For some of us who were born on a year of the start of the democratic rule; when I listen to such songs It always reminds me of the traumatic stories that my parents still share to this day on how life was difficult in the Apartheid Era. The trauma that they still carry with them is just heartbreaking.

Wow, music is such a universal language so much that even though it's obvious you don't understand the language, (2:06 onwards) the way your facial expressions were scrunching and emoting it's as though your body was still able to understand, feel & react to the pain in the lyrics through the notes and harmonies of the sad song of mourning. It’s a very beautiful song. In a nutshell his singing about the killing of his brother “Sipho”. “Mtakamama” meaning my mother’s child. Then he proceeds to cry for his brother and continues to sing they’ve killed his brother his mother’s child. In my view it’s inspired by events that took place in South Africa during the apartheid era where black kids were brutally killed by the police in instances such as the 16 June 1976 killings of school kids by the apartheid police. The crying singing style I also believe it to have been pioneered by the late Mariam Makeba who was a prominent singer during that era in South Africa.
The song is quite soulful itself, it's a song about a sibling mourning a death of a young soul who was gunned down, lyrics are in Xhosa/Zulu.... Translation of lyrics is... BAMBULELE (they killed him) SIPHO (a Xhosa and Zulu name which means Gift) MNTAKA MAMA (my mother's child).. Let the sister cry because that bass is out of this world and vocals are very touching as well, and that's soulful.
