Live at the Gaumont Palace, Paris december 1970... The drummer is Aynsley Dunbar, the two singers Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan ;Flo & Eddie was in The Turtles before!! That was a great solo by Frank and we see Jean Luc Ponty on the violin,Jeff Simmons on bass,Ian Underwood and George Duke on keyboards ...Great live version!! The original is on the first album, Freak out 1966
Hi Petit. This explains why I saw a quick glimpse of Ponty with the Flo & Eddie band in the film ZAPPA. I couldn't find his name listed with the lineups of either the '70 or '71 tour. Special guest for this one Paris gig. Arf arf, you French Poodle!
The Flo and Eddie era, I saw them in Vamncouver at the Agrpdome the day after the Horse Show at the PNE. I rmember it for several reasons. The incredible musicianship. The floor was a sea of mud from the Horse Show. The opening act was Crazy Horse without Neil Young, And it was my last ever LSD experience. . JUst too weird, too disturbing, just plain too heavy..One of those times you thought you got ripped off when half a blotter was not enough, and took the other (Uh-Oh!) They did Brain Police and The Mud Shark back to back. Four syllable Wooooow!
I agree 100% with you about Franks guitar skills. For my money he’s the best. He can improvise and put together the sweetest licks I’ve ever heard. It’s like his little riffs are each an individual thought but at the same time he is stringing them together into something amazing.
Who said Zappa can't play guitar??? Damn! The only reason I could imagine someone thinking that might be because they think he is this over tbe top character, satirist eccentric whatever. But what THOSE stupid people don't realize is that all comedy and buffoonery aside, Frank is one of the greatest innovative composers of the twentieth century! He is NOT f#cking around, and when he pulls out that SG and digs in to that fretboard he is NOT f#ckin around!
Thanks. Never saw this one before. The Flo and Eddie band wasn't my favorite but this is a good rendition. A complete remake of a song from his 1st album. You've done a lot of Zappa but believe it or not there's still great stuff that (to my knowledge) you haven't touched. Try a side from Uncle Meat, We're Only in it for the Money, Lumpy Gravy; some of 200 Motels is good. You may have done the title track from Joe's Garage but the rest of the album is good. As a long time Zappa fan, I appreciate your efforts.
When Jimi Hendrix came to england, he had a choice of 2 drummers. They had to toss a coin because both drummers were great, so Mitch Mitchell got the job. The guy here Aynsley Dunbar was the guy that lossed the coin toss. This band is great and allot of Zappa fans dislike this line-up, but (for me) when this group cooks, they are just as good as any of Zappa's groups. Flo and Eddy had great voices, just whats needed for classic Rock.
Interesting to hear how different the arrangement of this song is from the original version from the Freak Out album. Completely different song. Really, only the lyrics are the same.

From the crazy days with Flo & Eddie, whats not to love!
Zappa Lives!
Wouldn't matter if FZ couldn't play a note!
What he put on paper will keep intelligent listeners marveling for the next 100yrs.
(Assuming the best?)
Unusual line , this mothers didnt play many shows Simmons.
This is great performance
Frank used Flo and Eddie as another instrument not just vocalist
Wow yeah 😊 Zappa the genius of improvisation , a music genius , amazing very good 🎸thank you Rory , good evening 👍🥪☕🍵
That was insanely good!
The Phlorescent Leech & Eddie !
Wow! George Duke, Flo & Eddie, Jean-Luc Ponte, Vinnie Coaluta(?)
I should have read the comments before I commented. LOL
Franks using an ES 335 here. The SG must’ve been getting a tuneup 😅😅.
Black screen for a good part of the solo, and at the end for the credits when Frank asks the audience to leave the room quietly...
❤ thanks ❤
That's a rare one 👍

How is it you've done so much Zappa, but haven't done anything off Joe's Garage?
He did Keep it greasy and Lucille.
