I love the fact that people like yourself, or in the financial means, can purchase, preserve, maintain, display, and talk about the history of these historic firearms.
I find the airflow design of the “radiator” interesting. Open at the rear with the barrel set back from the front of the shroud. Every shot pulls or draws air forward cooling the gun. Brilliant.
To see the airplane mounted Lewis Gun (no cooling jacket) in action, watch the very entertaining 1983 movie "High Road to China" with Tom Selleck, Bess Armstrong, Jack Weston, and Wilford Brimley.
About 30 years ago, when I lived a bit south of Utica NY I had the opportunity to fire one of these that was made by the defunct Savage Arms factory there. Fired it from the shoulder and not much recoil. Not sure if the old guy owned it legally and didn't ask. LOL
These were highly prized by German flyers during the First World War. If a Lewis fell into enemy hands, it almost always made it back to the fight on board a German aircraft. Check out Harry Woodman's book "Lewis Guns Windsock Mini Datafile 3". It gives a great history of this weapon from its use in air combat.
My only experience with the Lewis gun was watching the guy next to me on the firing line shoot his single-shot. I don't know what was wrong with it and, apparently, neither did he.
That needs to be updated with a freon or antifreeze cooled barrel. That would definitely keep the barrel down. 30-06 in that rifle seems awesome. If only that redesign it with a magazine that was built for 357 magnum and any other rimfire cartridges.
I want one to mount on my Accord for my daily commute through Fair Park in Dallas.
Man 100rd of full auto 30/06 would be pretty damn sweet
7.62 x 54 would be better for someone who wants to shoot it though. (30.06 for historical reasons though).
@@john-paulsilke893 I'm old enough to remember surplus .30-06 at $2.00 a box at gun shows. Still have some. LOL
Dang, now that's a sweet gun.
That should be the new "come and take it" logo! Not replacing the Gonzales battle flag, but maybe the F tyranny flag.
One of my favorite guns. it just happens to have my last name!
Great historical firearm

And the Sand Pebbles had a pair of Lewis MGs mounted on the gunboat's bridge.
Definitely a cool gun👍👍
I love the grinning and twinkle in both of your eyes when you guys talk about these historical, mechanical, wondrous works of art. 👍
👍 nice cool old gun.
Love you guys keep it up

Feature in movie "Sand Pebbles, "....
I thought the primary capacity was 47 rounds, with the 97 being for aircraft (and much rarer).
That's exactly right. The magazine on this gun is the 47 round version. The 97 round one is instantly recognizable, since it's twice as tall.

🙂👍☕
Guys, invest in a second microphone.
Looks to me they are both wearing lapel mics.
