Nancy, I'm 60 and learned of Lex on Joe Rogan. Since I do my audio learning and entertainment amidst sleep (which is only 6 hours typically), I now listen to more of Lex's because they are better for filling the time I'm awake or between. DMT is the new frontier in mental health and is psychedelics. I had the good fortune 40 years ago to have a lot of influencers that changed my life. The alcoholic in the dorm the first days of university lead to fun and games and a lifestyle I'd not have had. Since I then uses alcohol my boyfriend, who was into pot (and became a computer scientist and was very successful) talked me into joining him with that and then one thing lead to another as his dealer guy had things to peddle. Which eventually lead to things I didn't like the risks of but we both had profound time travel predictive dreams after psilocybin mushrooms. @Lex Fridman - Your answer to how to hold onto hope actually made me cry. When I think deeply about the current social climate and my experiences within it cuts me on such a visceral level. I wrestle with how to ignore "the noise" without becoming complacent in it. I've been derided for trying to promote peace through nuance and understanding - through really taking to heart what it means to understand vs. condone. When I hear you talk about this it makes me feel so much less alone in that pursuit. It makes the times people walked out on me for clinging to my integrity a little less of a stab to the heart. On another note: You're really hard on yourself about being a poor speaker, Lex. There's always room for improvement, but you are so much better than you give yourself credit for. I struggle with being too self-deprecating at times. It feels like treading at the edges of whirlpool... it's so easy to get sucked in (I can't even imagine how difficult it is having a platform like you on top of it). Regardless of that voice in the back of your mind I hope you're able to seize quiet moments to reflect, congratulate yourself in your progress, and always keep your head above the water when things get wavy.

Lex, You’re doing some great interviews on a huge array of subjects. I find the ones involving consciousness most intriguing. Any chance you will interview Robert Lanza of the biocentric view? Thanks
I agree with you, Lex, that happiness is a good indication of progress in the right direction for a person. For me, happiness can't be achieved by resting and doing nothing, rather by doing what I find meaningful and what corresponds to my values. That's the only way for me to get this feeling. Hey Lex, can you please try to get robert bigelow on for an interview?! Would b a fascinating conversation between you and him. Not only for his work in space, but also his efforts to answer the 3 greatest human questions; “are we alone in the universe”, “what is consciousness and “what happens when we die.”
Heroin addiction in my past was the (hellish and abysmal) catalyst to my awakening to the true isolated/ness of the human condition. I learned to appreciate and love and even live on a profound level after the end of that chapter. Prior to that very long and brutal struggle, I would say I was far more superficial and deeply lacking in self awareness. I learned to reignite my curiosity as my main motivating force and indulge my interests and passions like I never would have before. And also learned to become adult. In the sense of accepting the daily grind and less fun aspects of life, but with an appreciation for that as well. The biggest tools I used to solve my addiction problem and change myself were reading philosophy, particularly Nietzsche, Sartre and Camus. I’m not as into Sartre any longer but at the time it helped, and just as Lex, computer programming became my obsession. That, and making music with technology. I’d played in hardcore Bands since my early teens, so this was a natural progression, but requires far more discipline and had far more possibilities. *no one asked me to answer this but I got inspired. I apologize. Also if anyone is struggling with opioid dependence and wants to talk, just reply and we can figure it out.

It is Super hard for me to see many better hero’s for today society. Lex is that Hero. “His”, long dialogue style is point probing, direct and with perfect human questions. This is important. Lex, please continue in a form for ever and everyone into the foreseeable distance. Even beyond your worth. Beyond the times when the mind can speak and the mouth is seen as but pointless. It is in this time your “Lex’s” (work) is/will be regarded as the so important work of the time of late mankind. Hind sight will be shown by future transitions & events. Keep the questions simple. “Our”current society averaged, is simply, simple. Blunt simple questions work well with us and apply well to the bulk of the masses. I am sure this is a simple concept. Thank you, Lex.
"...not to let my curiosity run (what should I say) too far ahead of me, where my preparation doesn't meet the level of curiosity I exhibit." Thank you for teaching me something so incredibly valuable, Lex.
Hi Lex, Audrey Tang would be a fantastic guest although maybe hard to get. She is the digital minister of Taiwan so it may have to be a virtual discussion, but it would be so worth it. She is managing to put new ideas of digital democracy and decentralised government into practise. Much more exciting politics than Michael Malice or the Ayn Rand guy you had on. Alternatively Glen Weyl is also exciting.
If politicians had the same mindset as you do, the world would be such a fun place to live in. I hope that your curiosity, knowledge and willingness to do good are contagious and can influence the new generations. And indeed social media has definitely got a massive role to play in spreading your words. It was a pleasure again to listen to you, thank you!

~21:00, allowing yourself to create things, simple things and the joy in it. (paraphrase). been in the "field" > 30 yrs, that was one of the most spot on descriptions i've heard, ty.
Nice one Lex 🤗🥰 thank you for being so open.

Thank you, Lex.
an interview with a person advanced in the depression topic (including computational models of it) would be great!
@@user-hc9nc4ll5q this is lovely, but so suspicious
Lex, you're a legend!
Lex when talking to the aliens: “so what is the powerhouse of the cell?”

What a fantastic answer at 45:32, Lex!
"...not to let my curiosity run (what should I say) too far ahead of me, where my preparation doesn't meet the level of curiosity I exhibit."
Thank you for teaching me something so incredibly valuable, Lex.
Question: why aren’t you buying GameStop rn?
@@sinon7463 Makes me fucking sick dude, god bless those people that bought at

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
Dude chocolate & salt is amazing! You must try.
Paul Saladino would be a nice guest on your podcast I feel. He really gets the science behind certain diets. Love from Belgium :)
You're the best on so many levels... always appreciate the content you share.

When the mouth is pointless for speech. This is “Lex’s” time.
We will be there.

Don't know if you actually read comments but I have nothing massive respect and appreciation for you and your podcast. They are informative, digestible to another scientist at least, and entertaining. Well done, I look forward to following you and your journey as you continue to improve as a communicator.
