Mazda is so underrated! It really does feel like a more premium driving experience that is more fluid and intuitive. I bought a new Mazda this past year. My sister liked it so much that she bought a new Mazda. Then, a family member borrowed our Mazda (to use during a road trip). They plan on buying a Mazda now too.
I own a 2024 Mazda CX-50 TPP (fully loaded turbo, terracotta). I am a big old guy and I fit it in nicely. The CX-70/90 is nice, but too big and "common sized" with everything else out there. The CX-50 is does everything well, like having a four course meal. You might not want everything on the menu, but overall after eating...you are smiling and satisfied.
Great comparison! That CX-70 looks huge compared to the CX-50 when you out them side by side like that. We had a rental CX-5 for a week and one thing we really liked is how the rear doors open at almost 90 degrees like my wife's Forester XT. Looking at your video, looks like the CX-50 and CX-70 do the same.
Thanks!! Yeah, it feels a lot bigger and puts into perspective more of the CX-50’s tightness. But modern Mazdas are overall great cars and have a lot of standard features you’ll appreciate but maybe not initially think about when shopping (like the wide doors) built into their DNA that you can just count on having!
I’ll admit that the CX-70, being a 2-row crossover identical in size to the CX-90 3-row vehicle is a bit too large for me, too. But the CX-60/CX-80 are not available in the U.S. BTW, I also dislike black interiors (like your CX-50), so I had to order my 70 from Japan to get Greige seats!
My wife's MDX is plush. But I don't see that it's $25,000 more plush than the CX-70/90. The CX-50 seems like a baby MDX with it's ergonomics and handling. The similarities between the vehicles is fairly remarkable. Mazda's really punching above their weight now.
Both of the CX-70s are mild hybrids, whether 280hp (Turbo) or 340hp (Turbo S). The difference is in the tuning of the engine. The PHEV version is the only one that is a "full" hybrid.
Agree with the wheels; I own a CX90 Preferred Plus which comes with 19" wheels (vs Premium which has 21" ers). Akso regular moonroof, not a panoramic moonroof (which I also dislike).
I'm liking both vehicles. I'm on a research mission to possibly replace my 22 MDX Advance with the lease ending (after a 6 month extension to Feb 2025). I could trade Down and consider a CX-50 (but with the 2.5L Turbo for me), and althoiugh I don't really need a 3 ROW SUV, I do like the room and comfort (getting old and a little decrepid at 73 YO) of the CX-70. For reference, a CX-70 Premium Plus Turbo S (that's the one I would get) is less "luxurious" than a 25 Acura MDX does deleiver the HP /Torque of a Type S MDX for $18-19 K LESS !. And vs a Non Type S MDX, it comes in about $10K less than a A-Spec Advance but still has much more HP / Torque ! I'm liking the color of the CX-70 - not surte about the red Interior tho. Please Note that the CX-70 InfoT. system does become a Touch Screen when AA or CP is Engaged - eveen while driving!!
I have a CX-70 PHEV Premium, and it is considered a mid-size crossover. (You’re not the first reviewer to call it “full-sized.”) For a full-size SUV, you’ll have to go for the (gargantuan) Ford Expedition, i.e., not a crossover at all but a full, truck-based Sport Utility Vehicle. Just FYI.
I’m not sure why there’s the discrepancy, the source I usually like to use for that fact listed this as a full size unibody. Maybe because about 16.5’ is the largest unibodies get? That’s at least the same length as many of the other cramped 3 row options. Either way I’m sorry if I’ve misled anyone so thank you for adding your ownership experience and insight to this topic!
I was wondering the same, then I realized after looking at it again, as well as the CX-70. It's the lighting. This is raking evening (possibly morning) light that has a lot of yellow in it. They BOTH look pretty dirty, but I don't think they are.
OK call Mazda and tell them how they should price their vehicles. Americans make me laugh..they talk about capitalism non stop then bitch non stop that companies get to price their products how they want.
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 That would be Nice....But totally Unreal in today's world!! Inflation (reasons for same comments don't belong here) and Supply Chain disruptions (same reasons for Inflation) . I will say, compared to Acura , and others, the CX-70 is very well compettively priced for what they deliver.

They’re very under rated! I’m glad you’re enjoying yours.

Agree that the scroll dial is excellent. Easy to learn, very useful
Many people don’t seem to like it, but it’s an awesome design. Not cluttered and confusing like most systems these days. 🤪

Good comparison. The 50 seens small once you've been in a 70 or 90

@@DeeEllEff the CX 70 should’ve been the CX 60 that Europe gets

Is it just the light or are both engines covered in dust?
The light definitely had a lot to do with it.

I have the 2nd row captain chairs; way better than the bench
…unless you own a dog. I really like having bench seats for my pups.
@thecleaningteacher638 you are right. But my dog (a greyhound) has not fallen between the seats (yet)
I think you meant to say they both have hood struts, not prop rods!🤣🤣
Haha I mean to say a lot of things that just don’t end up coming out right. Thanks for being here to catch them and correct them!! 😝
If you can't afford cx70 just stay with cx50
Wow - lots of blank buttons on the lower spec CX-50.
Topguns 😮
Cx70 hybrid mpg?
It’s something like 24 city and 28 highway. Not good, basically a performance hybrid haha.
Both vehicles are too large for most people. The perfect size would be something between the CX-50 and CX-30.
The CX-5 is most definitely not too large for many people. That size vehicle is the most popular in the US.
Why is the CX50 engine compartment so dirty!!??
I was wondering the same, then I realized after looking at it again, as well as the CX-70. It's the lighting. This is raking evening (possibly morning) light that has a lot of yellow in it. They BOTH look pretty dirty, but I don't think they are.
Yeah, good catch! A lot of that was the lighting and what my camera picked up.
@ Ah!! Makes sense. Thanks for the great car reviews!!
Very very underpowered
Funner needs to be banished from the dictionary
Haha.
Honest review ?🤣🤣🤣
🤷♂️🤪
Pricing should be $10k less on both model
OK call Mazda and tell them how they should price their vehicles. Americans make me laugh..they talk about capitalism non stop then bitch non stop that companies get to price their products how they want.
That would be nice!!
Yeah, I’m a dreamworld, but no vehicle is priced the way we think it should be
