I'm just embarking on the no raw oils/butters journey and really appreciate this video as I'm trying to figure it out on my own and through watching videos like yours. Do you have a video on brands of each Styler mentioned or tips for the more affordable ones.
There’s no way I’m going back! Lol I’m a year into the detox and it’s only gotten better since I began 💛 It’s good to know you’re still loving and enjoying the benefits of the process as well!
Hey Samantha, the best way to know would be partnering with a Cut It Kinky Stylist who would be able to assess your hair and inform you of your essential elements. They have a directory to help you find a stylist in your area. Or, you could subscribe to their curly education platform, SeeSomeCurls. It’ll dive deeper into the definition of each term and how to recognize your essential elements. I’ll also make a video covering them!
Hey Savannah! Dryness is a behavior, so we first have to figure out why your hair is behaving that way. Are you cleansing/conditioning/styling once every week or 7-10 days? What type of shampoo are you using on a regular basis (clarifying, all purpose) and are you following up your first shampoo with a moisturizing shampoo? What’s your lifestyle (do you workout, have a dirty job etc)? Do you live in a humid or dry climate? What products are you using to style? (I.e. a gel for wash n go’s, mousse for twists, etc.). All of these things play a factor in ensuring your hair isn’t extremely dry. The only way to moisturize your hair is to wash and condition it. Water = moisture, so once all of the water evaporates from your hair (usually within a week) it’s time to cleanse/condition/and style again to allow moisture back into your hair. I love the Innersense Hydrating Cream conditioner, it’s super thick and does a wonderful job of closing the hair cuticle to retain moisture. I use this along with the Innersense Hydrating Hairbath Shampoo. Your technique also matters as well when applying products in each step. Lastly, make sure you’re not using any raw oils/butters/ or creams in your hair as they tend to stay on the hair once the water evaporates, leaving the hair dry with buildup. I know this response is super long, but there are many different factors involved so I wanted to outline those. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions.
@@NellaDonte Thank you for the detailed response! I am 15 days into the 30 day hair detox. I have always struggled with dryness even while using oils and butters. My hair never responded well to any of that. It’s as if nothing is penetrating my hair, which is why i thought that i should give the 30 day challenge a shot. My curls are cute and my hair feels moisturized with the UFD and i create hold paired together, but when i wash my hair out it’s just like no moisture at all. I live in a humid place. Maybe it’s the fact that i need a moisturizing shampoo. I don’t do anything through the week that would compromise my hair; like working out, or working in a dirty work environment . I do have colored hair. The color is very old. my hair was dry before the color. I always thought my dryness was do to having low porosity hair so smoothing products are hard to wrap my head around. These last 15 days have been rewarding, i am still trying to figure out products though . Do you know of a good moisturizing shampoo?
@@SavannahElizabethG You’re welcome. It sounds like you’re associating moisturized/dryness with how it feels when products are in it, when truly hydration is a behavior not a feeling or look, and varies depending on your essential elements. With you living in a humid climate, that should help you retain moisture but it also depends on your personal essential elements. Having color definitely plays a role, and your shampoo should be tailored for color treated hair. What shampoo and conditioner are you using? Is your hair high density/medium/low? Is it fine/coarse? What’s your water quality? I would recommend the Innersense Color Awakening Hairbath Shampoo, Hydrating Cream Bath Conditioner, and their Hydrating Hair Mask as a Deep Conditioner. Consistency with your cleanse/condition/style routine will help you retain moisture. Keep in mind that hydrated hair feels like YOUR hair in all of its essential elements. If you feel you’re losing moisture (water), it may be time to wash your hair again. I will say although the products do matter, it’s not all about the products. Your technique matters as well. Are you making sure your hair is soaking wet before applying shampoo/conditioner/gels? Also, I would recommend partnering with a CIK stylist in your area so they can fully assess your hair, and joining the SeeSomeCurls course.
Hey Nicole, I would not recommend using a twist cream for a wash n go as it won’t provide the level of hold that you need. I would go with a gel for your WNG, and a mousse for your twist & braid outs. If you use a twist cream, it’ll give you a softer hold and the style may not last as long. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions 💛
Congratulations! Life with your natural hair is so much easier on this side of the journey.

Hi, what type of deep conditioner or conditioner would you recommend for extremely dry hair?
