. I have to reach over and touch the button with my finger. Anyways, people should start learning to use IPAD IOS for what it is. Which is pretty incredible and in many other ways far more convenient.
Personally I don't want it to be a laptop replacement, nor do I believe it will ever be one. A LOT of my viewers do however, so it is definitely an angle that deserves attention.

Looks like there’s no shortage of money in Warsaw my wife and I retired 5 years ago and we hardly ever use are MacBook Pro anymore so for us iPads are our go to for everything.wife has an iPad mini she uses daily I have an iPad Pro 12.9’’ 5 that I use daily we did take a trip lately and I took my older iPad Air because it’s easier to carry in my backpack on the plain. So in short we love iPads and can’t live without them. Hoping they come out with a new mini soon so I can purchase one for my wife Great video keep them coming I enjoy all of them Dave

I truly love these types of videos you do. I am such a sheltered person living in the US. The best I got is Vegas. 🤣😂 Glad I got to meet you there. The food there looks amazing, the history is incredible, and looks very fun. I truly need to travel abroad more. I am very envious of you in Europe because of all the cool places you can go in just a short flight or train ride. I truly agree with your assessment of the iPad. Apple really needs to step up the IOS. For no other reason other than the power and speed these new iPads have. The engine is great, but the software is very limiting. I am very glad I bought the new iPad Pro, but my other one was two generations ago. Thanks for the great video and showing us around.

great video Patrick, I to have been one of those people that say can replace an iPad Pro with my 16' MacBook Pro, but within an hour, I find it utterly impossible with so many functions and operations that I take advantage on macOS then I can do on the iPad. So it's no Bueno for me to the iPad Pro.

After my GCSEs I’m looking to buy an 11 inch iPad Pro, I was wondering if it is worth also getting a monitor so I could use an external keyboard and mouse with the monitor and iPad while at home at my desk, but then I could just use the iPad when I’m at school for example. What do you think? Is there any point also getting a monitor?
If you need a larger screen it can be worth it.

Patrick - GREAT Video As Usual -- So -- I have waffled back and forth between the 12.9" and the 11" -- MY FAVORITE and receives the most use is the MINI. (Although I cant for some reason use it for notes) -- I did check out the 13" and the 11" -- what made you decide to go with the 11"? - I usually use my IPAD in my home office. I wondering for productivity if the 13" is better with the screen size but obviously it is still like carrying my Macbook Air. Would you still recommend the 11" (maybe until Mac OS makes it to the IPAD if Ever) I was so hoping that Apple would come out w/ something like the Surface ? and if you need the screen real estate connecting to a Monitor?

The compress feature was not available in the drop down when I needed it. And let's be honest, there is a LOT wrong with iPadOS.

My iPad Pro is still in my wallet. Nope, I am not wasting my money. The 2018 is still sufficient for me for a while longer. I don't care about a computer iPad..... Ive given up on that. Apple will never give us a hybrid like Microsoft did. it pairs well with my MBP M1, and 6s. All work well for my needs, and I am not one who contributes to Apple's trillions that often.

A question here: If you traveled with just your MacBook Pro, what would you do with it that you didn’t do with your iPad?
I’m asking because you said you didn’t used the iPad as much as you thought you would. I don’t understand the real reasons - was it because of the iPad itself, or because you had a good time with Johannes and enjoyed the trip?
It is ironic that the tech reviewers saying they can’t use an iPad everyday are probably the people the iPad is least suitable. Most people’s workflow is not so tech intensive. Like what most businessmen do is email, document creation, spreadsheets, video calls, texting, maybe PowerPoint, and note taking - all of which can be done well on iPad. In fact for some things the iPad just works better, like for example the last two times I tried to join Zoom meetings on a Mac I could not connect, pulled out my iPad and worked perfect first time. Having a built in SIM and not relying on WiFi on the move is also a big benefit of the iPad over the Mac. I use both MacBook and iPad, but only really need the Mac for a couple of tech tasks. If only Apple would allow some way to run Mac apps on the iPad, then I could travel a lot lighter - at present the iPad is as good or better for 95% of what I do.
Zoom should run just fine on the MacBook. Sim card is nice, that's true, but I never leave the house without my iPhone so Hotspot it is.
I work in commercial real estate in finance, I have software that is only for CRE professionals and excel sheets that are so big and complex ipad excel wouldn’t be capable of doing. It’s good for people who are not specialized with software and the most basics of users.

Majority of companies uses advanced functionalities in excel and those don’t work under iOS version. So there is that - even simple office job can’t be done on iPad. Besides that and million other types of softwares like vpn clients, multitasking simply sucks on iPad period.
Yeah I find Excel on the M4 iPad Pro sucks. I can’t update the graph from the updated row of numbers above, so i have to go to my Mac, but that’s not an iPad problem, only the software

When I got my iPad 2 donkey years ago, thinking it would replace my laptop. Donkey years later… it still couldn’t replace an actual PC, but a great complimentary device.
Every year we hope WWDC would improve the file system of iPadOS. But all we could do is dream…
Yep. WWDC never fails to disappoint.
I’ve been able to use an iPad Pro as a daily driver main “computer” since 2014 by leveraging remote desktop to connect to a Mac or Windows computer when iPadOS hits a wall. Also works from an iPhone and even Z Fold device, but the laptop-like form factor of an iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard makes it the most seamless experience.
This requires you have dedicated always-on “server” devices to do this, but this is a workaround to getting a “dual boot” device.
Is this more practical than carrying around an actual desktop OS device like a MacBook or Surface? Probably not, but I love the form factor and touch-first nature of the iPad.
Hey! Yeah that doesn't work for things like video editing. The slightest lag is a deal breaker. If I really need MacOS on a trip (not for video.editing), I usually bring a MacBook air.
I hear you. I work in Finance, and can do 90% of my work natively in iPad OS. When I need actual Excel (with plug-in support and access to the Bloomberg terminal), I Remote Desktop to my Windows environment. When I need access to my personal Mac, I just Jump Desktop to remote into that. So it eliminates the need to carry a MacBook for me.
Will be interesting to see what Apple does with IPad OS (if anything) at the upcoming WWDC.
