John is right... best advice anyone can give is to come visit, go home, and rethink (rinse, dry, repeat). 19 years living in this part of the world, and I still learn things.
Experience first then make a decision.
Very informative interview, big cultural shock going to another country especially Asia, I felt for John with the jet lag, That is a terrible feeling, I had it many times traveling from LA to London when I was in the Air Force, was exhausted but could not sleep for two days when I got there, internal body clock completely haywire.
Lots of things to consider before making the move. Hopefully he will go back, those Michigan winters are brutal.
Good that he went looking around the island, even going to see Dug out Doug's landing site. I dont care for him at all. The only order that guy ever obeyed was the one to leave his command and go to Australia.
My dad was a 20 year old Marine and was assigned to be a sentry in the head quarters tunnel on Corregidor guarding that guy until he fled to Australia, He was captured by the Japanese and was a POW in Japan until the end of the War. He never had a good thing to say about him.
Sorry about that rant. Anyway that was very nice of you to invite your friend over to take a look around. hopefully he will go back. He knows what to expect now. Would be nice to have a old friend to hang around with.

Having watched a few videos now- I’d like to suggest tweaking your questioning technique. You tend to ask leading questions as if you’re rehearsing your interviewee to say what your narrative agenda is. It’s far better to ask open questions and let your interviewee speak their truth otherwise you sound a little manipulative.

First video-and John has a tendency to wander-no agenda/narrative at all-just trying to get him to answer the questions.

@@maudave yes I get that but the wandering is fine as it’s genuine so deal with it through editing not leading/coaching. It’s a style thing that draws in a listener/viewer or not. You did the same on other videos hence my feedback. I used to train presenters and public speakers.

@@maudave print out a photo of a pretend audience to speak to it’s weird that you can trick your brain like this…. it might help to make it feel more natural to you. YT is all about making a personal connection to people- who are watching on their couch etc so it shouldn’t be a lecture or interrogation of guests as it makes the viewer uncomfortable and click away.
