Thank you for this… the hood on my 2001 Boxster has been requiring more force than I think it should to close. I’m guessing the latch mechanism needs to be adjusted but have been procrastinating on it as I thought it might be a big PIA, now I know exactly what to do.
I had this problem in my 2001 - hard to latch and release (although it would work eventually). Turned out to be that the latch was just misaligned, like yours.
My '04 986 s just did the same thing... Soon as I get back home, I'll be adjusting mine. Thanks for the video, as usual, it's a great DIY vid. :) What sux is now I've gotta drive home using backroads, stay off the interstates, I just don't want to chance my hood flying up at 75mph.. I'll feel a lot safer at a top speed of 35mph.
Thanks, very helpful. My 01 mechanism is not releasing the hood each time. I hear it working but it ain’t popping up. Needs some lubrication and adjusting. Taking the latch off the frunk was a great idea. Next time I get it open, that’s what I’m doing! 😂
Cool, I didn't know you could raise the latch. I had the same issue on my 997 and placed a flat pad of plumbers rubber (~1/8" thick) between the hood and the latch plate that you removed. Same result...you raised the latch, I lowered the latch plate (latch strike???).
I'm thinking years of closing the hood has pushed the latch mechanism down slightly and what you did was raise it back up to the day it left the factory!
@@HelpMeDIY I've done quite a bit of searching and can't seem to find a diagram that specifies which is for the front trunk, I find tons of diagrams, just not ones that tell me which one is for the frunk of an '04 s
@@HelpMeDIY Got it fixed. Was exactly the same issue. But I followed your lead and tested the latch first, to be sure what the issue was. All I needed was a 10mm socket and a dime. :) Thanks :)
I have problem as my cant open, is just jammed and unfortunately i have flat tyre, special key is in the front trunk alog with spare wheel, any sugestions ?
+Grzegorz that is unfortunate. First suggestion, after you get it fixed, I’d throw away all those keyed wheel bolts and replace them with regular ones. They are a pain!
@HelpMeDIY thank you I managed to open, in UK my emergency release was on passenger side - left. However, this didn't help, what helped was one person was pulling the release and I lifted jammed hood gently with flat screwdriver. No damage caused, mission accomplished Thank you for the video tip !
Instructions unclear. I followed this guide and have locked myself in the frunk, and am writing this from my phone but oxygen and battery are low. Send help.
Is white lithium grease on the mechanism….or silicone WD-40 still something to use to lube the mechanism. It just looks like it is sluggish after initial release.
My 2006 cayman s frunk has been super hard to close since the day I test drove it. Good timing on this video! Thanks.
+Dean Parker great! I bet this will fix it! 😎🍻
I'm so glad to see you posted this, I just started having this issue on my 04 boxster yesterday!

+Jack Beckman I figured if was probably pretty common! 🍻
Amazing guide. I think this is the issue with my 996 TTS, as no matter how hard i push, the frunk won't lock. I'll give it a go in the morning!

Crisp and concise as always!!

Useful … do you have a separate channel for 2003 Boxster ? I have one too
+Michael Snelling thanks. Separate RUclips channel? Nope, this is the one! Ton of Boxster content right here
Thank you

is there a fuse or relay that someone might check first, before pulling out the 10mm ratchet??
+@gumpster66 well there is a fuse for everything electrical

@@HelpMeDIY I would imagine that, over time, closing the trunk, putting downward pressure, is the cause. But now I know what to do. :)

@@bobfognozzle quite possibly, but I haven’t researched that
