      drilling into the shaft is completely unnecessary. It already has a flat side so a pin is completely redundant. JB weld in the knurls and let it set is all you need.
      All that drilling does is increase the chance of mucking up the part and destroying the shaft beyond repair.

    Was just looking at buying both actuators brand new until I saw this. This is doable ! Appreciate the video !

    Hello Y.E.V.S BUILDS,
    Loved your video!
    Next time and for viewers, recommend performing all work on the output shaft before assembly. You removed the shaft to file the "peen mushroom" to install the gear. Nice cross drill, but bond gear while it is out and on the bench, not in a confined area. Then just reassemble to the throttle actuator housing.
    NOTE: To do requires removing arm that attaches to the throttle body link, but only held in place by a nut (check vid ~9:05 min). Shaft can be lightly tapped with the gear on. vs. breaking the gear and pulling it from the throttle bottom.

    Would feel a little uncomfortable with the pin connection tbh. Butt I guess no issues yet?
    Other than that nice work!

    Nicely done
    Is throttle body the same for S65?

      That I'm not sure about honestly. You can always compare part numbers

    At what mileage do the throttle actuators fail mostly? My m5 got only 67,000 miles so should I worry about them yet?

    • @YEVSBUILDS
      @YEVSBUILDS  Год назад

      I mean that's really low miles. From what I know, they tend to fail near 100k but if I were you, id buy the parts as soon as possible just have em ready at that point if you're trying to keep the car for a while

    The problem is not only the gears !! It’s and the board!!

    • @YEVSBUILDS
      @YEVSBUILDS  2 года назад +3

      Yeah but since I've never seen this engine run before, I figured I'd start here with these

      @@YEVSBUILDS yes but you did the half job if fails ! That will fail for sure you need to take them out again !!

      The gears DO fail! I have several examples. They get worn and pointed on the output shaft gear causing slop the computer can recognize.
      NOTE: From motor, through intermediate gear, and final gear on shaft, there is a great reduction at the motor (motor spins more than ten revs compared to output shaft). and slop can be detected by the throttle positions sensors.
      Check M5board for details.

      Yes, but if someone wants to do gears before they fail then that will also extend the circuit board life, the reason the circuit board fails is because of the extra bs it has to do when the gears start acting up, if you catch it early you might be able to save alot of money with only doing the gears.

  • @mista5796

    Obviously the plastic gears get worn over time… but the main reason for the actuators failing is due to the circuit boards failing.
    This throws the engine codes 2b15/2b16 and cause the car to go into limp mode

    New actuators cost $800. This isn't worth it.
