Hustler Raptor SD 54"300 Hour Review/Update

- Great mower I highly recommend it to anybody that needs a good middle of the road mower!!!
Issues over 300 hour period.
1.deck belt tension spring snapped@50hours
2.Minor leak on brake shaft seal left hydro@110hours
3.Anti scalp wheel brackets bending @250hours
4.Castor cross member developed two small stress cracks non structural IMO @257hours
5.Hydro brace cracked @275 hours,hustler has an upgrade kit for this issue.
Update 2022 this mower now has over 700 hours and still cuts a 4 acre farm every week.
Hustlers are some fine mowers! I just bought a new 2021 Fastrak 48 with the 22 hp Kawasaki FT691V. Love it!
Yes sir.The SD and SDX is all i have used since 2016.
Had some minor issues but never left me stranded.

Man you were a great help with learning how to change the hydro fluid. Dealer wanted $125 so I got the filters and oil myself. Raptor sd 48 106hrs. Belt popped off twice in the same week around 80hrs off the tension pully and shredded it just a little but other then that no issues.

I need to change my spark plugs to, sitting at 419 hours lol I talked to a few guys that run real big lawn company's and asked them when they get the valves adjusted on the kawi's and they all said at around 1500 hours. But to be on the safe side I think I am going to do it at around 800 lol
I'm at 500 hours never noticed those cracks on the frame till u pointed them out
Yeah,well they started around 225 hours is my guess,I have 460 hours now and they are the same so not too worried about them,worse comes to worse i can just weld a small square steel tab over them.

let me tell ya hustler is great with there warrantty ,,over nighted me bolts had them next day ...hey new umps after 100 hours aint cheap

Where do you buy the high lift blades that you use on the sd54 ? And what's the price on them ? I have got the sd54 and the blades dull fast and the deck clogs up with the original blades it has on it . I'm going to cut that metal brace out at discharge side to see if that helps but mud and grass is sticking to the top and sides on the inside of the deck like a 1inch to 2inch thick in corners even .

Just ordered this machine for my acre lot. Wanted a heavier ZTR as my yard is bumpy and has a slope (11- 14 degrees). A few questions. How fast does it mow, does it cut well at close to full speed? How is it on slopes?
It cuts well just make sure to use xht blades they are high lift.mine cuts about 7mph and as long as blades are sharp it will cut nice at full speed.
Slopes not so good I had to groove tires check out my other videos
@@577buttfan Thanks. I will check out your other videos. I've seen a few, they are some of the best youtube has on the SD. The one with drone footage is sweet. Looks like you are going about wide open on that property. How many hours is yours up to now?

Hey have you ever had the trans mounts crack or break not the cross member but the other ones I've got a 2018 which has broken two front brackets and cracked one of the rears I go pretty easy on the mower but I do mow around some drains that kind a lift a caster wheel here and there I'd be interested to know how yours has held up dealer says he's only ever seen contractors break these and I'm not a contractor cheers
Yeah I broke one in the front harbor freight welder took care of it in 5 minutes.Best way too keep em from breaking is tighten them up after every 25 hours or so.

@@markzonneveld26 Well the idler spring on the deck breaks other than that and the things I mentioned in my videos no.. it's a great mower!!
My fastrak 54 has deck paint chipping in the exact same place.
Yeah,I found some JD paint in a can that's pretty close,I just touch it up once in a while 😎👍
looks like a nice machine for a residential. dont like that front beam cracking though..
I just buzzed them up with a couple beads and they are good as new,Ill keep an eye on them for sure bro :)

Just don't wash it! I washed mine after every use, started it and engaged the blades for a couple of minutes and still the bearings went out after 130 hrs! It is my fault because I washed it they said and it is out of warranty!
I pressure wash mine 3 times a year,just stay away from the spindles,hydros and deck idlers,the parts are cheap enough so its not really a big deal.I do rinse my hydros off but very lightly,Im over 500 hours now with all same bearings.
your hydro system failing and drive system failing only things that have gone wrong in 300 hours ...LOLOLOL..god i love you ..:)))
The hydro system didn't really fail the machine was still operating 100% normal,just a small drip,the broken hydro mount was a real problem,but if you know anything about the old SD it happens too all of them :)
If your proficient with a wire welder your back mowing in 1 hour again :)
Enjoying The Sun 577-Jersey Customs yea something you dont want to be doing on a expensive machine thats only a few months old ...but hey they took care of it ,thats the important thing ..yea i dealt straight with hustler ,but when had issues in past with deck they took care of it .
I hope Hustler gets their stuff together for the future,i really enjoy the mower and would buy another in a heart beat especially with the kawi!

Haha,Mine has 550 hours on it now so no,just like to clean it up a few times a year,its definitely alot more beat up then this video which was 250 hours ago .
