You might become an expert witness for Aptera, in the patent lawsuit against them. Taking it back to Morelli, is important, as this might already be considered part of the public domain. MIT design proves it is not new. As an ambassador maybe you can offer to be an expert witness for free, as a donation. Above my pay grade, however I think I understand it.

I like your idea, I think the MIT car also proves that is is a functional design because it is based a principal of aerodynamics. There are also other solar racers that used the Morelli body. I will be making a video about the history of Zaptera/Jonway shortly. Thank you for watching!

@@ApteraAccessories The patent in the zaptera suit, is completely unrelated to the function. Its a design patent ( completely unrelated to function). A design patent covers the 'appearance' or 'shape' of an object.
Zaptera is going to argue that aptera has copied their 'shape', thats all its about, function has no part in the law suit, it wont even be brought up as its irrelevant. Apatera did a get a design patent also, but its only for the rear housing that covers the rear wheel. If you look at that design patent you can see the dotted outline of the zaptera shape, with a filled in rear cowing which is what they wanted to patent. Its possible the difference in shape of the rear cowling will be enough to null and void zaptera patent. But its up to the judge or jury of the appearance is similar enough to be deemed a copy..........I think it will be deemed different as the cowling is different.
In fact the reason that aptera got the rear cowling design patent might be to stop anyone from taking them to court........who knows how they think.

why did morelli not patent his shape?

This is a good question, I do not have the answer too. Maybe because he saw it as a fundamental form or shape like a teardrop? That too see the same aerodynamic results close to the ground plane you would need to have the same profile. Thank you for Watching!

@@ApteraAccessories I did a little search for morelli patent, there is one for a motorbike cowling, but he was working for a university or technical institute so it might be a patent was in their name. It seems very odd to do all that research and not patent it. It might not have been patentable, given that all vehicles have a shape and a given wind resistance, its not a novel idea, it is a way to minimise wind resistance, but it has to be a novel idea if you get my meaning.

The wind tunnel wasn't a test, it was a photo opportunity they were only there for a very short time period, so your information there is a bit wrong. Yes there was all sorts of information saying they were validating the cd, but as with many things with aptera things are not always what they seem. There was no validation data done.........

The wind tunnel was full sized static correlation test on the shape of the body. For a full aerodynamic test you would need the wheels to be rolling at speed to account for their impact. I don't believe the Pininfarina wind tunnel was set up to have a dynamic test on a 3-wheeled car.

@@ApteraAccessories Thus the Kim Java number 0.15 might be an extrapolated estimate.

@@ApteraAccessories can you give some more details about what you mean by " full sized static correlation test" ? Does that produce a cd value?

Morelli published a research paper on his work, why not go straight to the source?
Its not hard to find it, problem is you have to pay to download the article, there might be a free source somewhere but I haven't found it.
Better to go straight to his paper, your just reading references to it.
