    Sabalenka is without a doubt the most improved player since the past year. I remember that match against Peterson in the Aussie swing when she served 20+ double faults couldn’t get a serve in crying. Not just technically but emotionally too. She seems to have matured a lot in the way she approaches her matches and is showing that she’s not just some power grunt machine who won’t give a good handshake at the net. She’s really come into her own and seems to be happy.

      Because (1) Aryna had not matured mentally in 2021 and still struggled some into 2022, but she changed mentally more recently.

    The fighting will and grit Aryna is displaying is amazing. Sakkari did really well in the first set. The scary part is, Aryna can still improve, especially her serve motion. Novak constantly improved his serve and Aryna can learn from Novak’s process and become that level of dominating player.

    • @bigrobsydney

    Sakkari did really well to stay with Saba in the 1st set, but in the end was overwhelmed by her power. Clay suits Sakkari's game because of her high rally tolerance, but she also plays too much into Saba's game by hitting too much to the middle. Only Swiatek could beat Saba because she creates a lot of angles with her top spins and aims for the sidelines constantly.

    Sabalenka's forehand is one of the best shots in all of women's tennis. It's technically perfect. She can roll it. She can flatten it out. She can play the sharp angles. And when she steps into it, especially off the return, it's almost unplayable. Her backhand is a great shot as well, but that forehand is straight up heavy metal.

    • @jukkao.parviainen8669

      I would say Iga’s western grip forehand with 3000 rpm rotation is more difficult one but yesterday just was not her day. Nothing to take away from Aryna, all credit for her win.
      About the speeds, in US Open last year they constantly recorded not only the serves but the played ball speeds. Sinner on the men’s side was 4 mph faster than Iga and only Thiem could hit the backhand with the same speed.

    This will be the challenge for sakari. How does she find a way round to take big hitters like SABALENKA to a third set to increase her chances of over coming her height deficit through resistance? She will find it difficult to win a grand slam because of her hight. But she can I think. Chances are slim.

      Sakkari has beaten 6' tall big hitters like Pliskova and Kvitova. She has the game to beat these players. But Saba's game is more than just power, she consistently hits lines and corners with accuracy and pace, and her serve has turned from a liability to an asset this year, which makes her even harder to beat. Quite honestly only Swiatek can beat Saba these days, and only on clay or very slow HC like IW/Ostrava/Guadalajara.

    • @Hammerton32
      @Hammerton32 Год назад

      Yes, Sakkara has, and yes Sabalenka's game is more than power, and lately her composure/relative calmness on the court has helped her mentally stay in matches and she's also a better mover than the two Czechs which takes away some of the advantage that is Sakkari's movement against them.

    The point at 2:41 is a perfect example of Sakkari's weakness, sure her height is a disadvantage but with 20 semifinals (as many as Swiatek) one title is to sort. She either gets nervous and goes for to much, or plays to passive her UE in semis goes goes through the roof. She hits a great return and Aryna backs away. Any player sort or tall would run forward and hit a smash or take the ball in the air. But she does what Fed use to do vs Nadal at least he did it only on his backhand. Still she has no slice (a must vs a hitter). Still so nervous...

    I never thought big shorts would be this cool idea for a number 2. But. It's workin' for her and looks pretty good. When Navratilova wore shorts at 40+, it was because she could get away with it, being an all time great AND older. The whole Russian chick propaganda poster chick is alive and well in WTA. You know? Workers unite and the chicks look like Sabalenka and wear BIG shorts in the field. What's old is new again.
