- The Grave of Ian Fleming at Sevenhampton, Wiltshire.
Ian Lancaster Fleming
(28 May 1908 - 12 August 1964)
was a British writer who is best known for his postwar James Bond series of spy novels. Fleming came from a wealthy family connected to the merchant bank Robert Fleming & Co., and his father was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Henley from 1910 until his death on the Western Front in 1917. Educated at Eton, Sandhurst, and, briefly, the universities of Munich and Geneva, Fleming moved through several jobs before he started writing.
Fleming died at age 56 at Kent and Canterbury Hospital in the early morning of 12 August 1964-his son Caspar's 12th birthday.
His last recorded words were an apology to the ambulance drivers for having inconvenienced them, saying "I am sorry to trouble you chaps. I don't know how you get along so fast with the traffic on the roads these days."
Fleming was buried in the churchyard of Sevenhampton, near Swindon.

Excellent video informative amusing and moving. Sean Connery. Goldfinger. Shirley Bassey Diamonds are forever. Thanks
To be the best he was the best R.I.P.
I had the privilege of being Sir Roger Moors's official web manager for 20-plus years till his death and Roger told me of his admiration of the people he worked with often. I also did Ian Fleming with the connection. Good film.
Thank you for checking me out my good man 😊👌🏼
I live in rural Canterbury Kent, by one of his old abodes in Bekesbourne. I’m surprised he not buried at St George Golf Course. Also his seafront house in St Margaret’s is special too. Love a Bond movie and links to Kent. Thanks for all the facts. Sad about his son.
Great video as ever! My favourite bond is Pierce Brosnan and my favourite 007 movie is Goldeneye!
Marvellous, you've definitely highlighted this location enough for me to plan it too, good work Rufus and keep going ;-).
Your welcome 😊
I live a few miles from there and never knew
Great video, Roger Moore, You only live twice, Aha The living daylights.
Greta choices 😊
My Bond Film has always been Goldfinger and of course Shuan Connery as 007 and the song to go with the film by Shirley Bassey, and of course there would be no Janes Bond films if it wasn't for Ian Fleming RIP.
Shocking !!
For me, there is only one James Bond, and that's Sean Connery and the film and song Goldfinger...
Roger Moore one of the best
Sean Conakry song diamonds are forever
Fleming wasn't too fond of this place. Probably would have preferred to be buried in Kent.
Do you know why Bond was 007?
Cos he was the 7th agent… also in bonds words "that you've had to kill a chap in cold blood in the course of some assignment" he twice killed in fulfilling assignments.
@@rufusgazelle no when during the war he worked for MI5 he (Fleming) was the 7 person in charge
@@colinmew7139 that’s interesting to know thank you, I thought you meant within the bond books/films… 👍🏼
Roger Moore the best
