Superb video of this very interesting Gardner engine at The Anson Museum. The Kromhout design rolling little end bearing arrangement is unusual, but clearly works well, and allowed a single gudgeon pin to be rotated 3 times in the piston to run on 3 new wearing surfaces to prolong engine life.
5:00 Ahhh, an external combustion engine ;) I bet if they had one of those burners heating the air drawn into the engine, it'd start and run without preheating the combustion chambers!
Those Victorian English engineers were so clever ! Better than German stuff but it's a pity we let our socks down in the 20th century .... maybe one day we could rule the waves again ???
@@dieselengines1760 I've got a 50+ year old Gardner 6LW in my boat that's never been taken apart, they built them from the 30's well into the 80's until they were killed off by emission legislation, nationality doesn't have much to do with how how good a machine is, some are just great designs whoever built them.
What a waste of time. nine minutes and 30 seconds of getting it ready and 30 seconds of run time? I still gave it a thumbs up but I wish it had more tun time? Sorry, I must be getting old?
Magnificent engine, great application of hot bulb engine technology.

When he picked the oil can up I thought "what it really needs is a hot cup of tea"!

Assim vejo como os motores evoluíram.
I LOVE GARDNERS! I had a 6LW In my old Scammell! 😮 WHY IS HE SETTING THIS ON FIRE? 🤷🏻♂️
They have glow plugs in the top of the heads 🇺🇸👍
